For what purpose? Hmmm lets think. We have a list at the moment in which a lot of our young brigade will be peaking at the same time, and pushing for a premiership. We have GC draft concessions in the next few years, and we have Jamar who is a decent enough ruckman but not untouchable. Then we have Port who's ruck stocks are in dire straits. Not saying Jamar is worth pick 8, but a package could do the trick. For what purpose?! That question is as ignorant as it comes. We are building for the future and another top 10 draft pick in this particular draft would be invaluable.

Boak is a very good midfielder, what that deal does is give us another quality mid and then a chance to get at a good tall with Pick 8. We may get Trengove or Morabito and they may be better then Boak but will when you combine Boak with a good key forward you need to consider.

This is the only way we get pick 8 if we want it.

Boak has proven himself at AFL level and performs on a consistant basis. At this point in time Trengove and Morabito are only worth what you imagen them to be.

Ok, so for the purpose of blindly acquiring extra draft picks at the expense of a required player whom is our best option in a position that is currently a weakness of this club.

That you think alone is not worth that pick, so we'd have to include something else as well.

For a pick that you have no clear idea of what you want to do with it.

This isn't, for example, trading Travis Johnstone whilst he still has some good value, but we know he has plateaued and will be of no use to us during a rebuild.

This is purely an attempt at stockpiling draft picks for the sake of having another draft pick so you can drool over the choices.

You don't suggest acquiring for the specific reason of taking, for example Talia, as he won't last past then.

You emplore BP and Bailey to 'get it done' implying that pick 8 is something we need to have.

I thought it would be obvious to those taking part in the Tall v Mid debate regarding pick two. If we have another top 10 pick in a midfielders draft, it would leave the door open for us to take arguably the best tall in the draft at pick number 2 and grab a quality midfielder at 8. I am not blindly suggesting we "get it done" for the sake of drooling over the prospects...that is ludicrous. I genuinely think that PJ and Martin/Meesen could handle the brunt of the ruck duties and we would be fine. It is not a swipe at Jamar nor an oversight of the general consensus that our ruck division is a glaring weakness. It is just an outcry to may hay while the sun shines, or get the best young talent into the club in the last uncompromised draft. The cost in my opinion would be Jamar + Pick 18. Jamar is good when he is on the park. but in my opinion that isn't often enough and age isn't on his side either. You have to keep an eye on the future E25. If GC weren't entering the league and killing the draft then I would not feel the need to say "get it done", in fact I would probably laugh at the suggestion too. We need to be ruthless in our rebuild.

You want to give up our pick 2 for a player that is behind K.Cornes, S.Burgoyne and will get over taken by H.Hartlett in the near future in Port Adelaides midfield pecking order. It's been mentioned on this thread and other threads:

Pick 2 in exchange for pick 8 and T.Boak. They get access to picking Trengove, Morabito or whoever. Melbourne gets pick 8 - perhaps access to a Butcher/Cunnington/Martin/Talia and Boak (former No.5 pick) as a mid.

An option, although the club must weigh up the Trengove/Morabito (or whoever for arguments sake) vs Boak/pick 8.

It's all speculative but interesting. I'd stick with pick 2 as a keep for the draft.

I think I'd actually do that trade.

It really depends on how BP rates that second tier of players compared to the first couple and I'm in no position myself to have any real idea.

For picks 1 & 2 Scully Boak and Talia/Cunnington/Martin/Rohan/Lucas could be a very good return

Fair to say we won't see Jamar kick another bag of 5 any time soon.

Jamar has taken 6 years to come good? He was good in 2006 and got injured when we needed him most in the SF against Fremantle. That is the story of his career, injured when we need him. He's played 31 games in 3 seasons, and 7 in 2009. I'm not willing to back him to remain injury free (especially at 27 next year) for an entire season so we are better off using him to get pick 8 which could deliver us a Ben Cunnington or Dustin Martin.
