Cale Morton - Rising Star nomination

If he does not get it this week, the club needs to call Garry Lyon and tell him to QUIT his NAB involvement..

Awesome today, and there in NOT ! player out of last years draft id rather have, he's the pick!

Remember, is far ahead of schedule, wasnt supposed to be this good yet, just wait till he bulks up, and gets another pre-season into his body and refines his kicking even more! lookout!

*cough* Cotchin *cough*

Every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Not saying Morton is no good, he's obviously going to be a very good player, I just think that Cotchin will be an absolute star.

I don't understand how Morton is not mentioned in the same light as Cotchin and Palmer has had just as good of a season.

The bloke is built like a pencil and is averaging 18 disposals a game. To put it into perspective inhis first year he is light years ahead of McLean and Jones.

Yes this kid does deserve a nomination only , definately miles behind Palmer Cotchin ect and oh dont forget nomination Garland played on all the big names and clearl held his own

I do. I watched Morton closely today, and again felt underwhelmed by his performance. Sure, he reads the play and makes position well, but I'm coming to the conclusion that he's just a bad kick. Under no pressure, he butchers the ball by foot time and time again. And kicking the ball out-on-the-full to a leading player (Miller I think), when under no pressure, is inexcusable at any level.

I never saw them play at junior level, but Morton does things that make me question as to why there was any debate as to whether Cotchin or he would get picked up by the Tiges. Cotchin displays the talent of a potentially elite player, whereas Morton will be a very good 200 gamer.

Morton had 30 touches and an 80% disposal efficiency. He had 2 clangers from those 30 touches. They're just numbers, but it certainly doesn't paint the picture you are trying to paint.

Would you say that Palmer is a better kick, mo?

You're the most underwhelming poster I've seen on Demonland in my 7 years of reading and 6 years of posting.

Does my opinion matter as much to you as yours does to me ?

No.

The whole match was played at the intensity of a VFL 2nds game, so the 80% effeciency was hardly outstanding.

I'm hoping like hell that Morton becomes the elite player that we sadly need, but he does things that lack polish, and age can't excuse. I'm not surprised that he hasn't been nominated for the NAB Rising Star prior to this round.

Palmer and Morton are on a par with their foot disposal, but the difference is that Palmer is pretty much Freo's no. 1 on-baller, and is targeted by the opposition far more than Morton.

Cotchin, Palmer and Masten all generally play as midfielders.

Morton is a floating flanker in fairness to the other players.

He played well today though. Got a great engine, just needs to be more decisive and not worry himself so much.

Morton is playing on the wing. And he played most of the game on Baun.

Palmer and Morton are on a par with their foot disposal

Oh dear. I suppose you can lead a horse to water.......

What does that mean?

I have watched morton closely for a few weeks as a friend of mine loves to bag him (carlton supporter) and Morton has regularly made some terrible clangers. BUT yesterday, apart from that early OOB, his disposal was accurate AND smart. He did some very intelligent things with the football and was quite evasive at times. Even my friend was impressed and agreed that he was one of the best on ground.

Polish? What about that bulk against essendon before he kicked the goal in the last quarter. He did another very impressive one yesterday where he faked the handball and took out the player, then handballed to a free player and we were off.

Morton definitely throws up some shocking kicks more often than we would like, but he also has kicked some brilliant goals from outside 50 and done some very TJ-like spotting up of targets in the 50. He is a ball magnet, good evasive skills, good vision, and a good football brain. His kicking can be anything from hideous to amazing but he definitely has the tools and with a few seasons under his belt I think he will be smashing them (and well above Palmer).

Has Dalziell from Bris been nominated yet?? He was BOG last night. There is also a kid Connors who has 3 goals at half time for Richmond??Cale seems to get pipped at the post every time he has a blinder! Would be a blight on the rising star concept if he doesnt get nominated this year.

Dalziell is too old to be nominated, but jeez he was impressive.

Can he be nominated next year?

What are the criteria?

Yeah he has had a dream run after half a dozen games. Good news 4 Cale though, hopefully he gets the nod this week

In regards to the question of who is the best of the midfield (or not KP) crop from last years draft.

I think Cotchin is miles ahead of them all. Got all the skill in the world and alot of courage. Inside and outside midfielder. I love Cale but I see more potential in Cotchin to become an elite player.

Wow. Do you go for Melbourne?

Yeah, it seems Richmond may have got a draft selection right for once.

Anybody hear/see Cale's interview after the W.C. match. Not only has the kid got skill (just needs bulking up) he speaks and conducts himself very well.

I reckon almost certainly a future captain.

I reckon if we can get Jack Watts by the draft he just might be our future Captain. I've heard him talk too. He will be a leader of men.

Jones Mclean Rivers Watts Morton Bruce Green. Who won't be future captain?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
