I agree with dazzle. Making ridiculous, sensationalist claims that Bartram is a "goner" is not going to help the kid. There is plenty of upside with him. Why did Daniher, and now Bailey, play him so much?? Because he is a goer and more often than not he beats, or at least breaks even, with his man. His game on McLeod against Adelaide the other week was sensational (in a 70+ point losing side mind you!!). Give the guy a break!!

He's having a terrible season he needs some time at Sandy. He rely's on his fitness and is still on a modified program. If he plays like this next year it is time to worry he needs a big pre season and has to get back to being our no1 tagger.

I too thought the wraps on him in his first year were just a little over the top, he was simply a good first year player, not great. He will get his chance to prove himself this year and should not by any means be dropped to get form. He is a perfect example of one of many players that need to get more games under their belt. A lot of 1st year players who have a resonably good first year do struggle in their 2nd year(Davey for eg.) He may still be a very good player for us one day, just get some more games into him. There are at least 10 blokes on our list that we should be questioning their ability before this kid!

Claiming that any of Bartram's games this year have been 'sensational' are as ridiculous as writing him off at his early stage. I know I've been negative about him and suggesting that he's another version of Godfrey, but the one thing I missed in my positives is his age, he has time on his side to work on his weaknesses.

However let's not get carried away with his performances this year, sure he held Mcleod to a dozen touches but the following week he only got 8 against the Eagles which would suggest that it is just as likely that the reason for the poor game against us was a form slump, not the absolute brilliance of Bartram's negating skills. Building Bartram up like that will only end up with one ending, and that's disappointment because he will never be a sensational player. Handy tagger possibly, he may even develop into a genuine midfielder in his own right, but please can we not overstate his performance.

Claiming that someone has potential because Daniher played him alot is damning someone with faint praise, while I really don't see that Bailey has a choice, he has very few players capable of playing at AFL level to choose from.

Point taken, but people are judging him too harshly considering he has just returned from a serious knee injury which kept him to 1 game last year. And if his game on McLeod wasn't sensational, then it was very good. Form slumps have to start somewhere.

Is this some sort of mantra? Someone here has applied this to just about every player in our team in the last few weeks.

OK, let's not field a team against the Pies. We should forfeit the match, and just give all the players a run at Sandy to freshen them up and get their confidence back. :rolleyes:

bloody hell what is with these guys???

we have a thread bagging bartram and one on jones both kids.. if we had any senior players standing up taking the pressure off them and giving them the chance to develop they would have more "class" how can you expect the kids to preform when there roles models aren't? how do you think there confidence is affected when the senior players cant get it right.. lay off these kids and give them a fair go...

Miller i can understand , he is not a kid... but as we have no other options but to play these older guys we have to suck it up and put up with the losses,, and just watch for small improvements week in week out...

someone quoted bartel, ablett etc against these kids... hmmm dont remember there second season being blistering either.... but get 5 of 6 seasons into them and keep them all ogether instead of chopping and changing and you have a teammm well bonded and knowing how each other plays

The club is happy how Clint is progressing after his lay off. I have a feeling they will persist with him.

He is fully aware that his disposal is shocking and is working hard on it. As a kid who came from the TAC and straight into the senior team (pretty sure he hasn't played with Sandy) he's done ok. Although i hate to make comparisions...Matthew Bate had a couple of years at Sandy before he got a Senior game. I think that speaks volumes in developing a kid.

He has plenty of potential and time to develop.

Remember he the club drafted Sylvia at 3 and Brock at 5? Probably the best no 3 pick who has never showed anything. Thank god for Brock.

Persist with these kids like Bartram, Morton, Austin, Buckley, Valenti, Garland. They will probably not win us a flag but they will have a dip. Our premiership window will not re-open for some time.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
