  1. i would prefer to see melksham rested, his kicking at goal and forward pressure has been woefully, and giving away stupid frees and 50 meter penalties is not smart either. Weid for melksham. Bennell has to be given a chance, he should replace Hunt on the forward line I really am not sure about Smith, he did his job most of the time, but gave away some dumb frees, the main problem with our backline is they all like to jump up and punch the ball, no-one likes to stay on the ground which results in the opposition getting easy goals when the ball goes over the back. these guys need to either trust each other more rather than competing with each other. rightly or wrongly our backline has not given up a lot of goals so i would tend to keep it as it is. I must say i am bemused by our bombing the ball into the forward line, and how often we kick it straight to an opposition player, with no melbourne player around to mark or challenge. I often wonder how come the opposition players can read the ball but our players cannot. Tom Mc needs to be given more room so that he can lead up the field to mark as that is his strength, unfortunately we are kicking it onto his head when he is surrounded by opposition players. our forwards need to disperse and not bunch up, giving players down the field more options to kick to in their own players in the forward 50. Pickett's a keeper, yes he did not get a lot of touches but he was in there chasing and was starting to look dangerous. i think he will settle down once he gets a goal or two. He needs the experience working and bonding with the team. Vdberg i would rest and bring in Jones again to play in the forward line, Jones is not the fastest, but he is able to mark and kick better than many for goal. May on his kickouts, he did some nice kickouts but a couple of times he kicked the ball to Gawn who had 3 or more players on him. I would have thought that would have left a few melbourne players to run around by themselves and would have been a better option. But May still kicked it to contests where we were outnumbered. Lastly Oliver, he is a brilliant player, but his turn over with no pressure on him in the dying minutes of the game was heartbreaking not only for Oliver but the whole team. As a team we need improve our disposal efficiency, especially in those instances where players are not under pressure and turn the ball over, if we could cut that out we would win games.
  2. We need to give the guy a chance to feel comfortable playing CHF, then maybe he can play the type of football that we have seen glimpses of. Hell he cannot do much worse than some of our existing forwards. If we dont play him then he will be wanting to be traded and we will lose him for a round 3 pick because we dont value him as much as another side will. He is young enough and talented enough to hold down CHF for the dees, so give him a chance.
  3. What a pitiful effort, donโ€™t have anyone on the goal line and let a goal through, leave Geelong players unmarked for two others. This is not the coaches fault itโ€™s the players out there not thinking about manning up., not marking, not being able to kick straight. Our disposal efficiency is consistently worse than our opponents, as is our forward entries.
  4. i would bring brown and possibly Weids back into the forward line and move Tom to the backline maybe give smith a rest.
  5. With MacDonald playing so badly why did they not throw him back on to McGovern that would perhaps give him a chance to get into the game, as he was a total waste on the forward line. Having jettas speed and aggression on the forward line would not have hurt any more than McDonald contribution.
  6. It was if we substituted an new team and totally different game plan after the first quarter. Far too many players had little or no effect. The first quarter gave us hope that we were back as a team, then the second and subsequent quarters reaffirmed that no the dees were back to their 2019 form. Does not give me confidence that we are going to have a good year
  7. We slacked off a lot more than five minutes it was just that the kicked their goals in the last few mins. They had lots of the ball just kicked inaccurately during the quarter.
  8. I think the flip has worked well the problem was the lack of a melbourne player running through there.
  9. a man with incredible poise able to use his slight build to nudge bigger players out of the way. he had an amazing ability to twist and prop to, avoid tackle after tackle. In a fair majority of times in the clips after he marked he played on and moved the ball quickly how different from today where we stop and look around, go backwards and sideways. He had the confidence to mark take on any opposition players near him and still deliver the ball to a team mate or kick a goal. A brilliant player and wonder person.
  10. i find it interesting that Hawthorn is playing its first game in Geelong in something like 14 years. strange how we seem to play there every year and they don't.. i wonder how many other such anomalies apply where some clubs avoid Geelong, interstate trips, etc..
