  1. i like the idea of kingy talking up the eagles, keep it up, i would rather they underestimate us, now that they have a couple of their stars back, i want them thinking they have this in the bag, home crowd, home umpires all that sort of thing. We showed we can pants them over there so when we start to hit the score board i want to see them doubt themselves. We may not win by as much as we did last time but i think we have the talent to beat them.
  2. a great game, this teams intensity over the last 6 weeks or so has been amazing. Their tackling intensity, backing each other up has been first-rate. Angus had a hard tag on him all night, but when we got the ball into his hands he really propelled us into attack. Trac really needs to fix his kicking, has a lovely long kick but some of his passes just gave the ball back to our opponents. If he can fix that part of his game he will really move up a grade. A lot of players down on form and stats last night, it has been a long 6 weeks or so, week off or not. But we still won well. Another tough win which is great preparation for taking on the weagles next week with their very loud home crowd. Umpiring was not great last night, again good pre for what we can expect against the weagles. I hope the team keeps focused and does not ahead of themselves as we have in the past. One week at a time, and make each one count. Lastly Jetta, Viney, McDonald, Oliver and Gawndog were all truly awesome one again.
  3. we will win this regardless of the umpires.
  4. if he tries to fend off a player by raising his leg, the player should fend of his foot by raising it above his head to protect himself. Then see how well green lands after that.
  5. time for those players who are hoping for a chance to play finals to show their stuff in the hope they can force themselves into the Melbourne team after we beat Hawthorn. Pederson has been doing that, bugg, garlett, jfk, smith etc all have a remote chance to impress or to cover possible injuries
  6. yes free agency favours the top clubs, it also penalises everyone else, as the suns will get another early draft pick as compensation which pushes our first pick even higher, then add in all of the other free agent compensations we continue to get pushed higher in the draft pecking order. The bottom clubs get a junior when then need more seasoned players, like the ones they are losing. So not a fan of the current solution. players are finding it too easy to break contracts, and even ordinary players can get offered ridiculous sums of money to play with north, saints, etc.. I hope lynch going to Richmond starts a few of their players thinking about how much they are getting paid and want to move to equal out the competition.
  7. AVB is a fantastic tackler, i wonder how he would go on garryAblett for a couple of quarters.
  8. wow what a win. I cannot recall the team being as physical as they were today, they were bumping the GWS players all day long. AVB was particularly brutal in his tackles. Players shepherded more today than i can recall seeing in the past. Gawn, what can you say about the big man that has not been said all year long, if he is not tapping to advantage his taking saving marks in defense or attack. JHK was terrific his tackling, putting his body on the line and deft passes to team mates shows he has the skills to play AFL football well. He needs more time to develop and feel part of the team, much like frost needed. the rest of the team awesome, truly awesome.
  9. I would prefer to win today so that we can kick geelong out of the finals, having gone down to them twice by a couple of points I would hope we would be primed for such a contest. I also like the idea that most of the finalists may not see us as a low threat because we have only beaten one side in the top 8. Thats fine with me, now is the time that counts we know we can mix it with the best. just need to finish it off better. now is great time of the year to do so.
  10. the gws is a fast running side, so while i initially thought no change been wondering if we should not bring wagner into the backline and move bailey up into the forward line and rest either kent or spargo.
  11. no change, except if someone is injured or suspended. we need to keep a consistent team. Garlett has done nothing in the seniors and was dropped where he continued to show little interest, no way he should be coming back in. we need players who will, run, chase and tackle that is not jeffy.
  12. Great result, the Dees deserved to win and win they did. I hope we can now follow this up with a win against GWS, that would get us really primed for the finals where we hopefully play, Sydney, Geelong or Hawthorn, all 3 are certainly beatable. I just hope whoever we play in the coming weeks continues to think we are flat track bullies and underestimates us. I hope the team now has the self-belief to now win some finals
  13. this is a must win for us. If north roll adelaide which they probably should do then have stkilda next week which again they should win then we are out of the finals. if this team wants to be part of the september action then today is the day they need to step up the pressure and win.
  14. stats show we can get the ball into our scoring zone against good and bad sides, kicking straight is the issue. if we can solve that, i.e. get the guys to take more care then we can potentially beat any side. Two or three years ago we were playing roo's defensive game if someone had said we would be 2nd highest scoring team for the year, playing attractive football i would not have believed them. We turned a lot of things around and we are very much still work in progress. All or even a little going well for us we play finals this year. We have the potential to win one or two finals. I hope like hell we do so that it gives the players a taste and a hunger for next year when we will really be making our charge with hopefully everyone fit.
  15. True he is older than some players, how old was Jetta when he was swung into the backline as his last chance to prove himself.
