  1. I don't mind going tall, but it means we have to move the ball FAST!!! Being tall won't help if we go slow and a third play can jump up and easily spoil every time... If we get 1v1's every forward will be taller than their opposition so the bomb could work! But we know it won't be fast movement of the ball, as that requires hard offensive running/playing on straight away which Melbourne doesn't do yet (SEN last night said Brisbane is plus 6km ish for handball receives [playing on], Melbourne is minus 2km lol [get ball handball backwards, get ball again handball backwards]). Also on Riley i am so far unimpressed, will judge him more next year after a pre-season. Positives are his tackling, negatives are his disposal and from what ive seen his desire to always try and run back into traffic when he first gets the ball.. Anyway hope we play well, go dees
  2. Roughly the 26 minute mark is when they talk about it: http://media.mytalk.com.au/3AW/AUDIO/200814SportsToday.mp3
  3. I felt that even if he was 100% right, hes not one of best players who should come back in. I wanted him to come back by the VFL. If he had of done that i wouldn't have been surprised if he also got a poor review in the VFL.. Roos should set the precedent, if injured you lose some form of conditioning so first game back is through VFL, then it may be sub in AFL then full game as an example. Obviously if it is for a superstar you might alter it, but Grimes isn't that.
  4. Last year Demetriou said installing the "four pillars" common at most highly successful clubs – a "strong and capable" chairman, chief executive, coach and captain – would make a far greater difference at Melbourne than any priority draft pick could. - Good by him! I thought i read somewhere also that if we were as bad again in 2014 then they (maybe opposition clubs/AFL) would be more likely to look positively on an application?
  5. I like to think about how the old priority pick rules relate to these new ones. Under the old rules we would have been given: a) pick 24 in 2012 (nathan wright - st kilda) b) pick 1 2013 (tom boyd) c) Pick 1 2014 (petracca??) I think we deserve pick 1 (we have been punished by the change in priority pick rules as it is).
  6. I wish viney could kick - i have noticed all year how bad his kicking is, i'd put him in the Frawley, Grimes, Mcdonald, terlich category of kicking skills. I really hope melbourne work on his kicking. I think i remember Nathan Jones being an average kick at first, but now he is much improved. Bring on next year
  7. Yep agree, I have a feeling its his work ethic/1% work ethic that get him the games (almost like rooseys favorite as he does the right things (e.g. shepherds/blocks etc).. but if you cant get the ball.. I really thought toumpas was unlucky..
  8. SEN just said melbourne applied for a priority pick this morning
  9. The only thing i am excited about is seeing hogan play next year. But if we can't kick how will he play well? Please recruit players who can kick and handball. I'll still buy a membership next year hope it turns around!
  10. The reverse could be a problem though. What if his touch is slightly off and we play him for 1-3 games when he isn't game ready (so gets crap stats).. For me personally hearing he is back i was over the moon, but if he had no impact i wouldn't be worried. These 1-3000 members on the other hand may go well hes no good im not signing up.. Either way im happy and trust in Roos. Clearly Jesse wants to play, hope the VFL guys do well by him.
  11. SEN just said as done deals (from two sms sources ): Jarrod Waite to North Melbourne at end of season. St Kilda pick 1 to GWS for tom Boyd. Both unreliable sources obviously. But interesting to hear and if true means GWS will have picks 1 & 2 (or 3 depending on our match this week).
  12. Why not go for all three. Isn't that what roos tries to do use one pick to get two players.. so why not 2 picks for three. Ried, Mitchell & Malceski for picks 3+4. That would be worthwhile (funny thing is i see the biggest/best impact coming from Malceski).
  13. That's really interesting to see. I was watching the replay this morning and i thought it popped up in the third quarter (maybe) that the disposal efficiency was 80% (hawks) 50-56% dees... May have been kicking efficiency now that i think on it..
  14. As roos said on 'roos views: Pederson (Inj), blease, terlich, tapscott (Inj) and Mackensie all out. Barry, Jones, Crossy, Michie and Gawn in.
  15. Hey Steve, Just watched Roosey's press conference on the MFC site and he mentioned that Hogan joined training today. Also did mention that if Jesse really wants to play this year then he would. Have a listen if have a chance
  16. Even if Boyd was available, Stkilda and Brisbane are both lower on the ladder and need a key forward.. Hence they can offer pick 1 or 2, we at best should be able to offer pick 3.. GWS won't take our pick 3/4/5 when it can get theirs.
  17. New article from the AFL website. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-07-08/how-much-is-frawley-worth
  18. I always felt that martin's only position was as first ruck and that he was actually very good at it. I remember when Jamar got injured for a chunk of a season and Martin had to be no1 ruck for the first time for entire matches and he florished (doing exactly what he has done for 5 matches in brissy - with brisbanes ruckman all injured), but then when Jamar was fit again he was an auto in (hence Martin diminished and became inconsistent again). But at the time i felt that he was better than Jamar in the no1 position and i was suprised Jamar was an auto inclusion back in. ANyway it's in the past and this is how i still feel.
  19. Yea i remember one where we had a clearance forward of centre (think it was a quick snap into the forward line) and dawes completely miss-read it thinking it was going to go 40-50 m when it went about 30, so he started to go backwards and his opponent went forwards and he only just made the spoil in time.
  20. It could be part of it RPFC, maybe also more pressure on the ball carrier kicking for goal. But i remember Edwards for richmond kicking 1.3 or 0.3 from general play in-front and missing all when he should have kicked them all, contrast that with bontempelli and his floater .
  21. I think he is pretty good one v one, sure he doesnt mark it much (maybe 10% of the time), but (especially when he first came in) he never lost the contest and usually brings it to ground for our small crumbing forwards to run onto (oh wait we don't really have any that are playing well or in the team). Agree, that when he gets some space on the lead (e.g. push off and lead hard) he is very good, but it might also be our slow play and our poorer kicks putting it on-top of his head/not to advantage.
  22. Yep agree - we are turning the corner, BUT we also have to consider the oppositions inaccuracies in-front of goal.. the only wins this year have been when the opposition has kicked awfully Carlton 7.16 Richmond 9.20 Essendon 10.17 Adelaide 9.13 The only game we really should have won by having more scoring shots was the saints game (6.15). We are improving but we still have a long way to go.
  23. From Casey thread: Thanks KC, On this five possible inclusions based on Dream team (DT) points: JKH - 131 DT points Tappy - 100 DT points Blease - 99 DT points Fitzy - 93 DT points Georgio - 93 DT points Viv's DT points disapointing (E.g. Harmes is doing much better). I'd say, JKH, Georgio and one of Blease/tappy are all a good chance. BUT: i think only 2 changes will be made, & Mckenzie will probably come back in (unless roos puts him back in the VFL first).. If we need a defender then Georgio is a lock, otherwise i'd say JKH is the only certainty..
  24. Agreed as per Queens bday clashes, but like to say i felt there was at least a 50/50 ratio there, i was very disapointed that another 10k collingwood supporters didn't show up.
  25. Frawley is fast for a big bloke - sub 3sec 20m sprint test (2.98sec) was a highlight of his performance at the draft back in the day (source: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2006-11-23/phantom-draft-vii-2006-phantom-afl-draft). That is one asset i don't think our current backmen have. Especially when one out in the goal square, none really have that closing down raw speed (e.g. Mcdonald against Nth when left one out). Something to consider..
