  1. Good post Drunkn and accords with my observations from the matches I have seen. Pity that the Geelong game this Saturday night is followed the next week with a bye for Casey.
  2. Dangerfield wanted to go to Geelong so that deal was different. It was a genuine trading situation. I suspect Gaff will have a few offers and I can't really see why he would favour any one club over another except for their premiership potential which doesn't exactly bode well for us at present. The elephant in the room is the re-signing of Tom Mac. If he goes and the Weid fails to impress .... well that would be interesting... At least we would get a decent draft pick that we could use or trade.
  3. agree... If we trade we will have to pay whatever any other club moneywise offers for Gaff ( he gets that practically as an RFA) plus whatever we offer up in a trade... strange unless you want to free up salary cap. Brayshaw is out of contract at year's end which complicates things as well.
  4. There is a rather large number of Unrestricted free agents available this year. Unrestricted Richard Douglas (Adelaide); David Mackay (Adelaide); Andy Otten (Adelaide); Rohan Bewick (Brisbane); Ryan Lester (Brisbane); Marc Murphy (Carlton); Kade Simpson (Carlton); Jarryd Blair (Collingwood); Alex Fasolo (Collingwood); Tyson Goldsack (Collingwod); Ben Reid (Collingwood); Tom Bellchambers (Essendon); Hayden Ballantyne (Fremantle); Michael Johnson (Fremantle); David Mundy (Fremantle); Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle); George Horlin-Smith (Geelong); Daniel Menzel (Geelong); Jarrod Harbrow (Gold Coast); Michael Rischitelli (Gold Coast); Shaun Burgoyne (Hawthorn), Taylor Duryea (Hawthorn); Paul Puopolo (Hawthorn); Ryan Schoenmakers (Hawthorn); Brendan Whitecross (Hawthorn); Neville Jetta (Melbourne); Scott Thompson (North Melbourne); Sam Wright (North Melbourne); Justin Westhoff (Port Adelaide); Reece Conca (Richmond); Shaun Grigg (Richmond); Sam Gilbert (St Kilda); Heath Grundy (Sydney); Jarrad McVeigh (Sydney); Nick Smith (Sydney); Mark Le Cras (West Coast); Eric Mackenzie (West Coast); Luke Dahlhaus (Western Bulldogs); Tom Liberatore (Western Bulldogs); Dale Morris (Western Bulldogs) http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-03-22/official-afl-releases-list-of-2018-free-agents
  5. the idea of supporters from both teams seated together is a very special part of the Australian game. It would be an enormous pity if it were reduced. Don't really agree with the supporter only areas that have crept in over the last decade. And while I am at it... give the cheer squads back to the kids... time for the baby boomers to move on.
  6. Bring on 2109 or is that 2020.. we only need one more good pre-season in those legs I hear that there is this guy at Port who is underperforming ... Jack somebody.. perhaps we could make a play for him ..
  7. Picks 29 and 50 plus Ben Kennedy (now delisted)... we gave up Toumpas to Port Not a stupid trade at the time given that Howe wanted to move but in hindsight we lost badly
  8. only MFC could trade Howe for almost nothing and then spend two first round picks on getting in the same style player a couple of seasons later. Sure I understand the history of why Howe left but you have to admit it wasn't the greatest exercise in player management
  9. I'm picturing the training ground of the future for the wealthier clubs... a gutter or similar behind a special stand alone goal kicking area that collects the football and returns to the kicking area via a conveyor system. Marked positions on the field and the requirement for players to maintain 85% accuracy or start again. Add in crowd noise machines and perhaps a wind machine or two and you have the big club training facility of the future. Like the bowling/pitching machines for cricket and baseball. Wonder if one could invent a virtual machine?
  10. VFL play Geelong at Casey on Saturday night (7pm). Selection of emergencies etc for the Sunday game will be interesting...
  11. Definitely not ... but the door has been left wide open by the senior side. Agree ... Garlett gets another week .... With whom is Kent replaced? Bugg is injured and I am not sure that Fritsch and Hannan are like for like in regards to replacing Kent. At least we know the turf will be nice and dry next week. Really hope they resist springing T Mac as a surprise selection .. smacks of utter desperation if they do.
  12. Didn't think I would ever say this but Spargo for Garlett is perhaps worth a try ... (at best Jeff has one more week before he gets an enforced rest) Do any others think that Balic could be a smoky for inclusion? (Still don't understand whether he was injured, rested or whatever this round)

  14. spot on your Lordship. Our ability to dramatically impact the list is limited unless we trade one of our few better players. Last years draftees are not without talent. Hopefully we get some AFL level impact from them in the second half of the season.
  15. I am sure that most us pre season had the North and Bears games pencilled in as wins. As to the remaining four rounds of the first six games, Geelong, Hawks, Tigers and Essendon, I assessed them as 50/50 games and while I would have been happy with two wins out of four I was hoping for 3 out of 4. Well to say the least we have started badly. Lose to Essendon and we will be 2-4. Given the horrific run home we have we would need to win the next five straight to have a good chance of making the eight. That would mean we turn at 7-4 at the bye and then have to win 6 post bye (a hard ask). The only comfort I take about the coming game is that Essendon are as flaky as we are. Lose to them and the season is almost over. Scraping into the 8 on percentage doesn't do much for me.
  16. hard to win a game if you kick 5 goals for three quarters ....
  17. not sure how GA standing room is counted. I assume they monitor the non seating ticketed entrant numbers at the turnstiles. Might be a good idea to arrive around an hour early and I would think you would be ok
  18. ???? he was ok at best
  19. makes some sense but if true I would have expected the club to say so... mind you MFC is often failing in the communication stakes these days
  20. dropped into the station last week after hearing about it. The program at that time was from Sydney and ARL centric. Obviously they will have some AFL but it didn't grab me at the time
  21. Lose both tonight and against the Bombers we may as well start to plan for next season. We need to go to the bye at around 7 and 4... lose the next two and we will 2-4 which means we would need to win the next 5 straight. Big couple of weeks on the way.
  22. I must have missed that in his game at Coburg.... boy Goody does love the spin
  23. Agree BB Hogan is one of the few big men going around who is reasonably good below his knees. If we are lucky enough to have both Weid and T Mac firing (we would need to be very lucky) we would be a very powerful unit. As to how it would work with the current game plan, that is of course a secret known only to a select few of which I am not one. For me I would position Weid about 35 metres from goal and get him to run a number of patterns that were used intermittently as decoy runs and scoring runs. Nothing I have seen so far of the Weid suggests that he has the natural ability to "find" the ball. It would then be up to our skilled kicking midfield to find him at the designated points. ... yeah ... of course I'm dreaming !!
  24. Indeed there is my friend. We played our opening game last year down there OD. A beautiful day... caught the old train to Williamstown.. fish and chips on the promenade and then to the ground. Got chatting with some young fellows who played for the Williamstown under 18 comp. They were a pleasure to speak with and it is probably what got me interested in following the Casey VFL team. Port Melbourne is also worth a mention for its famous Burra burger alone
  25. Have a look at this Clint. Seems that you can get general admission with your MFC membership but it could be pot luck getting a seat. There is always standing room in the Southern Stand. cheers http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-04-16/anzac-day-eve-match-day-information
