And who would they be?

Me?

While it is great for everyone on here to have their opinion on everything, I take the recruiting of players posts very lightly.

I think most would agree that that the majority know very little about the potential candidates and act off headlines or the posts of the most vocal.

I attended the championship at Etihad this year and last and readily admit that gives me very little to base an opinion on. I don't see the weekly games or speak to the boys.

This is all fun guessing who we will take in the draft and trade, but when it is all said and done I have faith in the guys charged with the task of building the list. Our list by the way is in the best condition I can recall in the last 40 years. There is so much talent with more to be added that I can see years of success coming our way.

Thankfully, our future off the field is looking healthy as well.

Checking the TAC website it appears Butch didn't get any goals, I could've sworn he did but maybe I was confusing him with another dude who has a very similar hairstyle and general appearance.

He's not as bad as some people have made out on these forums without seeing him in the flesh.

Not having a go at you, but more a generalization. You confused a possible Number 2 pick with someone else. He did nothing in the game. You then say he is not as bad as some people on here have made out. Meanwhile many posters are saying he has to be pick number 2.

Oh dear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Touche.

Sigmund Freud would have an absolute birthday analysing some of you blokes.

Just for the record, Redleg and I are definitely not the same person although he does enjoy the privilege of living four doors away in the same street. I believe he and Rhino are in some mutual appreciation society because Rhino was once known as "Redleg" on another site.

Back on subject, I would be astonished if Butcher was drafted with Melbourne's pick 2. Selection 18 maybe.

I suspect however, that a club like Richmond might be eager to get him.

Jon Ralph said in the HS recently that they'd be targeting a mid. Morabito ?

Of course he may be wrong and there may have been an assumption that we'd take Butcher.

I can see Butcher in purple.

Perhaps you missed this part of my post then? I see you edited it out when using it as a basis for your comments:

'However there's no mistaking him up close, and the lad can certainly take a strong mark. He's not as bad as some people have made out on these forums without seeing him in the flesh. Regardless I still sit in the 2 mids camp.'

I only mistook him for kicking some goals in the distance due to a similar appearance to another player in the Power, I recognised him up close however, which is when I was commenting on his marking ability.

WTF????

6 months ago, it would have been unanimous on this forum to take Butcher at #2.

And all of a sudden he's in the same league as SCHULZ??? Low.

This is an outstanding, top 5 talent we're talking about, not some mid 20 pick at best who we're stupidly considering at #2.

Very well said.

People on this forum never cease to amaze me, constantly trying to put someone down!

He is a great talent, but no, he wont be no.2 pick, however, he is NOT Jay Schulz, he is a talent with alot of raw potential that just needs some good coaching and learning on the job at senior level.

Why would you be astonished if we took him at 2 but not suprised if Richmond took him 1 pick later? Is there that much difference between their need for talls?

Now, how come I get shouted down and branded an idiot when I say this?

Ok, besides the numerous stupid posts I make and the fact that your opinion is actually respected on this forum..?

Ah, forget it... :D

They are Richmond remember.

And Butcher is just not as good as his reputation would suggest.

Undoubtedly all the clubs will rate individual players differently and it may just transpire with the clubs that do rate Butcher having other players available at their pick that they rate higher.

Personally, I think he is an enticing prospect, but it is far too much of a roll of the dice, especially at such a high pick.

Rhinos list is a pretty good summary methinks. not saying there aren't a few others whose opinions i rate, but i wouldn't be rubbishing what those posters had to say, and the only reason for that is they've done it right for a lot of years around here...

It's not so much about their needs but more about the perception at Tigerland about what's the best available for the club. My impression of the way Richmond usually goes about doing things is that they have been trying to offset some past drafting miscalculations by coming up with some flakey recruiting decisions. They're still living with the fact that they were trumped by Hawthorn in the Roughead/Franklin draft, have made some other aweful blunders (e.g Oakley-Nicholls) and the Cousins decision also divided the club.

I think Melbourne's first and second selections are going to be Scully and Trengove. This will leave the Tigers with either Morabito, Butcher or one of list of many other midsize types such as Martin, Cunnington, Lucas or Rohan. I suspect they won't take the third best mid, they don't have the cohunas to take the risk with WA's Morabito so they'll go for the "tall" in Butcher. On what I've seen of Butcher I wouldn't invest pick 2 on him but the Tigers might well use pick 3.

Then again I could be completely wrong.

An element to this whole Butcher yes/no debate that may have eluded some is the type of player Melbourne seems to have been going after recently and the types its probably looking at now. These players all tend to have one thing in common and this to me has been empahasised in Bailey's recent experimentations...Versatility. We seem to be developing a team that doesnt work around the typical dynamics of even recent times but a much more fluid model that enables the FD ( game day ) to remould in the image of what suits the days play best. To be able to do this soe players need to be able to play front and back, some will be recast form KPPs to flanks and wings.. mids revolving through HF and Hb lines even popping up in pockets etc. And to me thjis is why MFC WONT pick Butcher.. hes a goal square kid !! His game is predomiinantly built around the abiltu to kick goals.. the greater abundance of his kicks are for scores. He seems to lack that other side of his game. Players like Jurrah , Watts, Bate..even dare I say it Miller can work the ball further up the ground and be imposing whilst linking. I dont beleive this is in Butchers kit. Probably too much of a one trick pony here.

I have an inkling Hannibal might be on to something and we'll see Jack in purple..lucky him huh !!

I think Richmond are in completely different hands now - Gale, Hardwick and Cameron - a pretty good team and they wont be looking back, just forward.

Of those three maybe Hardwick !!

Gale has very quickly proven hes not quite as clever as he thinks...and Im glad CAC is at Richmond now as his replacements here have proved far more insightful and skillful than he.

Its going to take years to change..for Richmond as I think Tigers are just behind Zebras ...stripewise !!

How did Gale prove that? (I mean, besides choosing the job of Richmond CEO)

And I don't think we can really judge CAC compared to his replacements for a few more years yet.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
