Unofficial pre-home game MFC lunch

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have read some posts suggesting that it would be a great idea that dees supporters have a place to eat at a restaurant near the MCG for MCG games.

I haven't really developed this idea fully, but..... I own a restaurant on Toorak Rd, South Yarra , which is a 20 minute walk from the MCG (or a 30 minute drive on a bad day!!!). I am happy to explore the idea that we put on a reasonably priced pre-footy lunch deal, from which $5 for each order will be donated to the footy club (with discretion to donate more, of course). Our restaurant is also a bar, and can comfortably hold 60 - I don't want to say who we are yet because it's not about plugging us.

We could trial the idea as a one-off before the Richmond game if there is interest.

I am also happy for feedback as to how this may work. So what do people think?

Choko,

Great idea. I hope the club backs you.

I would love to be there, but will be in South Africa on business, but I'm sure your offer will be taken up. Obviously your accessible to those supporters from the inner east like me and the South/South East.

Do you do a good Parma and pot?

Good idea Choko. Parma & Pot sounds great Iva....

How is public transport from there, ok? Tram stop far from your restaurant?

Number 8 tram and South Yarra train station not too far at all.

By the way, I am not suggesting that this would be done through the MFC. I have tried speaking directly to the MFC about this and other ideas, and it is abundantly clear to me that I can help the club more by doing this without waiting for them to work out what they want to do. This would be unofficial.

Choko,

Understand your intitiative is "unofficial" but it would cost the club nothing to support it, even in an "unofficial" capacity.

Supporters who are willing to do such things should be recognised, even in a small way.

The potential benefits for the club far outweigh any negatives.

Good luck with it anyway mate.

Cheers

It sounds like he's already contacted the Club, and hasn't managed to get anywhere.

That said, the Club seemed receptive to 45hotgood's Birthday Celebrations - perhaps he could point Choko in the right direction with regards who to speak to.

What would the cost for food and drinks be roughly, and what sought of menu would you put together might be interested in this.

Great work Choko!

I'm in, fantastic initiative

Ok, thanks for your thoughts everyone.

Great suggestions re the club being involved. I had a chat now with Greg Romanes (Fundraising), and he is extremely helpful on this.

He is currently liaising with Chris Connolly, and we will be getting either an injured player or a club rep to come and speak at the pre-match function. Greg will contact me to confirm who is available, and I will let you know. The club is open to a trial run in the pre-match before the Richmond game, so we would need to move quickly.

So, for the plan, maybe before I go posting details, an op should email me or arrange a call with me to make sure they are comfortable with me pursuing this on this forum...?

This is good news.

Well done again.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
