Coburg Lions v Casey Scorpions - VFL Round 1
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Really hard to judge the effort today as the Demons were on another level by comparison to Coburg. To me Coburg lacked key defenders and a few talls. It is for this reason that I marked the Weid down from a goal kicking aspect. He did however lays some good tackles and was constantly involved in the game. If he can do it again next week against Werribee (another unaligned club unfortunately) then he will be knocking on the door. Loved Spargo and the group that I call the over 50's (because of their numbers) were not disgraced... Balic, Petty and Baker. I saw Gus in tight a few times but cannot say I really noticed his game. JKH and Pederson put on some one quarter clinics (Pedersen in the second and JKH in the third) and were at least serviceable in the others. All in all a very pleasant day at Coburg Oval ... and a very nice salad roll for $6. -

We are lucky in this country. By co incidence found myself sitting next to a few players and their families. No one bothers them. Great to see -

Pedersen may not have the goals but he was dominant around half forward. Physically he looks like a man among a lot of adolescents. Weid is not imposing himself on the game despite his goals. Coburg seem to lack talls. Spargo could be a find., seems to know how to find the ball -

No one really dominant so far. Demons to the scoring end but wind is swirling -
seriously ??? we are simply irrelevant to Eddie and the other power brokers of the AFL. If anyone challenge the Pies financially it will be Richmond, Adelaide or WC.

we seem to be one defensive tall short in the backline when we play the likes of Norf and GWS who have a multiple tall forward approach. On the other hand will be interesting to see how we structure ourselves against Richmond who play a small forward line. The ease of some of those rebounds were again worrying yesterday but luckily they did not hurt us that much.

Tom McDonald to the back line if Weid improves and grabs a spot prior to Tom's return. Swinging T Mac into offence when circumstances demand.

Posted this on the changes for next week thread and thought it might also be apposite for this thread: "Our present game plan seems to substantially channel the Richmond game plan. If so today's game between Hawks and Tigers will be a fascinating lesson in whether the scramble of Richmond can overcome the precision of the Hawks. A real pity that this is not the FTA broadcast game"

Past history shows you might be right but I think that all on this forum are barracking for Pedersen to challenge for a recall.

Coburg Lions v Casey Scorpions - VFL Round 1

Coburg is a wonderfully located ground near the corner of Bell St and Sydney Road. Easy car parking and a lovely ground at which to watch footy. $5 for MFC members and for those so inclined they have a tent selling local craft beer. Look forward to seeing a few there at 1pm today. I will be watching Brayshaw and the Weid closely as I am sure will be many others. -
Proverbial curates egg perhaps best describes yesterday's game. Good in patches. Then again Fritsch's mark is allowed and the two comedy capers like misses in the second quarter are goals and we have a 55 point win. Deduct two Brown goals for dubious frees and it is almost an 80 point thrashing. Let's be honest North are not a good team and we should have won easier yesterday. I posted on the match day thread that I thought we looked slow. Matthew Lloyd on 3AW made the same comment after the game. Other than Hunt who is sadly out of form who do we have that can provide the necessary explosive dash. As WJ mentions above perhaps it is one of this year's draft picks because I can't think of anyone else at Casey who fits the bill. Same problem with the tall but at least we have two candidates in Weideman and Pedersen. Today's Casey game will be interesting. (1pm at Coburg for those who want to come along...lovely ground). My take is no changes but then again like most others I have been badly amiss at guessing Goodwin's selection strategy this season.

Bugg is one of those kind of players that will win you the big ones if he clicks.... He is the perfect decoy forward
-
good point BBO but I saw some real upside today .. a bit like GWS v Collingwood last week... GWS could not quite click Hawks are a big test.... one we must win if this season is going to be seriously good. Today's win like last weeks was pencilled in by most of us Only thing that worries me is that we are a slow team ... we really need some players that can turn on the after burners
-
Hogan 6 Gawn 5 Bugg 4 (kicked them when we needed them) Petracca 3 Kent 2 (proved me wrong) Tyson 1 (needs the love but it could have been Lewis) And minus 10 for the umpiring ... absolutely bewildering

had an '85 Grange on Easter Sunday ... good colour but no fruit left A "young" shiraz sounds great A quiet whisky after a win is my go ... Go Dees

My 3 word player analysis v North Melbourne
Diamond_Jim replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Funny game today Loved the win but we could have been so much better. I am comforted by watching GWS at the MCG last week against Collingwood. GWS were by miles the more skilful side but Collingwood would not go away and GWS just could not get that final piece of its act together. Some of our forward forays were almost comical in their ineptitude Hats off to Bugg ... if he had not missed that shot on half time I would have him as BOG behind Hogan. Joeboys' summary as usual is good but fair ... one day though he will share his love with Tyson. Perhaps there is a lesson in "resting" Oliver in the forward line -
Couple more please so I can enjoy the last ten minutes of what has been a frustrating afternoon
-
Okay Let's do it. First three goals please

Rarely notice the umpiring but this game is being over umpired
