  1. Nick maxwell: sheil or trelor (one of the two) will be leaving at the end of the year (from little conversations he has heard). Reported on game day. (Not sure where to report) probably unlikely we will get either of them anyway!
  2. Is he big enough to play there yet? I just see him as undersized (although he is great 1v1 against similar sized guys) and feel we need a dominant big bodied mid (Kennedy/Fyfe/danger sized) to then take the pressure off the rest. Petracca may be it for us (jones said he's most excited about him on game day a few weeks back (more so than hogan), and preseason made the call about the size of him in an interview. But that is for next year onwards. Since Kent went down we've lost our explosive run from defence to the forward line & have nothing to replace it with (jkh is agile but not fast). I just hope we compete next week! Ps didn't petracca just sign a contract extension or was about to?
  3. Nick maxwell on game day said Herbie is in trouble.. "We don't want people going in with their hips first" or some such. May be another forced change. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets off or if he gets weeks (stupid match review panel)!
  4. Yep this thread is everything I'm still excited about. He was my one reason for going this week. If he wasn't there my motivation would be shot! Loved his second half, felt ted Richards gave him a lesson in the first half (it was almost like we were trying to kick it to ted not hogan.. Always to teds advantage). But hogans marks and goals made me happy (especially that one handed one ! Also it seemed that not once did we kick it out from a point to him even when open.. Seemed a little weird considering that he is the best contested mark in the league at this stage.. My guess is they either don't see him, lack confidence or purposely ignore him as they want him to be the next link in the chain? Bring on the Hawks next week !!
  5. I can see Gawn coming in for pederson. We leave him at full forward and hope he takes the same number of marks as he did in the vfl. Plus hogan and Dawes then get the second and third defender and we subsequently don't get mauled in the ruck when resting spencer. If Dawes doesn't pull up more reason too. Will Tyson play the year with his knee? Viney and Jetta would be great ins (not sure for who - quite a few treading water) From watching the game we looked a little slow with our decision making. Had the overlap and needed to pull the trigger and help the play up instead.
  6. I think we just pretend that match never happened!! It's will be another 2 years of good drafting before our vfl team has afl standard players. Oh well looking forward to the game tonight ! Go dees!
  7. Completely agree too! Young guys have time but non of our afl guys are ever going to take us anywhere from the looks of it unfortunately!
  8. Interesting that Nev is this, I just presumed he wouldn't be as delisted (he wont leave anyway so not worried). Add Terlich to that list of awesomeness..
  9. And if they both come in you would think the toump would be the one out (so is a little like Mckenzie in last week) & likely stretch unless he kills it as the sub. I'm excited either way, hope we play hard 1v1 footy go dees! Ps grimes is stiff, but a lot said he was only on Ballantine for <1 quarter (so if he was on a mayne etc then he didn't do as well.
  10. http://www.sen.com.au/news/05-15/marsh-revenue-sharing-a-key-issue-the-afl-must-address Good chat about it in link
  11. I think equalization will happen at a fair level eventually, but Eddie and co will influence the decision at the start and it will take years to actually get to this 30-50% level. Glad the players association did something good for the AFL.
  12. I am still suprised that Roos wanted to play 1 lose in defense & let it continue for the whole match. I really enjoy watching us playing 1v1 hard footy! I'm sure there was a reason for it in the first quarter (e.g. they had 7 defenders), but i felt that they controlled the game as a result. Hopefully back to 1v1 next week Go Dees!
