REPORTABLE OFFENCE..

Recommended Posts

Did any Demonlanders note the head punch by I think ,Steve Johnson, last night when running with the flight and pretending to attempt to spoil?

It reminded me of Rod Grinter's wild swing at the ball at the Western Oval in the eighties , when he broke Wallace's jaw. The ball was only inches from his fist when he hit him. This was the first Video report.

While it was unnecessarily violent, he couldn't have picked a more deserving target. Unsatisfied with infecting Grinter's arm and the 5 week suspension, "Ole Snakeneck" took legal action. I've never liked the guy, and hope he loses his job at Richmond.

Wasn't the punch by Luke Hodge..... And yes he was reported for it..... Has a bad record at the tribunal, but you would think he would get off.... Was pretty soft....

hodge ( may have been going for the ball) BUT a hit to the head.... OUT !!!!

Sorry Jack, Johnson effort was nothing like it. Whatever you want to say about the target of Grinters fist, this was a perfect example of the reckless brainfades that undermined Grinter's talent ovger the course of his career.

Were you at the Western Oval that day, Rhino? I was, and had a very good view. I'd be interested to hear your observations of the incident and the immediate aftermath.

Incidentally, I'm not defending Grinter for some of his other misdemeanours, but I was interested in this one, since the circumstances were unique.

By the way, the other posters are right, it was Hodge, not Johnson last night.

Johnson punched someone else, earlier, and seems to have got away with it.

Grinter's punch on Wallace didn't spoil his beauty.....year-round tan, coiffured hair, and the occasional use of leather trousers!

He has carry-over points and a bad record, a minimum offence should attract 125 points, no "early plea" plus the residuals so maybe a couple of games even

I have already called it a "reckless brainfade" what more do you want. It was a dumb act. And soon as he had done it...I thought GONE. I was surprised when the umpires did not report him then

The only thing unique about it was there was a huge post match complaint because Grinter was not immediately reported. And he was subsequently cited and suspended. I dont like Wallet at all but as a footballer he was a hard in and under player. However, he had his face gashed and got stitches and Griinter broke his hand/finger/wrist. Grinter could his fair whack at the tribunal

Absolutely.

It was something reminiscent of one of those clotheslines from the World Wrestling Federation in the days when wrestling was a fair dinkum sport  and not a single cut lunch thrown in the Hawthorn v Geelong game came close to matching Grinter's effort.

Still, I reckon 6 weeks was a tad too much and under today's system he would have probably gotten off on appeal with 97.5 demerit points because Wallace did play the following week and Balls nearly died of septicemea from the infection to his forearm.

if you have any MCC friends, fork out $30 (if you can) and sit in the MCC (with a collar) because that is your best shot...if not ponsford stand against the roos, and punt road end agaisnt the pies.

That's a great response to Jumping Jack's thread Nugget.

Cheers!

You were shocked, yet NOT ONE Footscray player remonstrated, and the umpire, 5 metres away , didn't report him.

It was a windy day, and a mongrel punt against it. Grinter was running with the flight and took a wild swing at the ball/on-coming player.

I was surprised he wasn't reported, but no Footscray player showed any angst, despite the break in play while the trainers ran out to attend him.

You're right, Grinter did some vicious things. My point was that Hodge deliberately punched the side of the head when he knew he couldn't reach the ball.He should go!

TB - I thought he had eyes only for the ball, in all fairness, it was unfortunate contact, the free was awarded. I think the right decision was made now that it's been thrown out. I was surprised he got reported really. Hodge was seen joking with Mooney afterwards in disbelief at being reported.

PS. I hate Hawthorn too. But fairs fair. If that was Garland you would of been up in arms in disbelief.

Maybe they did not like players with suntans.

I had a great view of Wallaces Jaw splintering on the Western oval. You could hear the crack aswell. Days gone By. What happened on friday was a fairy tap compared to Grinter.

We Demon Supporters were lucky to get out of that ground alive that day..

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
