DUMB & DUMBER - OUR MATCH DAY COACHING
Deecisive replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
i agree the players on the field need to adjust as the game goes on. the eagles game last week is a prime example of richmond players staying in their half with stuff all time to go instead of bottling up the eagle forward line at the throw in. We fell for the same trap against the saints, players need to do adjust themselves instead of waiting for a runner to come out with a note from their mother to tell them the obvious., -
Gee I would hate the see what the free kick count would have been if the Umpires and AFL did not like us.
-
pathetic football by the demons, gutless, lazy, sloppy and no pressure. You start to finally think the club has turned the corner and is starting to play good football the sort we want them to play and then they turn on this rubbish against a rubbish side.
-
no point crying over who is or is not in the side. We have 22 players out there that need to come out in the second half with a far different attitude. we are in this till as its only 3 goals and we have been playing crap football. we can and should still win this.
-
Not sure they can give pick 6 for prestia, after all collingwood will be asking for pick 6 and their second round pick for Cloke.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 22
Deecisive replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
for the first time in many years we have a side that really has something to go out and play for, this week will help determine how far we have come, Dare to dream that we can play finals this year. . -
I hope we don't go and get ahead of ourselves, we still have to beat Carlton and lets not forget the last time we took a rubbish side for granted the pantsed us. One week at a time please.
-
what a pathetic effort by so many of our players, they just did not bother to tackle or chase. so many easy missed goals. Roos and Goodwin need to give them all rockets that they dont forget, good sides dont come out after a win or to and loose to wounded rabble like port.
-
Max has been awesom this year, I hope he can win the brownlow, but knowing the umps they will probably give it to the flashier dangerfield or some other midfielder. Max has shouldered the ruck for the dees all year with only a few minutes of rest each quarter. his contested marking has been exceptional as has been his hard running from end to end every game.

THE MOST AWESOME POST MATCH THREAD EVER!!!

One other play by frost that impressed me was in the first quarter i think it was obrien who marked it almost in line with the goal square in front when frost came in late and pushed him and he fell and rolled over, technically it should have been 50 but being 15 meters out directly in front, big deal. The ump did not pay the push and ended up putting obrien on a worse angle because of where he landed after the push, 20 metres out if that and he missed. that was gold. -
much as I would like to stick it to brisbane for them denying us a priority pick I think we need to move on and agree they can have a late round 1 pick. But they also need to address all of the underlying problems they have with player retention, [censored] poor coach, president, recruiters, etc...the AFL needs to move away from dangling priority picks on teams that fail. i would love to see the bottom 4 or 6 teams draw lots to get the draft order for the first 4-6 picks just so that we remove any incentive for teams not trying.

THE MOST AWESOME POST MATCH THREAD EVER!!!

A truely memorable win. Gawn is a beast, his efforts today were massive all over the ground. Oliver was sensational, loved his work on the boundary when he kept the ball in and played on, too many melbourne players would be satisfied with just running it over. I loved the fact that he backed himself, his ability to dish to ball off to a players was first class. Not sure anyone noticed by there may have been a couple of dodgy umpiring calls that cost us a couple of goals, and a couple of poor turn overs by our players when we were close to our goals that resulted in them scoring instead of us. If we had just controlled the ball a little better we would have won by 50+ points. All in all time to go back and watch a replay of the game, this time i promise to be a bit more quiet, except when that little xxxx riolli comes into the frame. -
It was disappointing to loose, but then we have in the past won ones that we should not have. This team is very much a work in progress, if this result was against a bottom side I would have been gutted but it was against the Westcoast in the west, so while disappointed, I'm pretty proud of the effort. Yes we kicked badly, but a lot of other days we kicked damn accurately, the conditions were obviously not conducisve to clean handling. our forward line was crowded while theirs was open a lot of the time. all in all i think it was a great effort. One thing I must say about the deliberate out of bounds, I wonder why players who get tackled 5 or 10 meters inside the boundary can drive for the boundary line with their tacklers and it not be considered deliberat out of bounds, the weagles backmen did this time after time,

So many people making lame excuses, blaming darwin, selection, roos coaching, umpires, etc. etc. etc.. Reality is the 22 on the field did not do their job after quarter time. The played dumb football. It was a disgrace, we were damn lucky not to have lost by 10 goals or more. poor skills, too many players not prepared to chase to tackle properly, to put their head down and play. Viney is one of the few who can hold his head up for giving 100% all day long. You cannot go into any match carrying so many poor performers and expect to win. As for stats, I really think we need another category of stats, something like the player actual does something good with it. We had a lot of players who go cheap stats handpassing and kicking to players vastly out numbered, or directly to the opposition, or fiddly hand passes back and forth a couple of times before they turned it over. The Melbourne football club's skills coach needs to be replaced, that is if we actually have one.

