You must be suicidal watching MFC rucks then.
Again not the issue but since you brought it up, here are their comparative statistics:

Warnock 9 games 101 disposals 11.22 average disposals 0 goals 1 behind 74 hit outs 8.22 average hitouts 11 tackles 1.22 tackles

Jamar 14 games 115 disposals 8.21 average disposals 4 goals 2 behinds 261 hit outs 18.64 average hit outs 50 tackles 3.57 average tackles

Johnson 16 games 220 disposals 13.75 average disposals 7 goals 4 behinds 149 hitouts 9.31 average hit outs 35 tackles 2.19 average tackles

There's nothing special there from any of them and Warnock's numbers, even when allowing for the fact that he's the second string ruckman to Sandilands are nothing to suggest he's going to be the next best thing as a ruckman. I likened the situation to the euphoria of some Collingwood supporters when their club gave away a # 1 draft pick to get Cameron Wood. That doesn't mean I'm saying Warnock will be a dud but I do remain to be convinced and on exposed form and what I've seen of him, if he decides to go elsewhere I wouldn't be shedding any tears.

Agree with you Rolling Stone I haven’t seen anything in R.Warnock to really get excited about and I started watching him quite closely this year due to all the speculation he might be heading our way. Having said that I didn’t really see anything in M.Warnock until he was given a real go and he turned me around quite considerably as the year went on, maybe Robbie with a regular run as the first ruck at a new club will excel but I wouldn’t be throwing 2nd round draft picks or ridiculous amounts of cash around to land him based on what I’ve seen to date.

ruckmen take a longer time to develop - due to their body shape, etc.

has shown some signs of promise - he can hit a target by boot, he can take a grab and he actually covers the ground quite well...

as a club, i think this is a very important step going forward...

we all give collingwood shyte for their inability to catch a big one, well here is our chance to change the recent history....

we have a lot to offer and yes the financial side of things is still a little fuzzy but the other areas are beginning to take shape: -

1. the casey venture

2. the rectangle arena and gosch's paddock

3. a new board

4. a new coach

5. a super young playing list that has talent

it is time for the demons to make a stand - be realistic and not hamstring ourselves in the process......

Posted
Chris Bond is trying to pump him up so much........

He won't come cheap.

If Warnock wants to come to Melbourne and no other club then he can come very cheap, in the PSD.

The ball is in Melbourne's court here as Freo can risk getting nothing for him.

Interesting bit of info on Robbie Warnock status hidden away in this fox sports article on tim boyle.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,2...3-23211,00.html

note that

(1) carlton is suggested as his club of choice

(2) carlton are prepared to offer a second round draft choice

(3) the afl has cleared us of any wrong doing in relation to the meeting we had with Robbie last month.

Carlton HAVE to be cheating the salary cap, Warnock will end up with them, they are definitely cheating but Pratt would have made some way around it

I can't see Carlton giving Fremantle a better deal than us. Even though I think it is a bit high I think we will give pick 19 to them. I can't see Carlton beating that. Even though they haven't been mentioned I think Essendon could play a big part cause they have Lovett and I'm sure Freo will want him for his pace and there are Essendon people at Freo that he already knows.

There's no point getting particularly excited or depressed before the fact. Otherwise we'll all get depressed like last year.

Last year, even Judd's auntie was under the impression he was going to Collingwood. No-one here knows anything, just sit back and let the cards fall.

Very well said mate..

It's impossible to tell what happens, only until Robbie decides will we know..

nudge your my brother, you backed me up the other day and i am again here too

rhino richards doesn't know what he's talking about half the time

Thanks mate!!!

Yes, I know, he's a real tool.. :)

haha!

im just a bit worried though because yes we have the bargaining power..that article in the age wasn't convincing, it hinted that carlton are favourites because it is believed "melbourne isn't his preferred destinaton"

why would he want to go to carlton/why would carlton want him with cloke/kreuzer/hampson? seems sot strange. i will cut it if carlton get him!

COME ON ROBBIE, and come on MFC- DO EVERYTHING TO GET HIM OVER THE LINE

Look, I've analysed this whole Robbie Warnock thing in detail.

I have had detailed discussions, mostly on another issue, granted, with no less demonland luminaries than, "deanox", "belzebub59" and "Rhino Richards" as to how we can fit this dynamic 16 game wonder ruckman into the Red clash jumper, and we've come up with the following;

Just spend the $1m over 3 years. We're good for it! He may not even break down, or better still he may eventually be a footballer.

Can you just wait until I raise my umbrella... ta.

Before you disappear in stats did you consider game time on the ground?

The kid is 22yo. with potential. Jamar will be 26, Johnson will be 25. They have 3 to 4 years in the system and are not at AFL standard individually or as a pair.

Its a silly comparison that lacks vision.

