I am sooo exited!!!

Im going to the footy by my self wich is pretty wierd since im 17 but id do anything to watch.

Ill be there even thoe i have have VCE exams next day aswell!

Yeah his genuine nickname is WHOPPER. I will tell you the origin although it might get me kicked off the site. I will tread carefully, They call him Whopper because of the same reason they called John Longmire the Horse and its not because he looked like one. This is true so I hope I don't get in trouble for stating facts.

Just a little :D

I have it on very good authority that Jack Watts is a certain starter against Collingwood. I would not post this if I was not sure, but I have been told he is certain starter on Queens Birthday.

Oh btw Thanks for that steamin!

Correct, but nevertheless, it is still a decision that he should not be taking lightly. He has many opportunities to play AFL, but only one opportunity to do well in his VCE. If he or his family feel as though he would be harming his chances by playing, then so be it.

cos VCE is that important?

seriosuly, VCE is important IF you want to go to uni. otherwise, a pass mark is all that is required. I go to uni, I should know.

He has a career in front of him as an AFL footballer, at the end of that know one will care about his VCE. If he wants to study engineering or medicine, or arts at melbourne, while playing afl, his enter score might count. otherwise it doesn't mean jack. And if he is that keen to get in somewhere, he is earning 60k a year, to be 200k a year within 4 years and will have problems bypassing enter scores by going to a full fee paying position.

VCE is important yes. VCE is even more important to your average joe. but after the unis compare their marks, your enter score means nothing, to anyone ever.

Well, I hope you are right. Because your head is on the chopping block otherwise!

You can put the axe away now High Tower, Hope see a few Demonlanders at the walk.

I wasn't going to do the walk this year..... But now I am.

Can't wait to see number 4 bust through the banner.

Ah! Something similar to Rodney 'Balls' Grinter.

okay. so what do we all expect from him?

I think he will get about 15 touches playing up the ground. no goals

I agree with that. I have never, ever had to present my (equivalent of) ENTER score to anyone beyond uni requirements. I wouldn't even have a clue what my score was. Beyond university entry, these scores are purely for pissing contests and nothing else.

Uni results, on the other hand...

He will start on the bench.

Ten minutes into the first quarter he'll run on, to a massive wave of cheers (and possibly some other unmentionable acts). Davey will spot him up, he'll take a bounce and run, sell the dummy to Dale "Pansy" Thomas, run to the 50 and nail a goal. Cue standing ovation and many many other unmentionable activities in the pant region :lol:

In all honesty, I think he will probably get 15-20 touches, and be on the receiving end of at least one or two easy handballs from teammates trying to help him get a goal (especially if Miller is playing :D).

He won't have a huge game, he won't kick a bag, but I think he'll do a couple of things that will just have every Melbourne supporter smiling in the knowledge that this kid will one day be a star.

The club surely isn't putting any performance pressure on him. His first game should be about finding his feet and getting rid of the nerves. We are not playing him because we need him to win us the game (but it would be nice if you do Jack!)

Uni results, on the other hand...

I'm going into lock down this weekend and forcing myself to get all my work done before Monday.

Stupid uni crap getting in the way of Jack Watts. Disgrace!

Now hopefully the Watts image on this site can get updated so Jack is in a Demons jumper instead of the Big V!!!

apart from being super excited, my first thoughts exactly...

So let me see if I have this right.

Jack Watts is tall, athletic, gifted, intelligent, articulate, handsome, very likely to be wealthy oneday, and for particular reasons his nickname is 'Whopper'?

I'm prepared to call it now................Jack Watts is the greatest male specimen to ever walk the planet.

Absolutely ridiculous thing to say. VCE is important, whether you want to go to Uni or not. If you have that mentality, it says a lot about your character imo. Nothing is better than a good education. I don't care what anyone here says. To assume you're going to be earning 200k within 4 years is the biggest mistake an athlete could make. He has no idea what could happen between now and then. The good thing about Uni is that you can essentially do it for as long as you want. Plenty of players juggle full-time AFL with part-time studies and eventually get their degrees after 4 or 5 years. I have no doubt that each club encourages players to have a university degree or TAFE diploma as a back up.

I agree with that. I have never, ever had to present my (equivalent of) ENTER score to anyone beyond uni requirements. I wouldn't even have a clue what my score was. Beyond university entry, these scores are purely for pissing contests and nothing else.

not too sure about uni results either, after your first job is attained..although i did see someone the other day, list themselves as joe blog BE (civil) (honours1), which is the first time I have ever seen anyone qualify their honours grade as 1st or second class.

apart from being super excited, my first thoughts exactly...

Can we squeeze Jack Grimes on there too?.......if we ask nicely. :)

16 kicks, 6 handballs, 8 marks, 1 goal

100% effiency

His 1 goal will come at the 22 minute mark of the last quarter to put us 4 points in front. 55 out on the run 45 degree angle, members side of the ground. Punt road end. How good will that be.

In the job application (not my first) I recently did, I was required to give a copy of my academic transcript, even with 5 years working experience. That said, I got the job, even though my uni results were utterly shithouse, so maybe you're right

I get the feeling a QB debut for JW was the plan for a while.

I think for him to rech that goal however its likely he had to meet a number of check points. Check points referring not only to his footy but his school commitments etc...

For example:

Play 4 games for Casey

Fitness to X level

School progressing well (confirmed by parents/teachers)

Exam study X hours per week

etc etc

These checks would have been done each week to ensure he did what he needed to to do play QB. Its an exercise of due diligence and I am confident it was followed and he is ready, willing and able to tear the pies a new one on Monday!

There are alot of good careers out there that don't require VCE results, I'm thinking of trades like sparkies, builders and plumbers

anyway, off topic...

thats all well and good but you gotta get into university and if he wants to do a course that requires him to work his butt off then who are a bunch of internet posters to suggest that vce is not important. you (not you specifically nasher) may not think it is importnant but it may be for him. it used to infuriate me when people said that to me when i was in VCE. they may be your views but VCE/results are an individual thing.

that podcast was pure poetry. what a man!

btw ive never seen a thread explode like this before. amazing!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
