  1. That video reminds me of the iron man challenges back on the Commerce department lawns at Melbourne Uni many years ago. You wouldn't want to try it after a few beers and hot dogs. I like the frisbee idea... other than someone being hit on the head (and you'd have to be unlucky for it to be going at speed) it sounds safe. Could be impractical in an big outdoor arena like the MCG but worth thinking about similar activities. Certainly more fun than the chook raffle or similar that's run now.
  2. IIRC they were around 55k last year... they may be like the mechanical hare at the dishlickers... tauntingly out of reach
  3. good assessment.... a capable but not outstanding player. Good depth addition but it underlines that there is really not much in the cupboard at Casey in the depth area. This season's success will in the end come down to injuries and dare I say it suspensions. Good luck Jay
  4. so right.... perhaps a racing green jaguar jumper with a Jackie Stewart style cap of course
  5. An omen?? https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/mar/13/jaguar-land-rover-recalls-cars-over-carbon-dioxide-levels Jaguar Land Rover has been forced to recall more than 44,000 cars for repairs after UK regulators found some models were emitting more carbon dioxide than previously thought.
  6. Hang onto your hats people !!! "Club captain Easton Wood displayed the jumper for the first time at the Bulldogs' season launch on Tuesday night and the reaction on social media to the decision was swift and mostly negative. However Iconoclastic's Ben Parsons, the founder of Ministry of Sport and a leading sports marketer, said such innovation was necessary otherwise sporting codes would lose relevance. He also had a message for sports fans trying to make sense of the decision. "You ain't seen nothing yet," Parsons said. "I think they should be applauded for trying to do something different rather than rolling out the same mundane stuff." https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/innovate-or-die-say-sports-marketers-as-bulldogs-jumper-sparks-debate-20190313-p513yu.html
  7. Okay I suppose its for the younger members of the audience but it's getting very close to cringeworthy. Almost Meat Loafesque one could say. Could it be coming from the same marketing area that gave us the AFLX? If so I think they need a little guidance from elsewhere. Stadium entertainment is hard but if you are smart it can be done. I hear the pre game act at the new Perth stadium is a good as it involves the stadium itself coming to life.
  8. Hunt over Spargo.... sorry that just does not compute Will Robinson
  9. shoulder to chest and then a clash of heads...not exactly the same. Perhaps he should have gone but it was different
  10. congrats for trying binman...some on here just don't get the modern game and the all out effort to protect the head. I hope we haven't got a perennial offender in May. With lists so finely balanced we cannot afford suspensions. This or at the latest next has to be our year.
  11. that's what worries me. Last year someone posted a table of supporters as distinct from members and we were way down the list. Definitely need that flag OD. I am getting quite frustrated by our lack of success and fully expect this window to deliver. If not it could be a while until we enter that window again. Players like Oliver and Gawn etc don't come along too often especially at the MFC
  12. you are probably right but overtaking Carlton and getting recognition is an attainable albeit difficult goal 60k should do it
  13. 0n the subject of change there is a move to eliminate the 5000 and 10000 metre races from the diamond league. Each Olympics I find these the most compelling races from a tactical viewpoint but lets face it 10 -20 minutes without an ad break is a hard TV sell https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/mar/11/radical-diamond-league-plans-athletics
  14. There was nothing smart about that bump. The area above the shoulders not just the head is protected if an earlier poster is correct and to me that sounds logical. If there is doubt the club will appeal
  15. if it is only the 10k risk then appeal. Does this come out of the salary cap or the soft cap
  16. that's the nightmare scenario for footy fans where not only is the bulk of football behind pay walls ... it's behind different pay walls requiring multiple subscriptions. Have a look at soccer where in Australia Foxtel have the EPL games but Optus have the Champions League. A terrible result for fans.
  17. the elephant in the broadcast rights is Foxtel. As I understand it they fund over 50% of the bid for what is perhaps 30% of the product. The anti siphoning rules protect only the GF and we have seen with cricket how those rules can be manipulated. One can just see the strategists at Foxtel gaming all the scenarios for the 2022 bid. Kayo ans streaming will be all important. Could we have Optus and the like ambush marketing by taking the Friday night game. The television scene will definitely change
  18. an excellent article on the triple header at Docklands https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/mar/11/womens-masters-a-celebration-of-those-locked-out-for-decades
  19. Of course as the game grows in Asia as evidenced by the ever increasing attendance at the Port Dumpling match and the potential TV audience of 3 billion it is only fair to those legion of fans watching our game in Delhi and Shanghai that we move the GF to a more appropriate viewing time for their time zones. As audiences increase in Africa we may consider a 10pm start in order to maximise world viewing audiences. One has to remember that it is our obligation to take this game to the world!!
  20. Thought I'd play Hogan watch.... 3 kicks .. two handballs... one behind Qtr time
  21. On the Casey website they have yesterday's match listed as the only practice game. Hard to believe given the VFL season does not start until April 7. Perhaps the other games are not listed https://www.melbournefc.com.au/casey-demons/vfl/fixture
  22. Having spent the last couple of weeks in Hanoi I can relate to that !! Hope all the youngsters have a wonderful day
  23. One thing we need to develop is a settled side. Early last year and in 2017 we had a revolving two or three players that would go up or down from Casey depending on form. Unfortunately there seems to be a high chance of that repeating itself over the next few weeks. Stretch and Hunt haven't really done enough to press for senior selection but many have them in the side. If Viney doesn't play we could even see Maynard again. Say what you like about the JLT games but none of the fringe really demanded a spot. Of those first three games I would happily take two wins out of three. Make no mistake this is our window and we have to make it count.
  24. Great post B Bob.... up there with the best we see on Demonland well done
  25. we won the hit outs by a fair margin but lost the clearances decisively. Would love to see the stat for handball clangers because we certainly seemed to have a lot of handballs that did nothing to advance the ball.
