Zero hanger reports Nth Melbourne making a bid for Jack Viney.
-
Its game playing ATM. No way we give up an early 1st rounder. The MFC would clearly understand that. We may split our early pick. May was traded for a pick 6.

Dan plays well at HB. A pick early to mid 20's at best for a 28 year old HB.. Spending 1st rounders on 28 year old HB's a few years before Tassy comes in borders on stupidity. ANB is a way better player and does it in tougher field positions. Would you expect 2 1st rounders for ANB? Just some perspective.

Take TMc, B Brown, Melks and Tommo out and it will reduce the age factor a fair bit. None of the above are now guns. Probably BB and maybe Tommo or Melks out? We are definetly going thru list/AFL side churn with a lot of younger players getting games this year. Jeffo still waiting in the wings with big wraps on him. The issue is whether the new kids are as good as the guys they replace? Also are we developing young players that will be elite to replace our mid aged elites? That is why I would prefer we retain our 1st round pick this year. Dan Houston will finish up around the same time as some of our current elites. We ideally want players who will replace them in due course.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
manny100 replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I doubt Jeffo will get a game this week. Goody hinted he is close but also hinted Taommo will get a gig in May's place. Plus a 1st gamer KPF up against an in for PA. Tough. If we lose this week and can't make the 8 and he plays well in the VFL i think he would be a reasonable chance to come in against GC. The club would constantly be the VFL players on where they stand etc. so Jeffo would firmly know where he stands. -
Port are just posturing. Perspective required. Geez, we got pick 13 plus a future 1st round pick from Freo for Jackson. We just got lucky Freo had a [censored] season and we got an early 1st rounder. Jackson is a young "generational player". With respect as Dan is a good player he is really at 28 years old next season and a flanker not worth more than a mid to late 1st rounder. " Fremantle have secured generational talent Luke Jackson in a blockbuster trade with Melbourne, sending two first round selections to the Demons plus a swap of later picks. As well as Jackson, Fremantle receive picks 44 and 67 in exchange for pick 13, Fremantle’s 2023 first round pick and 2023 second round pick."

May likely out for season, same ribs broken twice = extended time out. Might sneak back in against Maggie's last round. Petty to defence. Either McAdam or Jeffersen to come in. Draft mid this coming draft. Get a big preseason into Jeffersen and persevere with him next season. Get a big preseason into Pwtty and Oliver. Perracca back next season.

Its probably been mention a hundred times but perspective sees that the bullies in this for are going to beat most. A reminder of our best in 2021. Looks like we are done now for this year. I hope we use our 1st rounder on a kid. No trades. With Tassy getting closer i note with our young players coming in we are preparing for the Tassy draft pick drought to come . Maybe we will be adding Yze and Mentha this draft as well. 2025 wee might see Kalani White F/S and an Academy tall.

I have seen Jeffersen play and he hits the packs hard going for marks and gets around the ground pretty well. I think he will make AFL for sure. Not saying he will be a Cameron but i reckon when he gets going he could hold his own against Port's Marshall and even if he goes really well the over rated Kings. I am pretty bullish on what Jeffersen is capable of.

Welcome to Demonland: Ricky Mentha
manny100 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Trade, Draft & Free Agency
Great report. Some superlatives through the summary. showed great speed and composure under pressure His silky skills, pressure acts and decision making were all features Mentha showed great pace If he continues that form we may have to cough up a pick in the 40's. -
If Jeffersen comes up next year we have Petty or Turner to go back.

Welcome to Demonland: Ricky Mentha
manny100 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Trade, Draft & Free Agency
If he continues that form he looks like a lateish pick. I expect Yze to be a very late pick or rookie. Should be a few spots available on the list. -
Since when is a medium half back worth 2 1st rounders? Its just huff and puff stuff. He is likely 27 years old or thereabouts. He is good and can play most medium positions but 2 1st rounders - no way. We got Landon who is a gun for pick 22 and he was way younger. The question is do we go to the draft with a reasonable pick this year or do we already have enough kids coming through and a lack of quality players around 27 years old. I think we have heaps of kids coming through and probably need a good quality experienced player coming in. Rivers looks like stepping up to a mid role on a permanent basis so a spot for an experienced half back opens up. Rivers plays above his age. I think its probable we will make a play for Houston or someone of that quality to complement our younger players coming through.

When any team gets beaten they look slow. We do have some quick players. Some of these are young and will only get better if not quicker - the names of our speedsters have already been mentioned

Good post, posters need to be mindfull that some unthoughtful repetitive scathing comments can have unwanted harmful effects on players. Choice of words is a precious commodity.

He looks huge for a bottom ager. AFL body like JVR on drafting for sure. Lets hope his footy matches JVR.
-
Life long Dees fan. He will be a Dee. I have no doubt.
-
Already announced its changed . But probably best not to put to much pressure on via heaps of posts.
-
Lucky for the AFL changed the rules. Another season at Coates and he may well go top 20 or 30. The AFL owes us. With White in 2025 as well i expect we will go hard for mids this draft.
-
We needed to sign him up. We will likely draft more mids this year and May and T Mc getting on. We likely have talls coming in 2025. Kalani White F/S and Tairon Ah-Mu a 198/199 cm bottom age forward/ruck with Dandenong stingrays in between school footy.. He is a member of our Academy program. Project tall. Probably wrong thread but shows importance of extending Harry with so many young project tall players on our books. " Ah-Mu has certainly announced himself with a selection of sensational APS performances to start the year. The versatile tall, who is still in his bottom-age year, had 21 disposals, 30 hit-outs and went forward to kick four goals on Saturday. He is also part of Melbourne’s Next Generation Academy."

Good strategic signing. We have young talls. Replacement for T Mc when he goes. Means for sure Tomlinson goes at season end. Gives an opportunity to play him back and try Jeffersen forward next season. Takes the pressure off both the club and himself with the Crows interest. He needs a full pre season.

No goals for Jeffersen but got 14 disposals which seems more than usual. Despite no goals was his game ok?

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
manny100 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Described on Gettable as a super depth draft. Top picks not as good as last years but players going in 20's last year would go in 40's this year. Expect clubs to be trying to trade future picks to get extra picks in this draft. I expect we may put our 2025 1st rounder on the table. -
Add J Smith to the out of contract players. Probably circa $300k savings. Not sure whether McVee and AMW have already extended their contracts? They can expect a raise. Melksham may get another year with a raise from current rookie money. I would not want to be in charge of doing the payments spreadsheet. It would do my head in.
-
We will have a fair bit of cap space at the end of this season. Between Brown and Hunter who will likely finish up probably around $700/800k. TMc and Tomlinson if thet stay will be on lighter contracts saving a Min $300k between them. If say Timonlinson leaves add another say $200/$300k. Compensation for the Brayshaw contract is 90% for next year. $750k x 90%. So we will have a few $ up our sleeve. We may have to carry a little over for 2026.
