people worried about Rockliff's rep, yet not sure anyone understands what that reputation is for, or how it came about, or even if he recognises he needs to make changes and moving to another club could be part of that. As I recall we got garlett cheap because he had a bad rep, maybe we should throw him back.
-
and everyone elses, not sure we will have an early enough pick to get him, looks a likely type though Ruckman and even backup ruckman seem to be in great demand at the moment, so teams will be looking at all of the options, ourselves included, if we show not obvious interest then teams may let him slide hoping to pick him up with a later pick. show too much interest and they are likely to jump in before we can,
-
there has also been little mention us us being interested in Rockliff and lewis too, just means that we are not telegraphing our intentions to the world

Having Hibberd, Rockliff and Lews (if all true) come in with Melksham who has been sitting on the sidelines with a couple of end of draw picks and rookie upgrades should be enough for this year, we need to keep an eye on having some decent picks next year, as any new player we get this year is not likely to be getting a game this year with the current side and our new draftees.
-
maybe we can do a swap on 19 with someone for a couple of other picks one that we can then trade to meet Essendons requirements and still improve our position in another draft position.
-
Adding Rockliff and lewis as well as hibberd would be a fantastic. Both Rockliff and Lewis are captain/vice captain material they would add a lot of maturity and leadership to our team. The dees have often faded during games hopefully the inclusion of these guys will help other players step up so this does not happen.
-
I would expect the dees to have an interest in Rockliff, it would a derelection of duty not to enquire and see if we could get him. Obvious considerations as to whether we could do a deal is $'s, cost of a trade and determining if he will be able to fit into the melbourne culture, he has made mistakes, so has a lot of players, does not mean that he could not thrive in a new environment and team culture especially one going up rather than down.
-
I think he would be a good pickup he would give us a bit more strength while our younger fellows mature. I think he could give us the sort of experience that bernie has given us since coming over. Obviously this all comes down to price, how much is it going to cost it dollars or trade goods.
-
He may not want to go anywhere, but throw some big $'s at him anyway and try to entice him so at least the Swans have to pay more to keep him, that will put even more pressure on their salary cap.
-
the sad thing about the draft process is that the GWS will be able to continue to strip out the top players for many years to come by continuing to swapping players from the stockpile of high draft picks and continued access to their academy players. A side that finished in the finals has all of the top picks sown up once again.
-
a team needs to want him, how many teams are prepared to give up a first round player to get him as well as have the salary cap to pay him what he wants.
-
The AFL self interest in seeing the GWS and other interstate clubs flourish at the extense of the smaller melbourne clubs is clearly evident in everything they do.
-
I hope they do, someone has to force the draft dodgers into playing by the rules, though i suspect this is a bid by essendon to try to get a bonus from one or both of them for not bidding on the academy players.
-
I personnally are keen to see hibberd and Melksham playing off the half back, I still remember the days when Hass and others provided us with an attacking half back line, what he have at the moment is a defensive half backline. We struggle to get the ball out of defense and our attacks often result in turnover. We need quality delivery out of the half back line, I

I would be targetting the Suns to try to get a early draft pick they have quite a few and may want to actually swap some for either next year or more mature players to help them rise next year. I doubt they want to use all of their draft picks onh young players that would leave them with a very youthful and inexperienced team.
-
ok so how does one go about legally getting rid of the current afl leadership team so that we can put football back on an even keel. The current board has shown they will give favours where they want and ignore so many other areas that may have been equally as poor or more deserving of help.
-
Much as I would like spencer to be successful with the dees I did not see a lot in either of the VLF finals games from him, maybe he needs another ruck coach to help him along, otherwise we need to seriously start looking for a successor to max

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DECLAN KEILTY
Deecisive replied to Steve13's topic in Melbourne Demons
i wonder if we looked at the various areas that each club now controls and go back over say the last 5 years at what each area produced I wonder how balanced or evenly spread the talent would be, and who would have gone where.. -
just wondering because the suns will have so many first round picks whether they would consider swapping one or more of those for a player like dunn, or others and our next years first round pick so that they spread the impact of having so many young first year players hit their side at once. This would give them another experienced player or two and give them another first round draft pick next year, so they wouldnt loose a whole lot on the deal.
-
well i like the Joel Smith and the Maynard gets, Smith looks like he has the goods, we can hope Maynard does to. We dont have a lot of good draft picks so it is important that we either get reasonable value for players we can trade or pick decent free agents that will provide us with an upgrade on the players we delist or loose.
-
noticed a few teams (Essendon, Richmond and Geelong) have access to 4 or 5 players a category b rookie's, while melbourne and most other clubs only have access to one each. This zoning thing can really give some teams a great advantage and handicap others.
-
i like the look of him, if we pick up as a free agent then he can spend a year or so in Casey bulking up and getting fitter. who knows what a few extra kilos and a injury free preseason may do for him.
-
I have to agree, so many times melbourne has had trouble getting it out of defense because of the oppositions press, Dunny kicks it way out onto the wing in most cases, so it is close the the boundary so we can push it across if needed so that we can reset, it is a necessary action to beat the high press. now days we are seeing people do small kicks across the back line and from side to side like they are playing ping pong, I like dunny's style, kick the crap out of it and get it as far away from the goal his is defending. I thought his game on the weekend for casey was excellent. Would be disappointing to see him leave, but the competition of spots in the backline is hotting up. he will be missed as he has been a pretty good team man.

Collingwood will stick up for grubby after all he called out that he helped players evade drug detection as part of his duties on his CV, thats what sold Eddie on him in the first place.

the umpiring certainly helped carlton, too often the umpires let the game go and players from both sides were tackling badly and dropping the balls, holding the ball and nothing. Then when they did decide to pull one out of the hat in invariably went to the blues. 20 to 5. is a significant difference, we were not that bad we got pinged a lot more for holding it while they got away with it. And as has been mentioned they got away with a lot of acts that could have been called but werent. All that aside the players we had even with the 3 so call poor in's should have won. Our woeful passing, and kicking for goal lost us the game. our forwards have been pretty good this year, but yesterday we were woeful. I personnally had hoped that we would beat carlton and geelong, but not make the finals. Because if we had made the finals it would have been just to make up the numbers this year. That way the boys would hopefully think a bit more about what could have been if they had put in a bit harder against Essendon and some other sides. Now they need to think about the carlton game as well as the essendon as two of their worst that could have seen them play finals football.
