Its Time to go.....

So I think the final 2 will be Carroll & Meesen, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bell, Wheatley and/or Robo go as well depending on how many kids Bailey wants.

Existing contracts may complicate things though, for example Melbourne may not be able to afford to delist Carroll. If that's the case Bell will most likely go if not contracted.

Carroll is contracted for '09 and stunningly, Meesen is contracted for '09 and '10.

If you were going to get rid of Bell, surely you'd look to a trade rather than a delisting wouldn't you?

22 year old with 60 gams of experience who has shown in patches he could be a good player.

Really? Well that sucks. I assume that means both of them stay next year.

I agree. He's gotta be worth something. And I guess anything is better than nothing.

Perhaps, I wouldn't imagine that we'd get much for him in return though. If he is traded then we'd have to find someone else to delist anyway.

I'd rather have an extra pick around 50 and that be our last, rather than use pick 90 to fill up our list.

If both Wona & Valenti are promoted that means we'll have to delist 8 to get 5 picks in the November draft (1,17,19,35 & 51). The final two delistings are what's causing the problems.

I guess the way around it would be to keep Wona & Valenti on the Rookie list for an extra season, not sure how they'd respond though.

We could trade for a pick, rather than a player.

Robertson looks like he'll be out for a significant part of next season as a LTI-list member, which gives scope for one of them to play while on the rookie list.

Wona must be a certainty to be uplifted this year. Not so sure with Valenti - looks ok in comparison with the rest of the side and is a workhorse, but we're bottom by two games with a percentage just over 60 so the comparison part doesn't really work in his favour. I doubt anyone else would pick him up either so a second year on the rookie list seems a likelihood.

I would expect Robertson rather than Whelan would be the 2nd player on the veterans list next year (10 years & 30+)

delist: weetra, bode

trade: newton, sylvia, bell, whelan, robbo

retire: yze white holland (neitz)

keep wheatley, mcdonald

Nugget, Nugget, Nugget - If Melbourne traded your list to be traded it would break the record for the most trades by a club in a single trade period. (Now listen for all those quickly doing a search on that stat)...

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
