MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 1, 2016
CBDees replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
LH is right on the ball throwing up the possibility that OMac might be playing in lieu of Harry. So many here are attacking OMac and the selection committee in defence of Dunn rather than best team on the day as regards fitness or match-ups. Similarly, the Club has chosen to play Dunn, Brayshaw and Harry in the (shortened) Casey practice yet not even giving Petracca a run today as part of his come back. Judging from the outcome of the NAB Challenge, I am prepared to have confidence that our FD has a strategy and also that we will see plenty of Dunn, Brayshaw, Harry, Petracca and even Weideman by the end of the season. Similarly, I am not overly disappointed to see Matt Jones out there today - he has worked hard for it and will be committed to not letting his team mates down. -
I cannot believe that at 3.30am I was awakened by an Airbnb request from California from somebody who wanted to fly in next Friday night to watch the Pies play the Tigers. (I live next door to the "G") I replied that l have an ABC policy here and, unless they wished to watch the mighty Demons demolish the Bombers on the Saturday, l am full up (no vacancy). I hate to see some Yank waste his airfare to watch rabble.

MFC 2016 Membership - Record Broken. Next stop: 40,000
CBDees replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we have good wins in the first few games then why not, especially with Oliver playing this Saturday, Petracca to debut after the first month and the likelihood that we will also see Weideman playing this year. We are already exciting up forward with Hogan, Garlett and (reinvented) Watts and, with Kennedy, Vanders, Brayshaw, Kent, Harmes and Bugg, we're not a bad team to watch play. -

Who's in the ruck? Gawn, Tyson & N. Jones? -
I am not sure about the horses but I can hear drumbeats from my house and they are driving me mad.

And we have uncovered a Star in Oliver (Debuting this Saturday)

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
CBDees replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great viewing. Better than Foxtel. -
Planning to go along tomorrow to watch Jack. Just a shame that Petracca isn't also featuring in the Casey intraclub. edit. Petracca did play and looked the goods today as did Jack Trengove. Looking forward to seeing them both featuring in the Dees' line-up a sap.

At the end of Round 2 we will have a massive percentage.

The three goals from Watts (that you forgot to mention) will get it done.

I'm happy to merely make the eight this year and then watch Freo beat Hawthorn in the Grand Final. Oliver to win the Rising Star. Viney to be runner-up in the Brownlow. Casey to win a Premiership. Next year l want us to finish Top Four and content to watch GWS demolish the Dogs in the Grand Final. Hogan to win the Coleman Medal. Oliver to win the Bronlow. in 2018 l want nothing less than for us to knock off Collingwood in the Grand Final (for old times sake)! Oliver for Norm Smith medal. Hogan to win his second Coleman. Petracca to win the Brownlow. In 2019 and 2020 l want us to back up for two more flags also against Collingwood! Viney captain and Petracca and Brayshaw get the Norm Smiths. Weideman and Hogan tie for the Coleman Medal twice in a row. Vanders and Salem both win Bronlows. AND in 2021, l want us to create history by winning our fourth against Collingwood on the trot in front of 100,000 passionate Melbourne FC members (many of whom had defected from Essendon)! Salem to win the Norm Smith Medal. Weideman to win his third Coleman Medal. An aging Viney to win the Brownlow. Now I have revealed my long term aspirations, I hope that we trounce GWS this Saturday!

Anything less than 50,000 will be pessimistic! -

Not if all Demonlanders enthuse a lapsed/new Demons barracker (c.f. Supporter) to join. We only need a bit of momentum and 50,000 is not beyond the realms of possibility. -
Number 70 tram in Flinders Street or across the road from Richmond station

I just like the fact that our forward half this year, looks to present more of a threat than their respective forward, especially with Cameron out.

I'm happy to run with his predictions!

Dees by seven goals to finish 2nd on the Ladder after Round One. The following week we will be top of the AFL Ladder with a healthy percentage after beating Essendon by a lazy ten majors.

I am not sure how much of an outsider this bloke, Ben Gibson, is? To me, he seems like the consummate closet Demon supporter. Maybe he was the guy behind me down at the pub typing into his laptop during all three matches of the NAB Challenge? I only hope that we can see this group all fit and available when we hit the last half of the season. My only query: are we better served by Frost/Pedersen rather than Dawes this year? I guess it depends to a degree on whether Max stays uninjured and can run out games.

It is highly unlikely that Petracca will play Round One, particularly as he hasn't been named for Casey this weekend however his form since he has resumed full training has been awesome IMHO and he is destined to have an immediate impact when he is unleashed (even more so than we will see with Oliver come Round One)!

Essendon may not have terms if their contracts are null & void!

Terlich was not even given a chance (again). Trained his heart out in the pre-season and was on the extended list for the three NAB Challenge games but missed the final cut each time. I fear his ship has sailed.

Pretty happy to run with your team for the first two weeks Stuie and, like you, I agree that M. Jones was unlikely to miss out based on his NAB Challenge performances. The big question will come a few weeks into the season when Trenners and Petracca become ripe for selection. It has become harder than in the recent past to change the team (unless injuries prevail). Maybe Dawes, HL et al will develop an empathy with Terlich in their unscheduled careers for Casey?
