The Need For Quality Mids
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Demon_Tingles's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's one of those things, Watts whilst showing glimpses has been disappointing. If he asks to be traded to Carlton we will be asking for their first pick. That would be based more on potential. If that was to occur it could be used as part of a deal for Swallow. I'm happy to trade pick 2, may not be for Swallow, depends on the whole deal. I think we should throw massive money at a 22-24 year old mid. Sydney has plenty on the books plus Mitchell and Jack2 coming through. Yes I know it would be near impossible to prize one away but that's why we load up the offer. Mitch is our Buddy/Cloke and his contract is at least half over(did he sign for 3 or 4?) offer Kieren Jack 4 years at 750k a year. Most likely never happen but we should be in a position to do something similar to that because as I keep asking, which players are draining our cap. Lets be bold, in a few years we will have to be conservative with our cap but at the moment lets target some mids and front load them. -

Agree mate, but I can't see ASADA/WADA buying into their story. I would have thought in a large organisation even what protein shakes players drink are recorded. I work in construction and failed a drug test, we soon discovered that a pre gym workout drink I had taken shared key ingredients of some party drugs. This triggered off the test. When I contacted the store they told me professional sports people are not permitted to take it. All that for a $70 tub from my local health store. In order for Essendon to see if their program was beneficial, record keeping would be essential. 40 + players x numerous substances. -

The Need For Quality Mids

My bad, I thought I read somewhere he was from Melbourne. It may have been wants to be closer to his brother and I put 2 and 2 together. -
Had similar thoughts about Sylvia a couple of years back. We have Hogan coming in and are desperate for mids. If traded yes he will have some good games for his new club but his lack of appetite for contact will always hold him back.

THE CONTRACTS THREAD [with updates]
Bombay Airconditioning replied to rpfc's topic in Melbourne Demons
Norm Smiths Curse- I agree with most of your list. You say bottom out for a year, well we can't go much lower. Plus some of the 15 names you've mentioned haven't played much this year. If Watts is determined to go to Carlton if must not be for Yarren. Their first round pick plus a swap of other picks. I'm not banking on a priority pick, I would have no hesitation trading our early picks. 18 clubs makes it all the hader. -

We have Watts, pick 2 and plenty of cash. I wish trades were like that in American sport, clubs can dictate the destination of traded players. We know Swallow wants to come home, North have some great young mids but would money be enough of a reason to come across.....probably not. -
No mate, got plenty on the plate already. Just been thinking, Davey frees up big coin, Mitch has 1 year left to go. Assuming he resigns it will be for less. Dawes is on 500k(rumoured), we need to offer Chip a big contract. Looking at sides like Geelong, Hawks and Collingwood , we must have plenty of room to move. We need to make a big play for someone, pay overs if needed. I think in a couple of years our as the next generation come through - Viney, Toumpas , Hogan ect our cap will even itself out but now we must have plenty of room to move. Identify a mid/s then make a dream offer.
-
They are big if's , but if we could land Sallow and one other. Trade Watts and pick 2 if needed. Getting full seasons out of Mitch and Dawes. A change of captaincy to allow both Jacks to concentrate on their footy, they have tried but to fair are probably out of their depth.

Wish someone would leak our salary cap. Would love to see the breakdown.

Had the game on the radio, lots of talk about lack of intensity. We got touched up yet only laid six more tackles. Looking forward to seeing our forward line up and running next year.

Add to that destruction of evidence. No record were kept they keep saying. Yes we all want this resolved but I'm not a fan of cutting deals. I thought it had to go before the commission. If the chief lets them off cheaply he can go and he can take the bloody match review panel with him. -

Slightly off topic but not worth starting a new thread. North look set to do what they couldn't earlier this year, that is put the Hawks away. Should the Bombers be stripped of points and North are elevated, it will give the finals a massive shake up. A likely elimination final against the pies week 1. Might be worth a punt. -
I tend to agree, we have the makings of a backline, Terlich was a good pick up needs some work. We're all hoping the forward line gets on the park next year. Still need a small forward, hopefully not Yarren. I would offer up our early picks , Watts and Sylvia if the right deals present themselves to improve our midfield. There is some talent, that is evident but we are mentally defeated.

Choco has a better footy brain than Neeld. I have no doubts Neeld has made/ will make a competent assistant but the big gig was too much. -

Any points must be next years, they must be made to understand. Yes I understand what that means but what they have done warrants it. The team is shot this year, 2013 points mean nothing. -

The culture instilled by Choco? I've been saying for weeks to drop Watts, but if we do that we might upset him and he will want out. That's been our problem everyone's to afraid of upsetting someone. It's a tough game, weeds must be removed. -

I never said it must work but it can work. Bulldogs is another example. Coaches that don't tolerate soft / non existent performances from players. Get Choco. -

AFL DRAFT Phantom Form Guide

I wrote in the Aish thread earlier tonight. Kids from SA and WA were seen as ready made because they currently play against men. Gibbs, Trenners?? Myth busted. Josh Kelly looks a goer. We need to steal notes from Geelongs recruiter.
