I damm well hope so, they are building a gym next to the stand this year so really they will have access to all their needs all year round. Also it will entrench themselves with the community in a bigger way, although we play out of the "G" in our new beginning we will grow out of a suburb which is what we need, more SUPPORTERS to give us a real chance to grow.

Casey could become an AFL venue: Schwab

MELBOURNE chief executive Cameron Schwab believes it is only a matter of time before a NAB Cup match will be played at Casey Fields.

Schwab said the continued development of Melbourne's summer training base will demand an official AFL fixture in the near future.

"It's inevitable. It'll end up being – I don't like the term necessarily – a boutique stadium, which footy needs. It might be a bit more traditional, where some people stand and eat their pies," Schwab told melbournefc.com.au at a club breakfast held at Casey Fields on Friday..........

Some interesting stuff in the article. We really do need to make Casey Fields our own. I think there should be a big 'Home of MelbourneFC' logo on the back of the main grandstand and on any Casey Fields signs.

I'm of the opinion once the deal has been signed the Melbourne Football Club should start looking towards a building a boutique stadium, so games against interstate club could be played there. This enabling us to make a strong profit with these games rather than failing with losses like in the past. The board need to start thinking outside the box a little.

This year will be the 3rd NAB Challenge match at Casey Fields.

NAB Cup match maybe next year and then, in 2011 or 2012, an AFL match against the Gold Coast or Freo.

As a local resident of Casey, I think full relocation of the footy dept to Casey Fields would be a great outcome with admin/corporate etc remaining at the high profile MCG.

This is a somewhat similar setup to Arsenal, which has its training centre at Hertfordshire (a 45 minute drive from Emirates Stadium).

Arsenal in fact has 3 sites - admin at Highbury (its traditional "home"), the Emirates Stadium which it commenced playing its home games at from 2006, and its training base.

It certainly provides a model for MFC to aspire to.

Spot on, would be a hell of a lot cheaper for the football dept to be down at Casey and the Admin at the MCG, once we get over where we train the better the Dorks have proved that.

No no no. One of the major reasons that the MFC have hated Junction Oval was that we have always been a split football club (well...since we got the boot from the MCG..).

I'm not recommending we move everything to Casey. However, it would be great if we could have everything in the one place. It would be great if the CEO could walk down the corridor to the Football Manager to have a talk, or for the board to hold a meeting with the coach without him having to drive away. It was a problem at the Junction which will be greater if we have the split with Casey.

This is why the MCG/Bubbledome plan is likeable.

The management offices and medical will be based at the MCG with little held at Bubbledome (which was a flawed concept from the start).

Casey as a training venue is ideal and they would be mad to knock back the opportunity for the Bubble stadium which already has serious limitations even before it has been used.

And if we are to rejoin the MCC in any way, this may be the in they are looking for. The MCC could spread its portfolio through the Demons and the Casey Community in some manner through Casey Fields.

dont get me wrong. the junction oval was crappidicrap when it comes to facilities. However, wasn't the fact that we had a "split club" one of Ian Ridley and co's urge for the amalgamation? His predictions were right, still now, we are not all togethor as one club.

On a side note, I don't get what you are saying about the Bubbledome. Ypu say it has serious limitations, yet we would be silly to knock it back?

There is no problem there because everything is togethor out at Waverley:

look at the new Hawks Museum, the Club’s nine premiership cups, administration, training area and football offices.

They have Glenferrie as their spiritual home and they have grown out of that suburb, but everything to do with the day to day running is at Waverly. IT WORKS.

-I wouldnt be upset if we moved EVERYTHING to Casey Fields. It is a far way out, but it is after all, a suburb to grow out of, where the club as one could situate itself. The MCG would still be our spiritual home and hopefully, we could get some sort of social club in the Southern Stand maybe instead, but this model, of splitting ourselves three or four ways does not seem like a workable option.
