Sam Blease

Featured Replies

Seems strange in this day in age of professional football, that listed players still attend school.

It's not strange at all. Maric last year, Callan Ward, Dangerfield, Andrew Walker, etc.

Let's get over all the bad injuries now and have a clear crack at in 2-3 years time. Hopefully he doesn't have any long term issues with this and can be ready to push for senior selection for the pre-season games next year.

No point stopping these guys being kids though. Accidents will always happen. I think it is good players can continue at school if they are drafted young.

Hopefully he can focus on his studies like Luke Ball, Stef Martin did and beast out a huge VCE score.

F%@*

My sentiments, exactly.

Blease (and Watts) were both drafted too young.

The history continues...as they've followed the footsteps of many before them.

Heard about this on The Footy Show last night via Hutchy. Devastating for Sam.

They also talked to Green: he had 3 different fractures/breaks to his jaw. He said he wants to be back in 3-4 weeks.

Sam Blease, if it is ONLY the Fibula, will be more than fine, he will be OK. The Fibula is not a load bearing bone.

Thanks for that Dee-luded; without that feedback I'd still be in the dark. Best news I've heard all morning.

That is correct. He should be fine as long as there are no complications from the surgery and the bone unites in the correct manner. We all should be thankful that it's only the fibula. And considering he wasn't going to play senior footy this year anyhow, let's look on the bright side and say that it's lucky it happened now and not later in his career.

And if this has taught us anything, is that Jack Watts should be spending his lunchtimes in the library, covered in bubble wrap, with a 5m clear zone around him. Kids who dare to approach get slapped*.

Yeah, but knowing our luck, the roof would probably fall on him or he'd choke on his chewing gum or something.

Apparently the kid who tackled him was a Rangers team mate.

This is bad news. I was dreading one of our young players getting an injuys like this.

As for people saying we should stop Watts from playing school footy now. Thats just stupid, you cant wrap the kid up in cotton wool for the next few years, the injury could have easily happened in a training session. Remeber when Spider Everitt sprained his ankle when he was walking in his backyard?

and tingay and his glass window?

and brad symes broke both arms falling of a team mates car didnt he?

obviously not.....

hahaha post of the thread.

and let's hope Sam improves his driving skills as well

2 Questions:

1) Is the nature of Blease's injury such that we could put him on the LTI list?

2) If we could put Blease on the LTI list for this year, should we and if so who should get elevated in this case?

I don't think we'll elevate anyone at the moment.

We could have already done that given that Garland is on the LTI, so clearly nobody is ready/required.

McKenzie would however be my pick of the rookies, and he may well be promoted and given his opportunity to play AFL later on in the year.

Well, at least it happened this year when we weren't expecting him to play anyway. It would have really sucked if he did it in two years time. Now he gets the benefits of our medical/physio department to help him recover and will be way ahead of all the other guys lining up for their first games next year thanks to a year of weights/fitness work with our guys. It sure sucks for Sam, but it could have been sooooo much worse.

Any updates on the Blease injury situation? How is he progressing/recovering?

Blease was seen doing laps at Junction Oval last week with some of the injured lads. It is a real pity that we could not get the club- Ryan Phelan to give us an update on all the major injuries from this year- Blease, Garland, Wona ETC.

GeeI do hope Blease does not have complications. Hope he has grown from it.

Surely his upper body will be massive... (and by massive I mean much bigger than if he'd done cardio this year) Next Beamer? Now there is a bloke who loves weights room.

Not necessarily, if your body won't allow you to then thats how it is. He is young and his body type won't stack on muscle in a hurry.

He's put on a couple of kilos (according to a couple of people I know that were involved with him at Norwood) but nothing extraordinary.

Doubt he'll end up the size of Moloney though, completely different body shapes.

plus one of them is mid 25ish the other is 18-19. you should see the before and after shots of fevola, he goes from jack watts size to his current, over about 6 yrs

Probably not as big as moloney, but he will get there, give these 18 yr olds time

He's running quite freely now, but hasn't started kicking the footy. He's improved his upper body slightly, but still very very light. But his game is running fast and delivering with skill.

He's about to go in for a minor operation on his thumb.

Clinton Young from the Hawks was an injury away from a Norm Smith Medal with a similar frame to Blease.

I think they probably have comparable games as well.

i don't know sam blease...not having a go at him personally but....did anyone else see the picture of Sam Blease and Jack Watts at the Melbourne B&F?

I think that sam blease looked fat in the face...I know he's had a lot of time off with a broken leg...but has his leg been broken so bad he's been unable to move? hence put a lot of weight on...or does he naturally have a round face?

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