Changes for next week v Swans
Deecisive replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
We had a real team effort against the Pies, while some did not get massive amount of the ball they all seemed to do their job. Wagner did very well, he sprayed a few, but then so did Jones, stretch, Tom Mac etc... Rain coming will assist us as it will reduce their efficiency and both sides scoring chances. I think this is a perfect opportunity to take down the swans, I certainly like the odds we are being given. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 12
Deecisive replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
well with cloke out the pies will be trying to land the ball on cox's head so that he can use his height. I hope tmac is able to cope with that. A bit of surprise, wood must be praying cox kicks a few, as cloke was one of the few players who on his day could kick a bag against us. either than or their tanking. As for Garlett, someone had to pay the price, for the poor forward performance, we also have harmes and kent listed as part of the extended interchange I expect to give them a gentle reminder that the next stop is casey if they dont start playing team football. -
He will bounce back, hopefully this week against the pies. Nothing like a large crowd to bring out the showmanship.
-
we are a young developing side, injuries will play a big part in how we go and how our opposition goes. I think we have a side that on its day can mix it with anyone, the problem is that we are unable to maintain consistency and self belief, though on the odd occassion when we go into a game as favourites we dont seem to think we have to work at winning.
-
Afraid it wont stop within a week, too may players have been playing for this for too long and are well practiced at lifting the arm, dropping the knees, bending the head down and throwing the head back. All of it needs to see as the player trying to draw / stage for a free kick.

Disappointed that we did not finish the game closer. The hawks were the better side, they had far more shots on goal and with a bit more luck could have given us a flogging. All in all our defense played pretty well, yes there were mistakes, stuffups but there was also a lot of intense pressure. The hawks forwards tackling was nothing short of amazing, if we had that kind of tackling in our forward line we would be potential premiers. Sadly our forwards are not chasers, nor tacklers. I thought Dawes tried, a fair amount of the time I see dawes going for marks I see players hanging off him and he rarely gets a free. Bernie was awesome, I thought he pipped Typson for best melbourne player, possibly best on the ground. He was barrelling the ball out from full back then running around tackling mitchell and anyone else with the ball. Bernie needs to stay on the ball he is not a handballer like so many of our on ballers he barrells the ball forward 50 metres, sadly too often the opposition read the flight of the ball better than our forwards. Tyson his best game by a long shot. As for the umpiring, it was not brilliant there were obviously a lot of frees missed with the wet conditions, and a couple of head highs that really should not have been paid. I dont understand the hypocracy of the AFL talking up concussion at the sametime continuing to reward players for ducking and getting hit.
-
I would love to see spencer come in and hang around in the goal square when not rucking, same with Gawn. Put hogan up on a wing and dawes at chf. Ben kennedy in for Harmes and Kent would make way for Spencer. I think continued ruck dominance is critical in us getting first touch on the ball, so we should ensure there is no respite for the collingwood big men. Also keeping spencer or gawn resting in the forward line will keep one of the big backs at home to stop Spencer or Gawn marking or at least make a serious contest when the ball goes down there. This will have to suck up at least one of the better collingwood backmen reducing the pressure on both dawes and Hogan. Hogan already roams, so let him roam more easily. We still want him running forward for goals and I think he can do that better if he is running into the forward line rather than running out of the forward line to look for passes.
-
Having more games experience does not excuse the ineptitude and total lack of intensity from some of our players. I can accept it when we are play reasonably well and are out played but we did not even come close to playing even half decent football.
-
While few of us expected we would play finals football this year, most of us expect the team that is put on the field to put in a solid performance. We had a lot of our players including some of our more experienced players who just did not turn up, or who played well below the standard expected. When I look at teams like St Kilda and Carlton both who were expected to be basket cases I see greater consistency and effort than I see in our players. Again this was a game that earlier in the week were favorites to win, yet again we were thrashed. These are supposed to be professional footballers, professionals some paid hundreds of thousands and they cannot hit a team mate 25 meters away with a pass, who fail to be accountable for their man, and who could not tackle to save their career. Disgusted with the effort. Players need to be sent back to the VFL and bring others who are prepared to try.

H to replace Jetta in the backline. Pederson to replace Garland in the backline. Newton to replace Pederson in the forward line ANB to replace michie on the bench.
