Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I think JMac's game got better as it went on. During the First Q i said the same thing to my Dad. He made 2 Clangers right in front of me & was slow to move with the game.

But he got better, & tackled really well after Half Time.

I'm sorry I got it wrong Junior had a blinder 13 disposals 1 clearence 3 tackles 2 frees against(at least one cost us a goal to Franklin, only PJ gave away more) while Mitchell got 31 disposals and 4 clearences that is an awesome game whichever way you look at it. Robbo and Miller were also brilliant.

Yeah. Because stats equate a good game. There's more to football than numbers.

What would you judge it on ? What did he actually do for you to think that he had a great game considering his job was to limit Mitchell which he failed at.

Yeah, because no-one's EVER failed to curtail Mitchell before. Besides, that wasn't his only job.

His opponent was close to BOG. He's not getting the ball he hasn't got the ball all year. If he wasn't captain there would be more than just me wanting him out of the side. Our midfield got slaughtered if it wasn't for Sylvia being a one man band we would have got smashed by over 10 goals.

He was injured for a while numbnuts. To my knowledge the only way to get the ball in the stands is when you have itchy nads.

JMac was never really a huge stat getter. In his Bluey years he was, but before then he was always a solid 20-25 possession per game player. So he got smashed. So did everyone else.

Oh, and you're placing emphasis on Sylvia now? If Sylvia became half the player JMac is NOW, he'd still end up doing about half as much in his career. One good game and suddenly you're siding with Colin over a two-time B&F winner, and great servant of the club. And you expect us to take you seriously? The same thing happened to Neita towards the end of his career.

Show some respect.

yesterday, his chasing and tackling were excpetional... he went to other men that were not his and did everythign you would expect from a elader. at half time he gave the team a bake, and they responded....

yes, but its not a "stat" and if you:

a) only look at the newspapers, or

B) only watch games via the Tele, or

c) go to the games but are too thick to comprehend the contribution a player is making to the pattern of the game

Then you fall back on the stats...

Jesus. What is it with Melbourne supporters? We're worse than Sydney supporters sometimes. Learn how to watch a game of footy. JMac was good today, coming off a recent injury too.

thank god someone knows whats goin on...

There's no need for name calling you don't have to agree with me but there is no need for that childish crap.

I would doubt that he would have had over 20 odd touches this year. He had an ordinary year last year and he has had a poor year this year.

You wrote that he got smashed but he still had an awesome game well I've never seen that happen and your saying you can't take me seriously?

Sylvia's last 6 weeks have been a lot better than Junior's and it had to be cause Sylvia was very lucky not to be dropped for more than 1 week at the start of the year. Overall Junior has obviously been a lot better than Sylvia but not this year no way.

They have different roles, Sylvia relies on someone getting the ball to him. Junior has to get it himself, or stop someone from getting it.

Difficult to compare the two.

Junior is coming back from a hammy and comes and goes in games but around the stoppages his value rises. We are last, but we don't often get smashed in the clearances or contested possesions, and I dare say that the captain has something to do with that.

Fair enough. I could have done without the sarcasm. But that's it. JMac deserves a lot more respect from you, and as soon as you acknowledge the fact he offers more to the side than just 20+ possessions, I'll acknowledge where I've gone wrong. Also, he didn't have an ordinary year last year. It was as JMac as any year. IMO I thought he had a good game despite the stats, and if you want to split hairs, my point about him being smashed was to give you a little leeway. If YOU think he was smashed, consider the fact that just about everyone out there was smashed. That better?

In Sylvia's last six weeks he actually played footy. I'll say it again, JMac has been injured. He missed a couple, and then needed a couple to get fit again. JMac ran the game out beautifully on the weekend. Is this not a plus? Besides, Sylvia's last 6 weeks were not that flash either. He was doing nothing up until a couple of weeks ago when he started finding more of the ball, and as Bailey has suggested, he was the benificiary of a lot of downfield ball. I think that's a bit harsh on Bailey's part. I mean, you still have to get it and use it no matter where you are on the ground. But perhaps there's some truth to it.

And your last sentence is topical claptrap. He's played one good game this year. That's it. What a game it was, sure, but one good game. Junior has been solid besides injury, which he's ALWAYS been. Nothing more nothing less. And comparing a finisher to a battler/tagger is stupid as well.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
