  1. For a team that has a good midfield and a couple of decent forwards our delivery into the forward line is average to say the least. That was our A grade backline and it didn't work that well. Hunt should play forward because for some reason he's lost the ability to play down back. O well it was a practice game but we were in the main putrid.
  2. you can even dream of the Crows where there are waiting lists for reserved seats during the home and away season. Not many three game memberships for them.Their revenue stream must be enormous. On the other hand as I understand it the licence is owned by the SANFL so I suspect a fair bit of their profit goes to keep up that competition.
  3. the news is a groin.... have you ever known a quick recovery from such an injury. Could be better when he cools down but 4-6 is what to expect. Nothing particularly pessimistic about it... just being realistic
  4. he plays ... but a bit more work into the alternate ruckmen Preuss sounds like another 4-6 injury Would be nice to have a Richmond like injury list during our window.
  5. Chandler... a pack mark.... tell us more. He's the same size as Charlie Spargo
  6. the actual bias let alone the systemic bias in favour of the large clubs is incredible as we all know. Disband GWS and GCS... transfer them to Tassie as a combined team perhaps. Drop to a 16 round season alternating home and away each year. Geelong plays in Geelong... end of story. Start the season a month later giving AFLW some clear air and move AFLX to VFL level. Perhaps a wild card play off on the week off between home and way and finals. Strangely enough I think attendances in total would not alter too much and the TV stations would bid the same money.
  7. Have been to Casey fields a few times now. It's not too bad save that it lacks atmosphere and public transport. Brings back memories of trekking to Waverley in the 80's. Then we thought Waverley was in the middle of nowhere. Now it's almost an inner suburb still without atmosphere and public transport. I have christened the goals ... the bayside end and the Culloden end ( after nearby Berwick of course).... perhaps we could arrange for a piper or two. Go ye bonny lads !!
  8. The coach salary as I understand it is part of the soft cap. Does anyone know if we have traditionally spent the whole of the soft cap? Of course for the big clubs if they exceed the soft cap they just pay a dollar for dollar equalisation tax
  9. In our heyday our crowds were boosted by the MCG affect. Every opposition supporter looked forward to a day of relative comfort at the MCG by comparison to standing on the terraces at their local ground. It was also the day that the family came along with the traditional male supporter. As our tenancy became less exclusive so went the competitive advantage at the same time we absolutely stank on the field. The perfect storm. We have a very long way back.
  10. can't see it happening 55-60k would be a great outcome and could move us past Carlton
  11. here's the kayo app as a kodi add on for those who are interested https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/2788029
  12. Pleasant reading even if it is followed by an article on HWMNBN
  13. wasn't he supposed to be on around $1.4M plus... if so there must be a very big backend Tiges banking on an increase in the salary cap with the next TV deal
  14. Well I have now subscribed to Kayo and can report that it works well after watching a little of the JLT game between Essendon and Geelong. I have installed the app on my nvidia shield. Had the occasional buffering issue but I suspect that was caused by my VPN slowing down the internet speed. Where I am located they are now offering cheap broadband plans (around A$30 per month) with 1Gbs speed so with a bit of luck that should take care of the buffering issue. An enormous improvement over watching the low quality SD broadcast on the Australia Channel
  15. That system could be the savouir of the MFC. At present the draw is so compromised in favour of the power clubs ... and we're not one of them
  16. For the first time in Brisbane's history, the Men's Team, Women's team and NEAFL team will all travel to Melbourne to play over one weekend. https://www.lions.com.au/news/2019-03-06/the-roarport
  17. Probably right. Would also like to see the VFL season start bought into line with the AFL start. The first VFL game for Casey is after the AFL team have played three rounds
  18. Interesting that Viney, Jones and Melksham will play a practice game at VFL level. (Does anyone have details of the other team and time etc.) I like it as it gives Stretch and JKH another chance to push for a spot in the last JLT. Wonder who will be the relief ruck for Gawn at AFL level.... Keilty??
  19. the median salary which is probably more telling than the average is around $250k Given that few players get to 100 games... (is it around 20%) it's certainly not life changing money for the bulk of the players. All the more important to have another skill. I enjoy ribbing my Bulldogs friend about Tom Boyd but they just point to his one decent game in the GF
  20. Three teams ranked as 1-5. MFC, Richmond and WCE. Boy we are in rarified company. Could this be it guys ? ... nervous just thinking about it The first three games will be crucial. Port, Geelong and Essendon. We are favourites in all three and need to win them. Last year we would have said they are 50/50 games but this year they are more like 60/40
  21. Personally I often turn the Friday night game off at half time. Rarely watch the Sunday afternoon game. Like the Thursday and Saturday night games. Will quite often turn the sound down as I find the commentary grating....especially Bruce
  22. Good hitout and one has to temper any comment by the weather conditions and the inability to tell what side each team had on the oval at any one time. That being said there seemed to be only a few positives from the fringe brigade. I was hoping that one of them would have a "look at me" performance but it wasn't to be. Based on last year there are at least two spots up for grabs. One as a relief midfielder given the possibility of injury to the first picked group and one to replace Lewis as the season progresses. Hope JKH plays next week and has a stand out game. Late last year he showed glimpses. I'll be honest Stretch worries me and the jury is well and truly out on Hunt. The last few seasons have shown us clearly that having an A grade VFL side does not mean you have depth at AFL level. Conversely I watched Brayshaw closely at VFL level while he was there and he rarely starred. On that form I would never have picked him for the incredible season he displayed at AFL level in 2018. Would have liked to see KK in the JLT as well. Going to be a great season.
  23. some good logic in that post
  24. Is it though with the majority of the tickets sold to corporates and MCC members. The overwhelming bulk of the football following public have no choice but to consume the match through television. Perhaps it could be described as television in front of a live audience.
  25. Casey lacks the romance of the old ovals but it is still a great day out. For food ...Port with its dim sims and Burra burger win hand downs. Coburg even has a craft beer stand. Mind you fish and chips on the Esplanade ($10) prior to a game at Williamstown is pretty special as well.
