He's always had an awkward style in the way he kicks the ball, this is not going to change. His efficiency by foot has been very good in recent weeks.

Id be more worried about how your man Bartram kicks the ball.

Yes I know he's been good this year, but didn't you notice when he was chased hard out of defence, he butchered the kick under pressure a couple of times. This was one of the first times I've watched him being chased with the ball in a high intensity pressure, & I saw him flail the ball.

In 3 or 4 years time when we are playing regular finals games this will be a problem. He needs to start to rectify this technique problem ASAP.

Seemed like Talia was amongst Metro's best in all but the opening game against Country. May have even been swung forward for one of the games? Very impressed with his marking and run he provided. Another to watch in the back end o the TAC Cup season. Carlisle is a fair chance to be around with our second round pick, and would be happy to get Griffith's or maybe even Pitt here.

James Craig looked good in the ruck for SA, McCartney rated him as the best performed ruck for the champs.

I saw J Craig against NSW & was impressed with his play, there was a couple who looked allright, S Day, Scotty Lycett played in a pocket, but this boy is a 202cm ruckman with intelligence, footy smarts & time, athletic & agile. He looked the goods to me but I didn't see them put him on the ball??? Hiding him a little??? Very polished young player.

I thought Lycett was bottom aged and only eligible for draft next year.

I wasn't studying draft elegibility but just footy prowess.

(even more exciting if thats the case) will keep a watch on his future then.)

What I mean is a genuine Key position sized body who will play a genuine Key Position, forward & back.

Garland is a great player but I don't see him in that Key full time.

He looks to me as a player you pick every week to perform special tasks, sometimes on a nimble small forward or your standard half back flank role or to play on those pacy roaming talls like Riewoldt & Richardson etc. I think he would have been a good one to adapt on a player like James Hird.

I don't see him as a genuine tall

You don't see Garland as a genuine tall, but you like Talia because he could be the next "Paul Roos" ? By your definition, Paul Roos wasn't a genuine tall because he was 188cms; Garland is 191cms - taller than McNamara. You claim Garland can do "special tasks" from playing "on a nimble small forward or your standard half back flank role or to play on those pacy roaming talls like Riewoldt & Richardson etc", yet you don't see him as a tall ? He's also done well on Franklin.

Garland is the modern day prototype running tall. We've got Frawley who was able to outbody Lloyd on occasions, Warnock for similar bulk forwards, and Garland who like Rivers has the uncanny ability to get his fist on the ball at the last moment without infringing. Warnock lacks class, but has improved immeasurably over the last couple of years and bear in mind that the days of the "gorilla" forwards is presently just about shot.

I think I know what you're trying to say, but I don't agree.

Just adding that Hayden Jolly for SA is my mate's cousin.

Looks like he'll be a good player, but I havent had a chance to watch any of the U18s with lack of Foxtel and being in Adelaide. Unfortunately, looks like he'll definitely be going to the Gold Coast, mate's spewing saying he could be a hell high pick - if not for the AFL screwing the draft.

Nice side....but really we would have no idea what the side will look like.

I stick by what I said, eg, I could see him being an option on a Pavlich when Pav was playing up near the middle lead up high. But if he drew him to the Goal square & played deep, we'd be slaughtered.

He can play well on the talls who are playing a ranging running role up near the midfield, richardson last year or Buddy last year, but near goal & I'd want Warnock or Frawley on them.

I see him as a half back flanker, or forward of there mostly. If he where to put on too much weight he'd lose a lot of that fantastic agility & balance he has.

Warnock was the right matchup for Lloyd & Frawley should have played on Lucas who drifted up to high forward many times, perfect place for Frawley to run off him.

Frawley will bulk up & be a key position player.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