  13. I wonder if playing in the ruck re-agrevated Dawes' calf last week? in the ruck you need to jump which dawes rarely does, he wrestles the majority of the time (so a more unusual movement for him etc). So even if he is back/not back, id bring in Gawn either way (prefer him over most of the midfielders at Casey). Furthermore, Clark monstered Pederson (not his fault that clark is very athletic) and tippet is a lazy 200cm and could do the same. Even though Gawn hasn't been in the best form in the VFL, he is getting lots of opportunities (7 shots at goal last week [or week before for 1.6 & 1 out on the full], & i think its was 3.1 this week). Plus if he comes in we can get some more structure up forward with Gawn, Hogan and Garlett. We lose out on forward defensive pressure, but how much did we have this week? (did we start the game with a spare in defence? i really liked the first 3 rounds playing 1v1, not sure why we let freo have the spare - 100 uncontested possessions more at 3QT to freo pretty much summed up who won on that decision). Likely Outs: Salem (concussion), if i was to drop anyone it would be McKenzie (really looked like a dear caught in the headlights - didn't want the ball, didn't want to run with the ball (just not how he plays), and when he did run with it (last 30 seconds) nearly kicked it out of bounds with Garlett leading 20m in clear right at him [probably different if he had of kicked it, but he didn't]). Really happy with Grimes' game. Watts confuses me, maybe have him as sub (that way we dont have a mckenzie as sub situation). Watts to Sub. McKenzie out for Gawn. No idea who comes in for Salem (seems he & Jetta is likely to miss another)? Rough team (jetta back would be perfect for that spot): B Colin Garland, Tom McDonald, Jeremy Howe HB Christian Salem____???, Lynden Dunn, Jack Grimes C Heritier Lumumba, Bernie Vince, Daniel Cross HF Jeff Garlett, Jesse Hogan, Jay Kennedy-Harris F Jack Watts, Cameron Pedersen, Max Gawn, Angus Brayshaw Fol Mark Jamar, Nathan Jones, Aaron Vandenberg I/C Dom Tyson, Ben Newton, Viv Michie Sub Jordie McKenzie Jack Watts
  14. Watts is better than any player we bring up from the vfl, but his intensity at the ball is still disappointing. How' about we play him as sub? Or we actually use him more.. E.g. most kick outs I couldn't help but think watts by himself on one side of the 50 on an opposition player 10-30cm smaller than him would be a great opportunity to kick to him and hope he either marks it or gets a free.. I could see that being a "Fyfe" like bail out kick.. But the few times he was in this situation no1 kicked it to him.. It would give him confidence and help the team as he is a great kick.. Thoughts?
  15. Wow at watts lack of effort. That last play his guy was double the distance he was to the ball and the guy tackles him as he picks up the ball... Get some fin intensity watts.. Killing me! So disappointed right now with him.
  16. I wonder who will be sub. I hope it's Mckenzie.
  17. I think Jordie was picked purely because he is defensively sound and has the best endurance of all the players left from to choose. I have a feeling he will do better than about 5 other guys in the team if he plays the whole match.
  18. In regards to ruckmen lets recruit one of these new international rookie basketballers (212cm guy anyone? or the guy who nearly broke the all time 20m record). http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-04-30/basketballer-records-nearrecord-sprint-time-at-us-combine
  19. Yea st kilda were ahead of us in the pre-season and now we are 2k members ahead of them. Also still ahead of the Doggies too ! But Richmond and co are still way ahead of us (Richmond 68k - i thought it was about 3-1 richmond supporters there last week, no wonder)!!
  20. I love the idea of it haha (even though it likely wouldn't work as you have pointed out). Terlich gets lost too easily, does a tom mcdonald run from defense, turns the ball over and cant find his man, he is hard though (like pig dog). Who in our VFL side is actually a very good kick of the ball?? is anyone? Bring that person in.
  21. Hard to tell who to bring in for Tyson if he doesn't come up.. Freo are a very hard and a very good spreading team. Pig dog has the hardness, but he doesn't have the spread/endurance from what little i have seen of him. I think we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel at the moment, the true AFL depth isn't there - what is has bits and peices of an AFL player, but none have the true complete package. Whats Michie's endurance like (hope he goes well again, do a world of good for his confidence)? I still like the idea of stretch as the sub, from the sounds of it he has the endurance and spread as well as more polish than most in the VFL (looks angrily at recruiters from past). Go dees
  22. I'd prefer to play a quality backman than a ruckman who plays back on a forward. Eg sandi rests forward and we put the backup ruckman on him? Or bring in Fitzpatrick? he will monster either anyway. But a McDonald playing on him who can run jump and spoil would in my mind be a smarter decision.. He would then run off him and create. He wouldn't get sucked into a 1v1 duel. Similar to us bringing in Gawn. I see that as a negative when forward as they have the quality backman to not only defend him but run off him (even though they are 10cm smaller.
  23. "So their continued absence is hardly going to leave us worse off" that to me sounds like he was talking about next week (not fri night) & and my reply was in regards to next week too. So I think he was saying that we can cover Kent and Jetta easily (vs freo) because they contributed little, but we can't cover Tyson (if he doesn't play). That's how I read it and I replied in reference to that. I think you think I'm talking about Friday nights game. I'm not. But I see how it can be confused. Go dees
