The Marcus Prasad Thread
Is he eligible to be drafted by us as an Academy player???

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
This is probably our most important draft since 2019. We really need to nail pick 5 and snare a future elite player. In this draft we may even land a very good player with a late 1st or earlyish 2nd round pick.

To be eligible he must have at least one parent born in a non-English speaking country or identify as Aboriginal or Torre Strait Islander. It appears in the case of Ah-Mu even though Samoa has its own language English is widely spoken as a sort of 2nd language. Its the multicultural background you have when you don't have a multicultural background. In the context of the AFL’s Next Generation Academy (NGA), a “diverse background” refers to players who come from either an Indigenous or multicultural background. Here’s a breakdown: Indigenous Background Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander: Players who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander are considered to have an Indigenous background1. Multicultural Background Non-English Speaking Country: Players who have at least one parent born in a non-English speaking country are considered to have a multicultural background1.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
List of VFL/AFL players with international backgrounds - Wikipedia Bit of a joke. How many non Academy multi cultural players are from the Pacific Islands - none. See Wiki list above. From the AFL ruling you would think it was common. No encouragement from the AFL it seems. The Dees should request a review of the decision.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Depending on what we see is available next year i would not be surprised if we traded our future 1st back into this draft. Given that Ah-Mu is now off the 'books' we make look at a tall with a traded back future 1st given that both TmC and May are heading towards the sunset.

Interesting, KPF at 5 and we have a choice of a few good mids at the effective pick 7.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I hope we seek clarification. The problem may be whilst Samoa has its own language English is widely spoken. Well i guess is English is widely spoken pretty well every where now. I think it may be like the AFL free agency compensation. You get what the AFL wants you to get. I asked co pilot. Evidently the AFL have ruled that Ah-Mu despite having a diverse background does not have a diverse background???

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I guess the AFL had to officially notify the Dees as it would materially effect our trading and draft selections. If for example we had Ah-Mu in the bag for 2025 we would have likely only picked up mid type players this draft and trading season. Probably means we will look to pick up a mid with pick 6 and maybe a KPD later in the draft or top 20 if we can move our future 1st back into this draft.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Can't believe the amount of bad luck we have had. The 'luck' worm has to turn sooner or later. Given obvious interest in Ah-Mu from early in the season the AFL should have published their decision much earlier. This sort of stitches him up as a top 10 in 2025. Disgrace.

Coates Talent League 2024
No surprise but the AFL have ruled that we have NO access to our Academy member Tairon Ah-Mu in the draft next year.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
I watched Ah- Mu's goals at the 9.1 min of the 1st q and 20 .4 min of the 4th Q.. He is massive for Coates.. I assumed he would out muscle the 'kids' for his goals. Geez was i wrong. He got his goals via uncontested natural forward movement and leading. He kicked 3 goals out of the teams winning 9 goals 10 behinds. He has had a few bags of 3 this year. We might have something to work with here with this underager. Thanks Dee-licous for the Coates app tip, cheers.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
I am now thinking one of the mids mentioned above is the way to go. Hopefully we get 'lucky' and get a mid who turns out to be elite. I just hope like 'hell' we keep or pick 5 for the draft. We may even look to trade our future 1st back into this draft. Does anyone know where todays stats for Oakleigh can be accessed?

Hopes for 2025
Seston finished equal 4th in Casey B & F with Laurie. I think he will get another year.

Hopes for 2025
White and AH - MU coming on board 2025 draft as F/S and Academy. Early talk over bigfooty Ah - Mu around pick 20 and White around pick 50. Allow us to mid/mediums this 2024 draft..

Kate Roffey Steps Down
Well done Kate. You/we got the 2021 Premiership and the ball rolling on the new facility and the future fund both which are crucial for the ongoing survival of our great club..

2024 Phantom Drafts
If JT and his team thinks draft is a beauty then we may try to trade our future 1st back in. We will be looking at bringing White and Ah-Mu in next year so they will be guessing what sort of picks we need in 2025.

Thanks, great effort, can we take all of Yze, Mentha and Andrew?

Coates Talent League 2024
Riak Andrew scouting notes Wild card round 20. 1/9/24. Scouting notes. Could be a chance for a rookie spot. #5 Riak Andrew Tall Defender | 192cm | 17/02/2005 Stats: 12 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 rebound 50s Having arguably been bested by Jobe Shanahan in their previous two meetings this year, Andrew faced the daunting task once more and kept Bendigo’s spearhead forward goalless for just the second time. The over-ager stuck tight to his direct opponent and was able to nullify his marking influence when Bendigo had the wind advantage. After some tough moments in term two, one of Andrew’s best moments was a rundown tackle late in the piece to exemplify his effort and intent.

The Draft Pick Upgrade Thread
If JT thinks he can get a Gus or Tracc type at 6 then we will go to the draft IMO. We were lucky the Saints and GC had wins in R24 otherwise we might have been tempted to split or trade it. I think we will try to trade into the teens. We may trade our future 1st rounder into an early pick?? Also have to consider we may get talls White and Ah-Mu next year so more likely to stock up on smalls this draft unless pure ruck available.

Coates Talent League 2024
May have been mentioned but Ricky Mentha (our Academy player) made the Round 19 Coates Tean of the week.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
I would like to see another young ruck like Dodson come in under the Gawn tutorage.
