Hawthorn and Carlton have re-established themselves as strong clubs by getting recent legends of the club with high profiles to return and help out at the Board and Coaching level e.g Dermie and Dunstall at the Hawks and Williams, Sticks and Ratten at the Blues. So far we only have Jimmy as the sole spokesman of the MFC revival - why aren't Lyon, Viney and the OX making a united Coalition at the MFC - actions speak louder then words gentleman. Especially considering you were all too happy too take money under the table which led to us losing draft picks. Time to give something meaningful back to the club that gave you the opportunity to become what you are today.

Lyon has said in the past that he has the game plan to win a Premiership. Woosha and Roos (from Lyon's era) have delivered it for their loved clubs. Voss wants to win a Premiership as coach for his old club and Buckley has all but said it. MFC supporters always cop it from everyone for being weak and not sticking fat with club - same question has to be asked of our highly paid passed champions!

Lyons is one of Jim's best mates. Lyon can not do much but I am sure if Jim asked him to do something he would and im sure Jim has already we just don't know about it.

Lyon was my favourite player when I was young and naive. Ever since he ha entered the media he reminds me too much of a Iain Chappel wannabe without the record to back it up. Lyon was a highly talented player, and a great public speaker/orrator. When I took the blinkers off a few years ago I realised he used to be very a soft footballer. Nonetheless, Lyon as media personality takes great delight in taking pot shots at players who do the same thing as he did as a NQR.

Lets get some facts straight.

No body knows the situation between past players and their current role - or lack there of, within the club.

Todd Viney - Was midfield coach at the Hawks for years, until he returned home only this year to Adelaide to coach there.

The Ox - He was forward coach at the Bullies for a number of years, whilst having a media role

Garry Lyon - As we all know has a number of media commitments, which would obviously restrict the capacity of the role he could perform if any, at the club. He often says that he gets down to the club as much as he can, and he did also play a role when trying to net players during the pre season.

The fact is, this is more of a blight on our previous administration rather than the ex players them selfs.

Garry Lyon learnt his Media chops doing "The Junior Supporters Club" at about 6:30 on Saturday morning on ch 7. He always wanted a job on the idiot box.

I'm sure he is in contact with Jimma fairly regulairly. If stynesy can reunite old ex Presidents i have a good feeling that ex players will return in time.

The fact is, this is more of a blight on every previous administration over the last 12 or so years and ex players are not responsible for their actions or lacktherof during this period.

I think Lyon is more afraid of losing his 'reputation' than he has to gain as being a major stakeholder at the Dees. I have great respect for the man and I'm pretty sure I've heard him say he pulls his weight behind the scenes, I just think he doesn't want to be seen as having 'too many fingers in the pots'. I think he did a fantastic Job promoting the Debt Demolition last year and help Jimmy out. I don't think we see it as much as it occurs. I'm just glad he's nothing like BT... I would much rather be this way than be one iota like that giant spanner.

Viney as stated, now back in SA, probably little chance we'll see him at the MFC although I think it would be nice one day. And the OX, probably a little in the same boat as Gary...? Too many media commitments?

Well, there were a few other players in there, including Neitz, I think Viney... Connolly was in there, and Dean Bailey as well, just in case anyone ever doubt's his commitment to the club - but the point here is that one Gary Lyon was not just on the list of major contributors, he was pretty highly 'ranked' as well - the order was highest to lowest contribution, although of course they didn't publish the exact sums.

Lyon is still there for the Demons, don't worry about that.

Some good, some bad - I'm nowhere near as impressed as most people on here seem to be. I certainly wouldn't say "fine".

I know, I won't go bumping an old thread and go over old ground. I know where you stand. It's fair to say, so do alot of others.

You mentioned the sponsorship deals.

But I will ask you this: -

Despite the 'time delay' it took to sign the suited sponsors for the club, as you have referred to it, in the past. Are you happy with the sponsorship deals the club has in place at present?

My frustration with Lyon, whom I admired as a player, is his reluctance to stick his neck out for the dees. I understand that he wants to be seen as neutral in his commentary roles, but plenty of others -- all those Collingwood/Essendon/St Kilda/Carlton supporters in the media (North, too, of course) all go into bat for those teams. Those w. a Melbourne bias, like Lyon or Mike Sheahan, feel the need to hide their support under a bushel. We need all the support we can get!