  11. The sad thing is that we have to go so far back to find highlights of the dees. I find Foxtel's footy replays pretty demoralizing as you rarely see a melbourne game and even more rare see a game that melbourne wins.
  12. our game plan has us with more players around the ball so we can get it forward more often. but we are kicking to a forward line where we are outnumbered and it shows. We expect our forwards to beat two or three opposition players for a start, Hibberds long kicking was an asset a couple of years ago when we have players down there able to mark and put pressure on opposition players. That is not the case now. We have a team that has learnt to be lazy, dont chase dont tackle just sort of fence the opposition players in. We have difficulty in kicking the ball in when the opposition scores a point. We are underpressure all day long. Yet we constantly left west coast players alone so they can kick it in to two or more open players with no melbourne player near them. Why, where is the pressure, why are we giving any easy kicks to the opposition. If we close them down on the flanks they may go up the middle , if we win the ball back then we in a better position to go forward, instead we allow them to go to flanks with no pressure. They switch and where the hell are our guys, no where near their players. I saw players ignore the opposition player with the ball and turn to chase their man. and I love oliver but his woeful trotting behind a west coast players was an absolute disgrace and sums up who many seemed to play. i did not expect to win, many of us didnt, but we expected our players to deliver a better standard of football than what they showed. Quite frankly if the quarters had not been so short and the eagles did not fiddling around playing keepings off instead of going for the kill then we would have lost by more than 50 points. the way the team played I felt like we had lost by 60 or more points it was that disappointing. quite frankly Goody could do with a read of George's assessment of the game on the front page of demonland. i think it sums things up nicely, shame we dont have a coach or assistant coach who can see the obvious.
  13. we have a game plan that is a an absolute disaster. they get the ball and have free players all over the ground, they have heaps more uncontested possessions. chip it into their forward line and kick goals. When we get the ball they cover our players and win the ball back, spread away kick to free players. Oliver's example of how not to chase sums up many of these players attitude tonight. At times i have seen our players turn away from the eagle player with the ball to cover their own man instead of putting pressure on the man with the ball. our players are too far away from their man to put them under pressure even if they fumble. Viney and Pickett are the only two players that have turned up to play.
  14. what a p*** poor effort, eagles chip the ball around with ease as our players playing meters away from or behind their opponents. another 6 or 7 weeks off may help our players to hand pass and kick the ball to their team mates. To think i have been waiting months for this game to come along. depressing first quarter
  15. Hopefully this will not be as bad as some predict. We have most of the scientist and medical people able to work on the virus either working on vaccines, or treating people.
  16. Sorry I disagree i think we need to thing strategically and to the future. Be prepared to move players around and be more versitile. Fritsch into defense, maxxy rover, Viney rucking, and Oscar ruckrover. if that does not earn us first pick in this years draft then nothing will.
  17. Some good signs in last nights game, but also some of the same old rubbish poor passing and turnovers, going backwards, going across field, some players just dont know how to move the ball quickly. Luckily the Hawks could not take advantage of our indiscretions. Fritsch was brilliant, but i would rather he played out of a pocket,
  18. it could have been real embarrassing without them
  19. thank goodness we had those vfl players to lift up our scoring
  20. Technically we can finish in 8th and still win the flag
  21. i wasn't going to panic, until he told me not to panic. He obviously knows something that he thinks will make me panic, so is trying to sooth our fears about it. But I don't know what it is that he thinks I might panic on, I might know it already and are not in a panic over it, but then it might be something I don't know about which now has me worried and likely to panic over it, what ever it is.
  22. i got the same feeling that she was not exactly pleased, Even Kysaiah's face wasn't exactly beaming when called.
  23. fischer did not look overly happy being picked by adelaide
  24. not thilled with this constant trying to split the picks and take us further down the pecking order. we only have a very limited number of slots available. we should be taking the best players we can. Quality not quantity.
