  1. Frawley was a solid and reliable defender. But he was a limited footballer, a poor kick and an average decision maker. The Dunn Show managed to surpass Frawley in the space of a year, I'd take Dunn before Frawley. To lose Frawley and pick up Brayshaw is a magnificant result. MFC has been fortunate, luck fell our way when GWS taken Scully off our hands as well.
  2. I can just see it now, Essendon getting off, Hird facing the media preaching Essendon had done nothing wrong. This has been a debacle, what a joke.
  3. I feel the same, we've finally drafted the right type of guys. It has taken us a good decade to draft some bigger bodies early - but we should reap the rewards. Petracca looks like a bull and Brayshaw looks every bit another Dustin Martin/Oliie Wines type player.
  4. Don't worry, i'll be around to wipe the egg off their faces over the next couple of years.
  5. Yeah I noticed that, Stretch is in good shape, can see the definition. Actually has more definition than some of our senior players.
  6. BP was just terrible, I was done with him after Strauss. Unfortunately had to sit by and watch us take Lucas Cook. I'd of went no where near Morton, Strauss, Cook or Gysberts. Parker and Sloane were unforgivable to overlook. Shuey was an obvious selection for a club deprived of leadership. BP made some shocking selections, I am glad he is history. MFC are well and truly back on track now, but BP set us back a LONG way. As for Emma, I have a lot of time for her early work on big footy. I feel she paid her dues, and I don't mind her inside knowledge.
  7. MFC has given Gawn the best chance to succeed, signing up Jamar to 3 years when we did now looks like a good move. Even now, Gawn looks a year off still. Retaining Spencer was a good move, a very good move actually. Spencer could be a dark horse for the role, his work rate for a ruckman is top notch.
  8. I think he'll be better than Viney. Brayshaw is more dual sided, and harnesses his agression better than Viney. Jack needs to just slow it down a touch at times and not always go full pelt. From what I've seen of Brayshaw is that he is the smarter footballer.
  9. If we can turn him into a defender, then make it happen.
  10. It will depend what direction the game of AFL shifts to. If the game shifts towards rolling mauls then we'll see the ball bombed in more - which could spell trouble for our backman. But if the game shifts away from rolling mauls and more towards spread and rebound - then we'll be laughing. Most likely we'll see shifts between both styles of play, as the game evolves so quickly. Frost appears as though he'd be suited to either a lock down roll - or rebound. The McDonald boys might need to put on some size, and I'm not completely sold on Tom at present. Garland can play either tall or rebound, and Lumumba is a proven commodity. Grimes will need a good year in 2015 to keep out the likes of Toumpas, Salem and possibly even ANB in 2016. I cannot see Jack Grimes either holding a spot down back - or in the midfield - come 2016.
  11. Bottom 4-6 in 2015. But I think we'll see significant improvement in 2016. I see players like Toumpas, Salem and Viney really finding their feet next year. We'll see glimpses of the brilliance from Petracca and solid efforts from Brayshaw. But in 2016 it will all come together - and we'll be charging into the 8. I'm banking on us landing a name at the end of next year, there is no doubt MFC will be a desired destination. Without being overly bias, we now have one of the best young lists in the league.
  12. Explains why North were expected to pick him up at 25. I think we were lucky Durdin slid to North with their first pick. Things just fallen our way yesterday. McDonald looks a better prospect than his brother at the same age. Oscar looks a better kick, mark and judging solely off his highlights - he has confidence as a forward. Obviously he has to put it all together, but to get a bloke at 53 - when he was expected to go at 25 - is an excellent result for the club.
  13. Fair call, absolutely agree. I was bothered we slided 23 to GWS for Frost. But to get back Neal-Bullen and McDonald - on top of Frost - is an excellent result. I think that result would be above and beyond what our recruiting staff would've imagined when we parted with 23.
  14. One thing I see in Jimmy Toumpas is his passion and drive. Toumpas is hard on himself - and probably to a fault. But I don't think Toumpas will let these next batch of kids overtake him. I reckon these young kids in Petracca and Brayshaw will bring the best out of Toumpas. Toumpas is competitive, I see it in him, that competitiveness just hasn't quite transferred over to the field - but I think it will. To my eye, Toumpas looks like he has no core - absolutely none. I would be worried about this if he hadn't had crook hips - and had a fair run at things, but he hasn't had a fair run. Given an injury free pre-season I agree with you, I think Toumpas will be a gun.
  15. Yeah, that is possible... But, Brayshaw has a FAR superior inside game to both Scully and Trengove - and Brayshaw compares well with Martin/Wines, who have transitioned very well into the AFL. Brayshaw does all the 1% plays, he tackles, gathers, crashes, bashes, he is a go-getter - and a dual sided player. IMO Brayshaw is an even safer bet than Jack Viney was. Petracca is more likely to bust than Brayshaw - but also has a higher ceiling. But even drawing comparisons between Petracca and Scully/Trengove, I'd say that Petracca is no doubt the better athlete - and one of the better athletes to comes through since Dangerfield - and also Petracca is physically stronger than Scully/Trengove, arguably better on the inside than both, and stronger in nearly all areas. Trengove was definately classier than Petracca, and hit more targets, looked more silkier - but Petracca is FAR more damaging on the scoreboard than either Scully or Trengove was. In watching a fair amount of Scully pre-draft, a little bit of Trengove and Petracca, I'd say that Petracca is more dominant than Scully/Trengove. One thing that stood out in Petraccas highlights is his confidence and absolute dominance on the field.
  16. I wish Toumpas had Petracca's strength through the core. Who knows, maybe Toumpas is just playing catch up after hip surgery a couple years back. But if we get the best out of Jimmy Toumpas and Christian Petracca, we'll be a very dangerous football side.
  17. I think Paige Cardona and Knightmare also had him at 21. I rate Knightmare as a good judge.
  18. How the hell Josh Glenn missed out is beyond me. Glenn would deadset buy and sell most kids in this draft. Maybe there is more to Glenn holding back from previous drafts, not sure.
  19. Probably the same reason as Sloane and Parker, not an athlete. This guy looks like our best chance to really nail that late pick. His highlights look similar to Luke Parker. Just off highlights alone, if Neal Bullen has a solid pre-season, I will be specking him in the rising star markets.
  20. Awesome. Must have a hell of a leap on him if he can dunk it so easily at 186. Powerful and athletic bull. Perfect.
  21. Gubby Allen on AFL right now. He didn't mince his words, said the rumored Howe trade with GWS was "absolute crap"
  22. Yeah any combination of 2 of the 3 means we can at least sleep sound till we find out what combo, thanks Roosy.
  23. I wouldn't read too much into the IQ, Petracca has probably been involved in sports at an early age - and neglected study. What most term to be a negative - could be a positive. Billings didn't seem the sharpest tool in the shed last year (based on the draft profiles), yet he was a top 5 performer in 2014. Dustin Martin couldn't even read.
