Ben McKinley, Mark Seaby and Brent Reilly

I think that we need all three of them. Becasue

Ben McKinley = he is a good forward target to kick to and with Robbo gone he would be a good fit and would help out Jack Watts next year.

Mark Seaby = We need a good tap ruckman that is able to move around the ground well and is able to take a good mark in the forward line. He would be a good fit.

Brent Reilly = he is a good and quick midfielder that is able to moving around the ground well. We need a quick midfielder with slow player like McLean and Jones.

What do people think?

If the price were good enough it would be worth a look, but they'd have to be going damn cheap. I'd say McKinley is the pick of the bunch, so he'd be the one i'd look at. Maybe they'd take Newton for him?

McKinley doesn't really appeal to me tbh and I don't think he is in the mould of forward we need to support Watts.

Seaby is Seaby I suppose, someone will probably pick him up cheap but again I don't think we critically need him compared to what we have - unless PJ is in the firing line and the club doesn't have enough confidence in either Meesen or Spencer.

Reilly would be a great pick up IMO but I don't even want to think about what it would cost draft pick wise. I am assuming he is contracted here or is that not the case?

I think that he is uncontracted next year. But i am not 100% sure

No to Seaby

Would consider the other two but depends really what is needed in return.

McKin is still young and obviously has a lot of potential after kicking quite a few goals last year, this year has not been his best but like i said still young. He is a full forward and nothing else, he is pretty built and could be a power forward bails has been craving like the rock in the square with Jurrah and Wonna running around his feet and Watts, Bate, Sylvia off half forward... sounds good to me.

Bate Watts Sylvia

Wonna Mckin Jurrah

I wouldnt mind that forward line???

Saying all that it makes me wonder why McKin didnt come to victoria last year before signing his extension"???

For where we're at right now, I'd like to use a general rule that if we going to trade for players, they have to be players that the club feels can contribute to our next premiership, say around 2012-15. Sure, Seaby is a premiership player, but he'll be nearing the end of his career in that span and I don't think he'd be much more of a contributor than any of our current thin ruck division. McKinley I don't see as a premiership contributor. Reilly could, but as 1858 pointed out, what would it cost to get him? You're not going to get him without sacrificing a valuable draft pick (a big no-no in our current plight) or a good young player (also pointless).

That's not to say it's pointless talking about this stuff, Todd, but I'm playing it conservative in trade week this year. Nobody's touching our first two picks or young talent, and that's all we have to offer.

i think Reilly would be a great fit for our midfield, realistically what would the crows be asking for him, 2nd rounder?

No to Seaby and Reilly. Seaby too old, not good enough. Reilly, likely to cost more than he is worth, and is also too old at 26. Also

McKinley is an interesting one. He's only 22 years old, around the same age as Newton, Bate and Dunn, he kicked 42 goals last season and is on his way to another 30+ goal season again this year. Has stagnated a bit in form over last season, but it's been pretty well documented his dissatisfaction over there.

If we could get him for cheap, say, 3rd round pick, or even better, for free in the PSD, he is definitely one i'd be looking at. He's young enough, and has been pretty good at scoring goals in a poor side. The only thing that works against him is that he is undersized for a KPP, so despite playing tall, like Robbo has for all these years, he's never likely to be able to take the next step in potency and dangerousness on a consistent basis.

He is definitely an improvement on Miller and Newton though.

Surely we could get one of them to go into the PSD

Surely we could get one of them to go into the PSD

I live in hope that we can achive a better deal than that

Seaby no, but the other two would be good pickups. Not sure what they'd cost us though. Reilly is the big one there. He'd be great to have in the side.

love your work dappa, but why the hell would we want a player like reilly

McKinley yes, the other 2 no. Especially Seaby, definitely a lemon, will probably end up at Richmond or North Melbourne.

Already have McNamara, McLean, McKenzie, McDonald at the club- I'm sure McKinley would fit right in.

Definite yes to McKinley if his attitude is right. Kid can play and could be a top liner, but it all depends on character. I would not be upset to trade a late pick or player for him. He may not go as cheap as some think and will attract some interest.

Absolute no to Seaby. In this day and age, giraffes like him are useless.

Reilly is a good player. If he was available in the PSD I'd be happy to take him.

I thought McKinley signed a contract last year? If he was available, again, only PSD. We must not trade picks this year (unless those picks are pick 70+).

If we had to trade - No to all 3

If we could get them in the PSD. Yes to Rielly no to the other 2.

Agree. Only Rielly would interest me.

No to all 3.

Not worth trading for older players at this stage.

If anything, we should be trading for draft picks, not players.

There will be players who we can trade for later once the kids have developed more.

We need a second ruck option. Meesen and Spencer are still learning - so I'd look at Seaby to come via the PSD.

No to McKinley and I'd be interested in a direct swap of a player for Reilly.

Seaby is a hack = definately no.

McKinley is way too one dimensional. He's 184cms so ke's no key forward, but that's the only role he can play = no

Reilly maybe, but not fussed. If he was the only thing floating around in the PSD you'd think about it.

Ben Mckinley is not a KPP. He is like 182 cms. Why not use Green in the same role? Waste of a spot there.

Seaby. Big fat no.

Reilly isn't a quick midfielder. Not a bad player but not someone who I would chase with any vigor. I definitely wouldn't give up anything for him.

Agree with all that. But if McKinley was in the PSD, he could be a decent pick up.

Actually Ben McKinley plays as a tall by having good hands and a good jump to the ball.

Also Reilly in fact is a quick midfielder as you would have seen last night if you watched it. He is quite quick off the mark.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
