Juice has been spending plenty of time at Sandy and I'm sure Sautner would be looking after him as far as on field coaching goes so he won't lose out there, not to mention if Neitz hangs around as a forward coach

Its a slur on unsung heroes that are hard workers like Gallagher etc dont "bleed for the jumper" like players who are animated and extroverts. Its bull.

Saunts is a VFL hack that has benefitted from the largesse of VFL competent MFC players that have given him great use of the footy. He is expert at the easy receive possession and the first person to ignore a player by hand or foot in a better position sometimes to the detriment of the side.

In the case of Hall, Fev and Richo where there selfishness or frustration goes overboard (and it does too often) it has been incredibly destructive to the team.

Given where Newton is the last thing we need him to do is master Saunts selfishness and short cuts. You can do it at VFL. You cant at AFL. And its not as if Saunts would mentor anyone outside fulfilling his own needs.

1. You seem to have made your mind up on this but once again I disagree. His interaction with Maric and the like from what I have seen on numerous occasions were positive and constructive.

2. He's a full forward and he's still a solid VFL player. Their forward structure is centrered around him. Easy receive possession? During ther Willy game a couple of weeks ago he was fantastic, took about 5 or 6 beautiful contested marks on a top Williamstown defender.

3. True Fev and Richo, however the latter is now reformed. Sydney won a flag. I wish we had a culture like theirs.

4. Sautner can play below his knees and jump into the contest whenever he can when the ball is in dispute. Where did it say that Sautner is contracturally obliged to mentor Newton? He's paid to kick goals for a footy team that is not the Melbourne reserves.

I think you'll find Sauntner won quite a few of his goalkicking awards before and away from us during the Melbourne alliance, and a good deal of his success over the years has also had to do with the quality of Zebra onballers we had. You don't win 7 leading goalkicker awards by constantly taking shortcuts, and since when has selfishness in forwards been an abhorrent quality? Its what made a lot of them so good.

Again, have you ever been to a VFL huddle? His voice of encouragement and authoratitive presence stands above all others. The guy is a natural leader, teacher and motivator off-field. There is much Newton could do to learn off the bloke, but no, too many people would rather he figure out the caper for himself, and we know his mental strength is his weakest point.

1. Its not in keeping with my or other posters observations of Saunter. But I note you recognise that Saunters is as I describe because he is a full forward then now state that he isn't. Each way bet.

2. In a contest situation a player of Saunters size and strength should be either contesting the ball or creating paths (eb blocks, shepherds) to allow the team to ultimately score. He hangs off the pack and waits for the easy receive handball from the hard work of others. Teamwork on his terms. He is a good mark though for VFL level but thats not relevant to my comments on Saunts selfish.

3 In the past, Richo's antics have crucified the Tigers. At 32, its a long time coming buts its mindful that in a side lacking leadership Richo aint one of them. Hall is a very good player and a key component of the Swans flag. If the tribunal was competent he should have cost them it through suspension for the jumper punch on Hughdon. Its noticeable how Hall has acted selfishly and Sydney has hit the skids. I wish MFC had a better culture but that not relevant here.

Conversely why does it necessarily mean he does "bleed for the the Club" when he woops it up at the breaks? I could name a number of player who do that. Pity is they bleed on their terms.

Saunt has a number of skills but he also combines them with some truly selfish behaviours which at times cost the team when he focusses on himself. Selfishness is an abhorrent quality when the actions of one player are undertaken to the detriment of the team. MFC has had some strident examples. You need to review what makes a full forward good these days. Selfishness is not a pre requisite
