  1. Yeah I read that. I thought Richardson let slip a bit as well. He mentioned that taking McCartin removes the risk of not being able to find that forward down the track - and also says the Saints are keen to get a forward in besides Riewoldt. First solid indication I've heard that there might be substance to these rumors about McCartin going 1.
  2. If he is up to it, I'd play him round 1. This isn't a young Jack Watts we are talking about.
  3. McCartin is more of a footballer than Darling. Jack Darling is an athlete - and a VERY good one. But judging solely from a football perspective, McCartin has superior hands to Darling and much better football smarts. Darling is just big and quick, but he lacks brains and is a bit rigid under the ball - we won't have that problem with McCartin.
  4. If we enquired with Sydney about Mitchell and they agreed that pick 11 would get seal the deal with Mitchell, then we should look at trading 3 for 11 and 15. Ahern, Laverde would be my picks with 15, but most likely they'll be gone.. But with players like Goddard touted to slip, maybe a quality player can sneak through to 15.
  5. I hope so.
  6. Toumpas is mentally weak and not cut out to play AFL football - at least not for MFC. Maybe in a top side he'd be a really good player, but mentally it's too much for him at Melbourne. It does happen to some players and recruiters need to look on a psychological level - as well as externally. We missed Ollie Wines and that will continue to be a shame, but we need to look forward and identify players who will take us forward. Really happy with both Jones, Terlich, Viney, these types run a different mind set to a lot of our other blokes. And, we didn't pick Toumpas to get nursed through the VFL, if he isn't up to it, then he won't be after a stint in the VFL. What happened to Gysberts, Cook, Morton, Strauss? They were soft and no matter how much VFL they played - they were never up to it. Melbourne football club pick soft players and I don't care if others defend some of them, I can't defend some players anymore, they are not up to it, Toumpas is one.
  7. MFC like soft players. I'd float Toumpas up for trade at years end. I don't care what anyone says, I see nothing in Toumpas or Trengove, nothing. When we are in desperate need for footballers, the club drafts Strauss, Gysberts, Cook and then Toumpas. WE NEED FOOTBALLERS for christs sakes!!! That is what is wrong with this club, we are still paying for messing up those picks..
  8. A fair comparison for Tom Mitchell would be Jack Viney next year. I'd expect Jack Viney will be doing what Mitchell is doing now - next year.
  9. Just like supporters are also smart enough to see that we draft outside players - instead of inside types who actually go in and get the ball. Supporters aren't silly, we have to watch the Cale Mortons and Jordan Gysberts' year after year, when we could have the Dangerfields and other great players. We have to watch the Dustins Martins and Ollies WInes go around dominating the competition when they were exactly what we needed at the time. MFC drafters seem to have the mentality that they need a Chris Judd type player, when there are usually an abundance of Selwood types on offer, which is what we've needed the past decade. After years of talking down Dustin Martin, I guess now it's Dees fans to talk down Ollie Wines, but it's not Martin or Wines fault they are absolute guns.
  10. Viney is hopefully going to be very good. But on what we've seen of Wines, nothing suggests he is below Jack in any area. Viney is more explosive, but Wines is bigger, stronger and there is nothing wrong with his skills. Ollie has the points on the board, Dees fans only knock him because we haven't got him. That is not Ollie Wines fault, he also had a strong desire to play for the MFC. I much prefer Wines Vs Viney comparisons though, than Wines Vs Toumpas. Viney has shown that he might catch and surpass Ollie eventually, but Toumpas hasn't shown that.
  11. Yeah I do agree with you 100%. But, Toumpas did have a limited pre-season, had injuries coming in he was recovering from and has a weak core atm. So, he'll no doubt improve next year after a full pre-season. Still, I do bag the kid a bit myself and understand why others do, as he didn't even get a kick last week, which simply isn't good enough, lets be honest and not make excuses. Like most, I really hope Toumpas can turn it around today, he comes across as an absolute ripping young kid. As far as their draft year goes, I think Wines and O'Meara are standouts and if Toumpas eventually ends up just under those freaks, we'll be stoked.
  12. I am saying people get caught up in draft postions, which in reality doesn't mean much - it certainly doesn't add anything to the players tool bag, it's just a number. Wines - like Dustin Martin - had better form leading into the draft than their counter parts, Sidebottom is another one, all dual sided, win their own ball players. IMO both Martin, Sidebottom and Wines will be absolute stars and all went later than they should have. When you compare players in the mould of Wines, they succeed more than outside flankers that we seem hell bent on stock piling at our club.
  13. Either way, surprise picks, when people call it facts that Toumpas would go before Wines in the opinion of every recruiter, that is pathetic. It's new ground for Demonland. Anyway, it's a Jimmy Toumpas thread, so i'll leave it alone, might pop back for an update after the Casey game.
  14. You can't definitively say that. Considering Ploughman went at 2 and wasn't even touted top 5, how would you know what other clubs are thinking? Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read in demonland to be honest. Wines had a better year than Toumpas, FACT. But, I will go back to what I said earlier, it's pointless comparing the two players against each other. I'm a Melbourne fan after all and I'd rather realistic comparisons.
  15. There is no comparison between Wines or Toumpas. People get caught up in draft positions, but Wines was head and shoulders above Toumpas in 2012 under 18's and still is. Nothing changes and players don't miraculously become better because they were picked top 3. We should get away from these comparisons when it comes to Wines Vs Toumpas and just let their results speak for themselves. I agree with one of the above posters about the MFC picking mentally weak kids, I guess we should be grateful that Viney was father son, but he is the opposite type of player that the MFC draft.
  16. He looked like he was about to burst into tears, certainly an emotional lad is Jim. But, if I ever had a game like that, I'd probably be feeling the same. From an observation point of view though, Toumpas shouldn't be playing AFL, he isn't up to it and needs to go back to Casey for the rest of the year. There is little doubt that the kid has all the tools to make it further down the track in AFL, but at present he is a very long way away from being an AFL player. Hopefully Craig sends him back to Casey and just let's Jimmy play without pressure and continue to improve his football. One thing in my opinion that has worked against Toumpas this year is that he has a very weak core - probably due to his hip injury and limited pre-season. So, next year we should see a much improved player, providing we can get a pre-season into him.
  17. Bit harsh to lump Kent in with Toumpas, at least Kent has a dip.
  18. If Ricciuto reckons Toumpas is going to be a star, then take it to the bank. Good game by Toumpas today.
  19. Judging by the build on him, he'd be a monty to be picked up by the MFC.
  20. It doesn't really matter if the Bullies end up below us as they will take Boyd - they need Boyd more than anything. We don't really need Boyd, we need Scharenberg, he'd be a good fit. Have a feeling we'll go with Kelly though, apparently we really liked him last year and were going to use our mini pick on him. But, in saying that, Kelly is a bit thin and we don't really have the luxury of developing those types anymore.
  21. Plenty more quality players than Dunstan in this upcoming draft. Taking Dunstan at 2 would be a shock to most.
  22. I like that Toumpas is different to most other draftees killing it atm. Most are inside beasts, which is great, they are competitive guns mostly. But Toumpas is more of an outside player and I haven't seen him not hit a target. He will give us run, carry and accurate disposal going inside and outside of 50. That is a very handy weapon to have. Started his career being a bit soft, but careers don't just consist of a few games, thankfully. These kids don't have it easy anyway, there is a lot of pressure on them - without even thinking of nerves, etc.
  23. It's refreshing to read a positive thread about Toumpas. He played well on the weekend and continues to improve. One of Demonlands favorites for all the right reasons, well done Jimmy.
  24. Anyone who can direct Watts where to run gets my vote, well done Jimmy.