  16. While Hogan is a loss we have won without him before, sometimes even done better without him because we often look for him too often and when he is not playing well that means a lot of opposition rebounds. Time to give weed ago, he is our future and will learn a lot more from the experience and than pedo, who is unlikely to be on our list next year. Giving weed's a couple of important games and possibly finals may spur him on to do better.
  17. Sorry but i disagree Chook, we have to have players out there who need to understand the game and take responsibility for their actions. The coach can only do so much from where he is. he can swing players around and he can send out different orders, but he has 18 players on the field he needs to communicate new instructions too. I believe the players need to take responsibility for not manning up, not chasing, not tackling. Jessies poor leading pattern is Jessies issue that Jessie needs to fix, a runner can go out and tell him and tell him but Jessie needs to do it. I think it highly likely that the runner would probably have also told Jessie to take his time and kick straight. I doubt our coach told the players to bomb the ball into the 50 straight to Aliir, but they did. As Sun Tzu said No plans survive enemy contact. our players need to be thinking, not just running around kicking the ball as long as they can to the opposition to send it straight back over their heads.
  18. JHK needs more time, he will develop, he has shown he has the skill just needs more time to get more bulk and endurance. I would like to see Trac on the wing his long penetrating kicks take can catch the opposition out. As for team changes, Depends on Melksham and Hibbard being available they are walkup starters. Pedo and Hunt are the obvious outs. I like the idea of Bugg and Kent coming in, for Garlett and Spargo.
  19. The answer is obvious the players were waiting for goody to tell them to do so, instead of thinking about it themselves. Kind of reminds me of the St kilda game we lost in the last 40 seconds type scenario.
  20. i still dont understand this hostility to the coach, if our players had kicked straight then we would not be having this conversation. yes he played some players that did not work, but at the same time he has played others that did during the year. A few weeks ago a lot of supporters were bagging frost selection are now praising it and next week may be bagging it again. All plans go out the window once the ball is bounced. you deal with what you have at the time. We cannot have a team waiting for the coach to tell them the obvious. Our players did not adjust, they did not man up and they did not cover/chase. We can match it with any team on our day, our problem is our sometime crap kicking, what sort of score would we have had if even half of those kicks that went to aliir went to one of our players. we have proven we can get the ball into our foward 50 against all sides, what we do with it inside 50 is the main problem. I think jeffy needs a rest, he does not chase and pressure as i would expect a small forward. our players seem to think we have a high marking forward line so bomb it in. We dont, Hogan and mcDonald are good marks but not consistently in packs. they do best one on one. we need our players to take more care when sending it into our forward line. try putting it in front of our players so they can run onto to it. kick it back. spread. Lastly MFC should really invest in a sports psychologist to help hogan with his runup and kicking. he does not need a kicking coach he knows how to kick, what he needs to learn is to relax and get his runup flowing and hopefully his kicking will improve.
  21. Like several other games this year we should have won it, but failed to deliver, we choked. I did not expect melbourne to go far this year in the finals i had hope but did not expect a lot. we are now on the verge of missing out in playing finals. So many poor kicks for goal, so many poor passes, no chasing, etc.. Players now know they have two weeks to salvage their season. We have the talent but do we have the heart. hopefully we will get a couple of players back next week. i think we can beat the eagles , but its the players who need that belief and know that to achieve that outcome they need to fight every minute of the game. it would be good if they could also pick a more balanced team.
  22. the demons need to concentrate on their own game, we have shown often enough how we can lose to teams that most people expected us to beat and beat well. The GCS could just as well use Lynch as an excuse to pull together as a team. They beat Sydney a couple of weeks ago and many of the results of the round so far has been close with a couple of surprises. Let us hope the dees go out there and play attacking football. A few more percentage points would not hurt, if we win we should go to fourth on the ladder.
  23. i worry about the fact that so many supporters write off our players so easily, most are still young and developing and will over time get better. Bugg seems to be a reasonably good option going forward or even as a tagger, he is hard at it. yes he has missed some goals in the past but he has also kicked a few. We need to best team out on the field for the next few weeks to get us through to the finals and hopefully get some Viney and co back. To disregard his form and take others who are not doing as well in the VFL is foolish. during the year there has been a lot of people putting down frost, he has come out and done the job better than some of the newer recruits. We need to give these guys time to improve and not write them off so quickly. supporting a club also means supporting the players.
  24. agreed that frost and smith both were pretty good, yes they made mistakes but they were typically under pressure from the opposition. they will both get better with time in the side.
  25. In our game against Geelong when the Geelong player was kicking for goal after the siren and we had about 10 players on or behind the mark. Would it be legal to have had players behind the mark held up a tall player on their shoulders to make the man behind the mark another 2 feet taller, not only off-putting but would require the kicker to change their trajectory, given they cannot run around?
