I loved that piece of play.

YESSS.. Dom Barry my boy.

I agree. We've dropped a few games by less than 25 points this year. An argument could easily be made that Clark and Hogan would bridge that gap. Now we are relying on Kent, we'll be buggered if he goes down.

The NZ government got it right. Whenever an industry puts money before the game, then an argument could be made that it is for other purposes - money, entertainment, etc. Clearly the AFL have compromised the purity of the sport, by monetising it. The draw itself is based around TV rights and popularity. This whole equalisation debate cannot even be solved. Because here is the thing, the AFL is a money making machine, and it has ruined the game in order in order to get rich. Now people expect the AFL will equalise the very game it ruined, it's laughable.. All the AFL will do is try and equalise the money generated from stuffing up the game. Maybe the AFL is adapting with the times and it is neccessary, that is for more learned people than I to judge. But the way I see it, the only way to equalise the game is to let the game dictate business - as opposed to business dictating the direction of the game.

Players to target at the end of the year
ThreeOneSix replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
At his best, O'Keefe is a level above Cross - who has been one of our better players this year. Ryan O'Keefe was a level above Vince and probably still is. He'd be a good pick up. -
Watts, Scully, Cook, Morton, Toumpas, Blease, Strauss. A lot of outside/athletic types at a time when MFC needed to get the football. When the club needed to make a stand it drafted kids who were never going to get the football. We taken risky players when we had safe choices to make - and choices that filled our needs. I'd of taken Daniel Rich ahead of Watts, Martin ahead of Scully and Wines ahead of Toumpas. Morton was a laughable pick, he had a booming kick in under 18's, but MFC must've anticipated him kicking them from the centre square. Strauss was a one paced outside type who hadn't shown much. Cook surprised making the AA squad and was just ridiculous to select where he was. There was nothing wrong with Jack Darling... Also in their draft years, there was nothing wrong with Vic Metro captain Parker - or Shuey. There was nothing wrong with Rory Sloane, these guys give their heart and soul in juniors and represented something even back then. MFC instead drafted stick figures and project picks. Luck has played no part. Athletic stick figures and outside skirt riders aren't going to get you wins - hence why we are still tailing out every year.

Players to target at the end of the year

We should get a couple good years, O'Keefe isn't even nearly done. He'll help our kids. Hopefully we land him, does the 1% plays. -
Had we of chose the right players, there wouldn't be much talk of culture. Dustin Martin had a good year in an ordinary side, Tommy Rockliff made a career of it. Players like Scully haven't exactly kicked on because he was ordinary to begin with.
-
We are pretty ordinary. I think St Kilda and us.
-
I vote 1 for I could not care less. Finish last, get Petracca and sit pretty with Frawleys compo. I was always a fan of our tanking efforts. Over the years I've seen many sides tank, none better than Collingwood and West Coast.

I think it's a combination of Sylvia not working hard, losing interest and not being suited to Fremantles style of football. With Ballantyne back in and Walters probably nearing a return - Colin might've played his last game this year.

O'Keefe will still play another 2 years, he is a natural footballer who apparently lives a VERY clean lifestyle. Having guys like Cross and O'Keefe on our list, is our way of teaching kids an AFL way of life - like Ablett does on the GC. We need to fast track our youth, having older heads around is essential. -

O'Rourke has good skills, can find the football and moves really well. I think he'd be a handy addition to MFC, but I wouldn't be giving away an early pick for him. If GWS could come up with a suitable deal, where we get O'Rourke and a top 10 pick - then they can have our Frawley compo. -
Is Roosy's son going to be drafted?
-
No, they'd want our first rounder. And.. They aren't getting it for Tomlinson.
-
If we enquired with Sydney about Mitchell and they agreed that pick 11 would get seal the deal with Mitchell, then we should look at trading 3 for 11 and 15. Ahern, Laverde would be my picks with 15, but most likely they'll be gone.. But with players like Goddard touted to slip, maybe a quality player can sneak through to 15.

Good on Viney.. Mackie is a [censored] and Selwood receives enough special treatment off the umpires. Football isn't a tickling contest.

Wines ahead of Viney by quite a margin. That isn't a slight on Viney, he was injured much of last year. I think Jack Viney needs to work on slowing his game down at times. McRae finds a lot of space, because he isn't rushed, same as Bontempelli. -
Malceski is one of the best kicks in the comp. Jack Grimes is one of the worst kicks in the comp. If we could get Malceski for a few years, we'd be a FAR better side. But we'd have to organise a trade.

I agree.. I think both Plowman and O'Rourke will be good players. I hope the club can arrange a Tyson type trade, where our risk isn't great if they bust. -

O'Rourke or Plowman would be good as steak knives in a deal. -
Just a reflection of the organisation. The AFL is built around lies and manipulation. They are the fundamentals of every greedy organisation.
-
If Mitchell is open for trade, then we'll have a better pick than Carlton. Players don't always get to their desired destination. Sydney would be eager for Petracca or Brayshaw I'd imagine.

I wouldn't give up pick 4 for Tomlinson. Be good to land Shiel. The AFL would step in before Cameron left GWS - they'd make it worth him staying. -
As great as I think Kelly will be. Tyson has the runs on the board, so it's hard to say Kelly will ever pass him. Results matter and Dom is probably close to leading our B&F. We are miles ahead in this trade.
