  1. Apparently at the start of the year the Bombers were contacted by a newspaper saying they were going to run the story. Their response was do it and we will sue. Their response to the 'guinea pig allegations' on the weekend was to simply release a press statement. How times have changed. If the players had been injected once, you might buy their story. Up to 30,40 times........strip the brownlow, strip the points and Bomber and Hird must go. Too many double standards.
  2. Sorry Nasher I have been meaning to reply to you , just had a hectic couple of days. With regards to making 'business sense' I didn't read/see in any great detail the pitch put forward by the Tassie consortium but listening to Tim Lane being interviewed at the time, he seemed confident that they had ticked many of the boxes the AFL was wanting to see filled. The Tasmanian government was going to be the major sponsor. I think he also realised that GWS was a done deal but it was important for them to have their say. If a team was to relocate/start fresh I think the AFL would be banking on the next generation of supporters following the new club. It's good to hear you say you wouldn't change allegiance, that's how it should be. I was born in Melbourne, spent a couple of years in Tassie playing footy at Burnie High School, before moving to Brisbane then back to Melbourne but now living in Sydney. My love for the Dees has never wavered. I think Tassie saying we want one team playing 8 games rather than 2 teams playing 4 is there way of saying 'give us our team' . In years to come it may be the only way for the Bulldogs to survive. Time will tell.
  3. Tassie deserves its own side, expansion was always on the cards. 18 clubs is the limit, can only stretch the talent so far. GC and GWS had to happen first in the eyes of the far controller due to other codes moving in. Tassie has always been an AFL state and has been pushing for its own team for years. If the western bulldogs were in our shoes now would they be given the North/GC treatment/offer?? Move now and all debts will be cleared ,$$$$ + picks + we will build you a new stadium. The MCG is our home and we need to put the dogs to the sword there this weekend. Hawthorns and Norths cameo appearances in the apple isle is appreciated but has probably only fuelled there want for a stand alone team. Its only a matter of time before there are nine clubs in Melbourne with the tenth relocating. We appear to be safe, the dogs or north may not be so lucky.
  4. Funny how he was happy to answer questions last night but couldn't today because its an ongoing investigation. Also weren't clubs/players given two options when the story first broke. Come clean now and cop this much or play your games , still get caught and cop extra.
  5. Hawks - buddy rough gunstonEagles - Kennedy darling cox/niknat lecra Dees - Mitch Dawes hogan watts It's actually bloody brilliant. There not all going to start in the goal square. I think it was a Collingwood games a couple of years ago, fullback kicked to Brown who kicked to Dawes who kicked to Cloke who kicked a goal. Ball was moved faster up the ground then anyone could run. We know we need mids, we picked up Viney and Toumpas in the draft and will look to use this years picks on mids.
  6. Low money being the key. Now with 18 clubs the talent pool gets thinner. If Frawley was fit would he have played? How are these players doing at the moment- Morton , Pettard, Stef Martin, Hudson, Knights, R Warnock. Some work , some don't , but coaches/ clubs back themselves to try and turn careers around. On the flipside if you have so many talented players unable to get a game because they are your clubs fourth choice defender but might be another clubs second choice they will walk. The only thing puzzling is the length of the contract.
  7. I use the other club theory. Example 1- equalisation : Geelongs star players agreed to $500k to keep the list together. I'm guessing that may have been relaxed in order to keep Taylor, plus Scarlett, Harley , Ling , Ablett are no longer there. Example 2 - marque player: Hawks reportedly have offered Buddy a mill per year , plus must be paying good money for Cyril, Roughy, Hodge, Mitchell. Next bracket Sewell , Lewis ect. Then recruits like Hale and Lake sign for less to play finals. These figures are speculation, we have Mitch on 700k, Dawes on 500k, Davey coming off a 500k contract. Even if we only pay 92.5% of the cap who are we paying the money to? I thought the 3 Jacks had their contracts front loaded so to avoid problems with out supposed superstar list?? Has Watts already taken home big coin and the next contract is to be more modest?.
  8. Port finished minor premiers a couple of years in a row, couldn't win a final, then won the lot. This during a time when possibly the greatest team ever was up and about in the Brisbane Lions. Can't remember who but someone made the point last week the year Port was flogged in the GF by the Cats that 'Williams has coached the players beyond their capabiltys' . It terms of talent/star players Cats were miles ahead. After the Lions lost their fourth attempt they started drifting south on the ladder. Leigh Mathews had taken his list as far as he could and didn't want to stay for the list turnover, Port also needed a new voice. As we know there can only be one winner and now it's harder with 18 clubs. I think you're right about Eade, but Williams has the runs on the board. As we know he is having a huge influence at Richmond as he did at GWS. If not Roos then we should get Choco.
  9. Or on tv or Facebook. As much as its not right it's the world we live in.
  10. Fair call, but would the case be reopened unless there was new evidence worthy of a trial?
  11. Well I just $100 on the Dee's at $7.50 against the Saints. Winnable game IMO.
  12. We have money, if he chooses to leave for a chance to play finals you would he would be playing for less. We can't be held to ransom. Never fulfilled his potential. Considering the state of our list Davey on a one year deal would be a smart move.
  13. I agree with your last line. We know he's a depth player , all he has to to is spoil/ tackle Cloke. Sounds easy, but if he can limit his impact he's done his job.
  14. Great post Rusty, as I mentioned 1 page back I live in Sydney for work so at least you guys get to see them. I just got told I'm working queens birthday in the Hunter so this week will probably be my only live game this year. Some will joke I'm not missing much. We must STICK FAT.
  15. I'm not the only person thinking it. Another untried coach could spell the end. They don't just throw cash around, they will send in their people to train/guide with ghd hope all clubs can become self sufficient.
  16. I like the idea of cross . At least he knows how to win it.
  17. I've supported Melbourne all my life whilst living up and down the east coast including many years in Queensland. I returned to Melbourne 9 years ago and took out a Redleg membership, just under 4 years ago I moved to Sydney for work but have kept the membership. The first two years I was able to fly back for 4-5 games, last year due to work commitments I couldn't attend any. I was told on Friday last week to pack my bags for two weeks work in Melbourne, the first thing I did when I got home was to grab my membership card and scarf out of the cupboard. Yes we are currently [censored], but at least you guys get to see the [censored] live at the G. I can't wait to go this Sunday against the hawks and in two Mondays against the pies. I'm not expecting to see us win but I want to see the likes of Terlich and M Jones play. If any of you have been to Cronulla there's one pub there called Northies, it has a poor excuse of a sports bar, but when I home and the Dee's are on the box I'm in there. On the big projector is the league and the commentry coming through the speakers but on one of the small tv's in the corner is the AFL with the volume down and me drinking coopers pale ale making more noise then the rest of the bar. People often come over to look to see what all the noise is about. Most of us want Neeld gone but not the club, not attending games is not the way to go. Why not go but when the effort of players is not there stand and turn your back to the game. If a whole section of supporters did that in unison that would have a greater impact. These may be the only two games I get to see this year so I'm there.
