Agree DD... a very strange set up. It also made it hard for spectators to access the arena itself at the breaks. Also very unimpressed with Punt Road from a spectator viewpoint. Ended up in the old stand which was comfortable but I love the VFL because of the ability to easily stroll around the ground and watch from different vantage points. Absolutely impossible due to access to various parts being denied. Catering came from one van in a crowded area that further exacerbated the squeeze. Give me Box Hill, Coburg etc any day. Williamstown on a non windy day is also an absolute delight.

Saty in fairness I don't think you will see much if any complaint about Casey's overall performance on this thread. There was a comment on the game plan by one or two that is a different matter. Just very few positives unfortunately and those that were there have been mentioned by several posters.

don't worry they won't be there long. Looks like Brisbane are the wooden spoon favourites at present

Not a great day at the office. 5 or 6 unanswered goals for us to start the game and then the Tiges for the rest of that quarter and the second quarter. Better second half but we were unable to significantly impact the scoreboard and bridge the gap. Hard to say who played well but certainly Pedersen, Spargo and Hannan impacted the game. Was it enough to demand selection...maybe for Pedersen and Hannan... depends how their equivalent plays on Tuesday night. Although we lost it was not a thrashing. Overall they were physically stronger and taller. I often wonder what coaches/tacticians look for in their VFL teams. Wins are nice but in reality it can come down to where you are with your list building, injuries and how much you spend on your back up players. If there is a worrying factor other than Pedersen (and ignoring this years draftees) no one really put up their hand and said pick me. Much the same can be said about the previous games as well.

True...was not meaning it as a criticism. Tigers look to be bigger bodied. Since half way through the first quarter tigers have been by far the better side.

Well the demons are getting a good workout. Pedersen... excellent first quarter but not much so far in the second

Based on watching GWS live against Collingwood and St Kilda they are not getting enough from their talls. In the past these talls were providing an invaluable link up capability. In addition the high press/ heavy zone adopted by many opposition clubs limits their high quality run and carry capability. No question that they will be in the top 4 but they are not the absolute stand out that many including me thought they would become.

Just thought I would bump this thread. Beautiful day and a great way to enjoy high class footy. Come and join us as we wander onto the grounds with the players at the break and just enjoy.

Would be very interesting to see that broken down into set shots etc. With forward pressure I am not surprised by the seemingly low conversion rates. Mind you Greene and then Shield kicked two beautiful goals on the run from different pockets for GWS. On a more serious note the team that cracks the accuracy stakes will go far. How they do it who knows.

No problem with the fend off.. it's when it goes for the throat or the head that it becomes interesting. Never called as a free or worse. Technically neither is round the neck etc but it is a dangerous manouvre especially when directed at the throat.

GWS slowly getting on top. Occasionally you see a glimpse of the running game but their players lack the strength to break tackles They have wonderful agility that does allow them to evade a tackle. Just no good against close checking Amazingly the saints are still in this game

At docklands at present. Very small crowd. Hope the game improves. GWS really struggle against close checking.

Agree Ding we need to shape the message by performing and playing an attractive brand of football. If you want the opposite have a look at how badly Carlton and St Kilda will perform media and finance wise this year.

The last sale of world cup tickets started a couple of days ago which won me an email from FIFA. Anyway their ticketing site had an interesting comment about who bought tickets: "1,698,049 tickets have already been allocated to football supporters from all over the world via the official website at FIFA.com/tickets since September 2017. Most of these tickets have been allocated to Russian fans (796,875), followed by fans from the USA (80,161), Brazil (65,863), Colombia (60,199), Germany (55,136), Mexico (51,736), Argentina (44,882), Peru (38,544), China (36,841), Australia (34,628) and England (30,711) – the top-ten countries from abroad." Australia right up there and ahead of England and every European country bar Germany is a surprise. Must say from reading Guardian articles there seems to be a degree of weariness about the WC with many saying that the WC is no longer that exciting etc and stating a preference for the Champions League etc. This is borne out perhaps by the high number of South American countries featuring in the top 10. Those fans are now forced to go to the WC to see their stars play. The venue for the 2026 WC is between Morocco and a joint US, Canada and Mexico bid. One would think it's an open and shut case but who knows how the politics will play out. The vote takes place on 13 June (the day I arrive in Moscow). Suspect that the FIFA delegates might well be at a more upmarket hotel than my Stalinist era digs on Prospekt Leningradsky.
