It was great to find out some names today - now to hear the plan!

As a newcomer, I am curious to hear what members of the demonland community would be saying to the board this evening if they were in Jim's shoes.

What do you all think are the most pressing issues?

What needs improvement?

What would you do differently?

What would be your main strategic focus?

Any new ideas?

etc.

good topic....

Issue number 1- get a permanent training base. Sign the deal with Casey or find something else. Either way, get a signed agreement with some ground.

Issue 2- Get a permanent administrative home. I believe this is going to be next to Collingwood in the rectangular oval. That sounds great. Just make sure it gets done.

Issue 3- Make sure we have stability off the field. Having such a large turnover of staff is a sign of weakness of any business.

issue 4- Turn around our off-field financial situation

issue 5- Try to increase membership to 30,000 at the very least.

If these 5 issues were addressed, then the other clubs would have nothing to really bag us for. Atm they say we have no home, no money and stability. These things are fixable. once we turn these around, money will start to come in more freely and as a result performances onfield will no doubt be affected positively on-field.

I'm not up to speed with the new stadium, but did you say Collingwood is moving in????????????

I thought they had the Lexus centre or is that just their training base?

I thought this new facility was ours with the Storm and Netball team, how did Collingwood get in?

They're not moving in.

I think sylvinator was referring to the fact Collingwood will have a ground at the Olympic Park site which is between the site of the new stadium and the Lexus centre.

Maybe support the current staff of the MFC and allow PM to get on with his paid job of turning the club around.

Stynes should be having the sole focus of representing the board to the CEO. That means that the board make decisions regarding strategy and the CEO will then make that happen.

The 11th spot on the board may be reserved for the CEO. Whilst not something I would support, it is often the case that the CEO sits on the board.

Play games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Organise training at places where it is fan friendly and encourage supporters to attend. This has to be wirthin 5 kms of the city as often as possible.

Target schools in the traditional areas of support with players attendance.

Open an office/stand in the Bourke st mall or at the parliament end of bourke st where office workers without allegiance may get on Board.

Get Melbourne trams and the City of Melbourne as a sponsor/advertiser.

Front the traditional Melbourne clubs for support: Atheneum, Savage, Melbourne.

I agree..but good luck getting the friday night games.. we have no clout.

All fans are within 5 k's of city ? All fans work in city ? But as it happens Goschs paddock will conform to this.

But then which is more important.. facilities to train in..or fans ability to watch occasionally ?

Target schools in the traditional areas of support with players attendance.

Speak oh wise one...where exactly are these locations?

Whilst it seems a good idea..and in a way it is. Caution. The cost of provision may outweigh any gains.

Always wondered why more isnt done here. I mean..no other team has the name Melbourne ( AFL )

Front the traditional Melbourne clubs for support: Atheneum, Savage, Melbourne.

Like they are going to give a toss !! Those who do already support the club.

A few major issues (in no particular order):

* The 'angle' we take in 'selling' Melbourne

* Permanent 'home' admin/training facilities

+ summer training base?

* VFL affiliation

* Stadium deal / boutique stadium

That said, every aspect of how the footy club is run is important.

A typically weak as [censored] negative retort from a poster who has so much to comment on.

Which is interesting as he states he has never been to the dome and only goes to 5 mcg matches a year!

Keep up the good work.

Even though you have no experience in going to the footy, you could try to add something positive.

If you're going to pay out on footy fans who only manage to get to ~1/2 their Club's home games p/year, you're going to have a fair few in your sights!

I think some people lack an understanding for other people's situation etc. You might be able to make every game of the year, but not everyone can/wants to.

Particularly given our relatively small supporter base, I'd be trying to embrace all Melbourne fans, rather than deride those who you see as less involved than yourself.

In order of importance...

1. Negotiate a better home game deal with the MCC which is reflective of the two clubs history, ie. equally profitable, also negotiate to only operate two levels when playing home games against interstate sides

2. Secure Casey Fields agreement, secure a naming sponsor

3. Secure a new major sponsor

4. Prepare a new financial plan, lobby the AFL for financial assistance

5. Do not sign another deal to play home games in Canberra

6. Request every home game to be played at the MCG as well as away games against other MCG tenants

7. Sell the Bentleigh Club (if we even own it) and invest that money in Casey/footy department/reducing debt

8. Develop a new social club at Casey where supporters can watch interstate games on a big screen, do the same at the new stadium when complete

9. Become involved in Casey community events, provide players to promote events, clinics, school visits, weekly colum in the local newspaper, joint functions with the Scorpions

and most importantly...

10. Get in touch with every ex-player, member and ex-member and make it clear to them that the time is now. If they want the football club to not only survive but also prosper we need at least 30,000 members

Thanks for the memory. I still get a kick out of Bub's "Ohhhhh... Honestly"!

Good bump, play on!

Still, though you never revealed what you would do. Obviously the most pressing issue from here is obtaining the next major sponsor (well, get another sponsor so we have a major sponsor essentially) and ensure that our shocking record of staff turnover does not continue.

From there, I'm pretty confident with much of what has happened so far. Though next time we're up for sponsorship renewal, I hope it doesn't take over 4 months!

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