Collingwood took the best available who was a 3rd string ruck from Brisbane who were happy to trade. By the way it was pick 14 for Wood. BTW Wood is only 22yo. Ruckman take time to mature.

MFC has a real problem if it cannot obtain a capable first ruckman.

Posted

I think RR colours this one quite accurately in terms of where he's at.. Even now he's more than adequate, a very handy ruck. Its not unreasonable to think he will get better still.

Funny ..w have a Ruck as Chairman....might be some relevance to the emphasis in imortance of this position ..;)

We havent as a team played with a dominant ruck for some time.. it will make a real difference when we do !!

Posted

My comment and emphasis was more aimed at our previous influence on the field ...say over the last 3-4 years..which was negligible.

I think Warnock has the goods to become a very successful player for us.

Below is a possibly biased synopsis from a Freo supporter. Fwiw, I agree with him and believe that we must do all that we can to secure his services. I'd give pick 19 to get the deal done.

And at the bottom is a photo link when he was drafted.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FREO guy

vvvv

Most clubs had doubts over an anorexic looking 204cm player ever making it to the required physical level. Turns out he was eating like a horse and was at the end of a recent growth spurt.

The thing Fremantle liked about him was his excellent endurance. Was elite amongst potential draftee's and beat many players smaller than him. Beep test from memory was 13.1.

Came to the club and put on 10kg over 1 preseason. Started in the WAFL reserves and was clearly too classy and found himself in the senior side after a handful of games. Was way ahead of development. The club had signed him on a 3 year contact from the start given where he was starting.

By the end of his debut season he was a regular at WAFL level. Still looked skinny as a rake.

Preason 2, manages to put on another 10kg. Now into the high 80's. Still looked skinny but started to dominate in the WAFL. Justin Longmuir retired after 1 game in the 2007 season. Warnock got his chance mid way through the season with some stella form in the WAFL.

Subsequently Sandilands goes down with injury and Warnock is left to lead the ruck in his 2nd season at the club. (refer back to that picture again). Surprisingly he does exceptionally well. In games where Cox was meant to dominate, Warnock is clearing the ball and gathering possessions. He has his best game for season 2007 against Carlton. 16 possessions and 16 hitouts.

His most impressive stuff is when he chases down midfielders who try and go around him laying some big tackles. Very fast off the mark. Also he has more finesse than Sandilands in the tap work. Fremantle fans get overexcited and start claiming it'll be hard for Sandilands to get back the lead ruck.

Preseason 08 rolls around. He hurts his lower back. Gets games at the beginning of the year when he wasn't ready. Performs poorly and is dropped. He is now playing WAFL at West Perth. Mark Seaby, Kepler Bradley and Adam Campbell all playing their. So at best he's getting 50% time in the ruck, sharing the duties with Mark Seaby.

This when all the rumours of him leaving start. Eventually finds form and is brought back to the senior team. Does well in combination with Sandilands and eventually hurts his shoulder. His season ends early for surgery.

Here we are.

He's grown 2cm taller, he's now 206cm. Weighs in the mid 90's but is still shy of a mature body. Probably needs to shade a 100kg before he could bang bodies regularly with the top rucks. He's got the same armspan as Sandilands and a pretty good leap.

From the last 5 drafts how many ruckman would be classed better than Warnock:

2007 draft:

Kreuzer

2006 draft:

Leuenberger

2005 draft:

???

2004 draft:

Ivan Maric (only recently hit form)

2003 draft:

I wonder which club 3AW was referring to tonight when they said that a Melbourne-based club had offered Warnock 4 years at $400,000 a season?

And in passing while just interviewing Ju$$ on the FS at the Scum's B&F, Hutchison stated that Carlton are the "overwhelming favourite" to secure his services.

Heavens, I hope it wasn't us.

Forget the debate here about picks. What's important is where Warnock wants to go.

If it's not us, then Freo can trade for him. If it is us, then it looks like we will have to be nice, because Warnock has said he wants Freo 'looked after'. 3rd round pick? Nothing better IMO.

He has to state his preferred club - bet Freo hope its Carltank

com'on folks ...we ought to be used to players not choosing us by now !! lol if he doesnt want to come..so be it..and again we move on. All efforts should be made and best cases put forward etc..but if to no avail, its to no avail.

Still history shows he's probably got a pretty good idea of where he prefers...thats life..

No one else actually knows yet..so you never know... time as always will reveal

Thanks 'Redleg', appreciate it.

Who knows, they might not be the only brothers at MelbourneFC next year with talks on Alwyn Davey buzzing round the Club.

Ahhh do you think the guy with the usename Jack Watts could change his photo.

I believe i have had that photo as my avitar for a couple of months now.

And i didn't think you could use a footballers name as a username if i am correct.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
