Meanwhile . . . down at Glenferrie Road . . . .
Diamond_Jim replied to JTR's topic in Melbourne Demons
the Haj finished a couple of weeks back so I suspect they are "free". They could fly via Bali thus making them international flights and get around the local regs... I think we may have something!! Do you reckon we could get them painted in Demon Colours? -

Malaysian airlines have a couple of A380's that have been sitting mainly unused for the last few years. They tried to sell them but no takers as well as trying to lease them out. They are now used for the Haj pilgrimage once a year until the lease runs out. Perhaps we could get them over for the finals week and seriously move a few people around. The airfares asked by Qantas etc are ridiculous .. you can fly return to London for the price they ask. -
Changes v Hawthorn - Semi Final

Big call and well argued.... would you consider Fritsch to replace Hannan thus freeing up a spot for Smith -
Changes v Hawthorn - Semi Final

An excellent post.... will be interested to see the response of those who are more tactically minded. The intercepting backman is an important player as is negating that player. -
Interesting contrast between the approach of the AFL and the MCC to selling finals tickets in their respective membership reserves. Both roughly the same size: AFL sells as many as it can as pre-reserved and then allows walk up for what is left. MCC seems to sell around one third as pre-reserved and then has walk up for the rest. (Not sure how many they allot by ballot for the GF.) I know its traditional for MCC members to walk up but one wonders if it is the future.

recall Collingwood supporters saying the Perth return fare went to $1500 or thereabouts when their game was confirmed

The Perth trip does require a little planning so I don't think it's inappropriate to discuss the logistics now. On form we should dispose of the Hawks but we all have a healthy dose of MFCSS which ties us very securely to mother earth. And of course we could not play as badly as round 4 which really was a disgrace. -
definitely go now .. because they won't be there come Friday night... the real problem will be the match tickets.. as the last game in Perth it will be a very very hot ticket PS Think like a Hawthorn supporter... they are probably booking next years GF as well as this one !!

Casey Demons v Essendon VFL Preliminary Final
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Assuming a win on Friday night... (fingers crossed) it will be a marvellous day down at Port Melbourne on Saturday. Burra Burgers and 19 degrees .. what more can one ask for !! -
south west side is fine... the south east is where it can get hairy. Surprised that more people haven't discovered the joys of driving Asia. Malaysia and Thailand are so easy and the price of travel by comparison to Oz is almost zero. I stay well clear of Phuket etc. If you ever get time look up Lake Toba in Northern Sumatra.

Thanks you may well be right and I suspect you are..... but perhaps time to redefine the journey ... Route 66 and all that must say I looked at the "Eucla" motel and let us say that it did not inspire my roaming spirit.Mind you they or somewhere near had a big kangaroo statue. PS Did a road trip through Thailand last year. (good roads). Anyway the hotels down south specialised in big animal statues. Ended up staying in a place with a big yellow boxing kangaroo outside... and no it was not on the tourist route. I'm starting to think a busloads of Demons a la Priscilla Queen of the Desert .... now that would be a trip !!

The End of the Run Through and other random thoughts?
Diamond_Jim posted a topic in Melbourne Demons
Watching the game last night from Perth and it showed the WCE players emerging through what looked like a blow up Eagle jumping castle. Was there a traditional run through banner? More generally I see that some are now made out of plastic and they are more slip underneath etc. Also love to hear from people who have been to the new Perth stadium about the stadium experience itself. Finally... time to get those banner ads off the fence while the national anthem is being played... and can we move on from Julie Anthony. -
'tis the journey not the destination that is important... Pro Hart's old gallery in Broken Hill. The Anzac memorial at Albany Margaret River and the dolphins .. to mention a few and of course the differing culinary delights at the highway roadhouses ... not to mention comparing the steak sandwich offerings of the local pubs

yep it's a question of degree... what if a club makes a wild ball offer for Hogan just like the Dogs did for Boyd say. Match it and then lose who in the years to come along with the acrimony that comes with a wage that is way out of kilter. The giving club doesn't get to match and force a trade. It gets the option to match and see if it can get a trade at that price. You can be assured that the paying club will not trade at that price because the absence of a need to trade has been built into the original offered price. The smart thing is to sign him up now or trade him. Gaff is a perfect example of how a club loses out even if the departing player is an RFA let alone an FA.

interesting... worth having a look at his style of play... his first mark involves the use of the leg but only mildly by comparison to the one much later that brought the howl of protest from the Swans player. The commentators applauded the first mark and then debated the later one. Not an easy line to draw.

Here is a thread on Big Footy discussing the pros and cons of putting on a Collingwood sponsored event for local Magpie fans to watch last night's game in Perth. If they can't do it easily not much chance for lesser clubs such as ourselves. https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/holden-centre-hosting-fans-to-watch-the-wce-final-free-event-see-pg-3.1203387/page-2 PS: My favourite post: "Everybody just go visit my parents, I'll send you the address. They have foxtel and are pies mad. Mum's cooking leaves a little to be desired but i'm sure they'll appreciate the company. There is a second fridge in the garage, but if you get desperate just do an ice run and fill the eskies. See you all there! Good time to arrive is about 90 minutes before the first bounce so you can discuss in depth which player is the most handsome at the club (Mums favourite topic). "

thanks profusely but like many I am trying to gauge the worth of booking plane and accomodation etc but only prepared to do so if there is a realistic chance of tickets.

Does anyone have any knowledge of how the ticketing works for an interstate final? Thanks

Seriously contemplating a nice road trip accross the wonderful Nullabor. Time to dust off the trusty Google maps

Should I start crossing the Nullabor now.

Mmmmmm. Perth in two weeks

Good game... you have to admit... it's the most exciting final so far this weekend

It happens when you are a one team town. Go to a soccer international and you'll see far worse
