Sooo What about letting Neeld continue till end of contract Have review with Neil Craig to give objective advice as head coach adviser whatever, before season end but with enough time to prepare for positive transition. Neeld to be retained as mid field coach (If he wants it) and given greater priority to draft and recruiting of midfield this year. New game day coach appointed for structural development of plans A B C D and E at least with greater input into selection based on strategies designed to negate strengths of specific opponents.or exploit strengths of our list also as appropriate against specific opponents We need to have greater flexibility and not rely on the one single game plan Try to ensure we have a diverse mix of skills Use the skills and abilities of what we have Craig to oversee all positions and to ensure game day coaches plans are able to be met within the squad that zone/ line coaches are handling.

I reckon the best thing is that there are a number of sides presented which does show that we the supporters think we have the cattle. Yes to give Viney a rest,- he probably thinks he doesnt need it. How about Howe - deep in the forward line where he can use that fantastic spring for any high ball into the top of the square. Watts on the wing - where he can idle around as the link man getting to the right position to get the ball and then use his pace and delivery to put it to anyone presenting. Sylvia does seem to be enjoying being the centre of attention so keep him there As for the rest give em more of what they had at 3/4 time and tell em to go get em

Im stuck here at work with only the computer Thanx everyone for your comments still hoping!!!!

Dont want to make this a Jack Watts thread but I wonder why they havent played him on a wing where he can drift back and forward to provide the extra man in defence and an additional target up forward. He does seem to have pace and does have an excellent sense of creating space. If his teammates looked for him and worked off him he could perhaps get his confidence back and regain his skills which have been so noticeably affected

You havent been speaking to Danks have you Master?????? -
It surely comes down to the coach. I am not calling for instant dismissal but he is surely running out of time. I dont know what he presented on appointment but his approach did seem to unsettle all playing group. Making co captains from youngest group may have been a long term strategy but may have such a short term impact that it doesnt eventuate. He has now cut and replaced and the feeling throughout the off season seemed ok but has not been sustained and may have been irreparibly destroyed unless the coach can find something he has not displayed. robbiefrom13, on 14 Apr 2013 - 21:26, said: Perhaps the board etc placed too much expectation on Neeld

For a moment there I thought it read banana beard So many possibilities

I particularly noticed the lack of second efforts by our players when compared not only to essndun but also other teams I have seen on Tv. The second effort of tackling after losing or shepherding after giving off the ball. Jack Viney and Jones are the only 2 who seemto give that extra pressure. Chasing an opponent when they have the ball and putting that pressure that makes them turn it over doesnt seem to happen. Lack of run to provide an option also seems to be lacking I am only seeing it on the screen but am certainly looking for improvement if we ever get on TV again.

If Neeld is still struggling next year, ????????????? I can accept Neeld struggling this year but I would still expect improvement

I agree with most of your post but have difficulty with. " our playing group is just inept and incompetent?". This is almost unfounded as many have stated . These players have survived and endured a prolonged assessment of abilities and skills and been subjected to close inspection. "a young coach struggling to impose a new systems and standards at the club" may have relevance if the word impose is accurate. Neeld has apparently initiated many changes delisted and selected players and has ultimate responsibility for the game. He may have neglected using the resources (players skills ) he had to the best effect while imposing new systems and standards. It is a complex issue and I just hope there are wise heads in the club sifting through the many comments made here on Dland and adding to their intimate knowledge when trying to improve our situation

Maybe she did, maybe she didn't! Maybe they did! rather than stu it would be better if this was explained. I know some of the players are kids and I know that mothers (and fathers) would almost always defend their child but a senior coach should be able to address these concerns clearing the air is probably a better solution than leaving remarks to fester.

Thanks for the reports again KC Do you get to see any of the Dees matches and can you notice any stand out differences in set up structure and strategy in the game plan you mentioned the intensity is this because the game is played at a different pace ie was the opposition low level, Do the players seem to have more confidence in themselves and their teammates?

I wish I could look at the replay. My obviously defective memory says that Jamar started with first hand on the ball, directed it to static melb player who was tackled by esndn player, or the ball hit a moving esndn player on the chest as they anticipated where the ball would go. Jamar is predictable to everyone including our players but they tend to stand waiting for the ball. He always handballs when he gets the ball in the field, kick outs are directed to him so he has a pack situation pick up the crumbs when ball spilled, then he got tired and dispirited as there was no backup ruck support and barely provided a contest.. The comment about sylvia roving the opposition is what good flexible sides do. Clarke rucking is then denying our main forward. I wasnt at the game and was only aware of what was shown on tv didnt see if Jamar was rotated through the bench. the players confidence is so down they cant mark or handle the ball cleanly want to give it away before they have it and usually to a player in a worse position I am hoping the coaches go through it and make something of it?????????????????

GET THIS TO NEELD, CRAIG,SCHWAB and lets hear their comments and see their actions

Im still not convinced that the board and admin mob are the problem. Yes they are responsible. They took an assistant coach and an experienced mentor and provided facilities and support staff, Dont know what they are doing have done in private but they need to do a little more publically perhaps that was the point of the pre game cover Unfortunately this seemed to me to show a coach with little to offer and players with little interest in the message I have not criticised Neeld but am beginning to think hes not up to it. How the Board and the CEO handle it will tell if they are up to it I do not support wholsale sacking and dismissal. Revolution does need to have some structure and organisation. So alternatives must be prepared I havent seen an orderley and comprehensible identification of "THE Problem" I think there are many parts to it. obviously we are not winning games and our players abilities are deplorable . That to me seems the first problem to address

An observation I had that had me yelling at the TV was that our players were continually on there own in a bit of space forward or back while essendon ran round into the areas between them often in numbers so they could do what they wanted. our blokes were flat footed and static while essendon were mobile. even around a pack our blokes were waiting for the ball to come to them and were flatfooted when it did Essndon were moving around so that wherever it came they were able to benefit. Probably just selective viewing and memory but it sure was frustrating.

I thought Jamar was getting hands on the ball all first qtr and slowly got ground down However his distribution was fantastic for essndon as he put it on the chest of our player who they tackled or direct to them as they hit the contest at speed. It seems that we needed some variation but the players seem incapable of knowing what to do Commentators Richo and DArcy who both played in some pretty dark days for their clubs said that as a player you start to play for yourself, watching your man etc and this may be some of the problem. Confidence in your teamamtes but confidence in knowing that if you handpass they will be running on, if you kick under pressure they will get to the fall, if you go to get the ball you will be shepherded or supported. Its pretty dark times for our group and they are going to have to work as hard as we do to continue our support

How about honouring contracts but telling Craig to take overall responsibility in caretaker Neeld to coach mid field (a role he was apparently pretty good at) and see if we can work through this horrible mess Players to lose beards and concentrate on playing I cannot believe that Watts has been reduced to the fumbling player he now is and all players seem affected by the same uncertainty bug Even Jack Viney seemed to hesitate. Get rid of it and we wouldnt be worrying about the CEO

Fantastic expressions from everyone. Thanks for sharing. it makes me humble and proud to join in on Dland. The things that make us different make us the same, we all have deep emotions and passion.

How and why did you become a Melbourne supporter?
dpositive replied to Webber's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have told my story before From a time when football was simple Dad a St Kilda supporter (he grew up next to E "the Tank" Guy) took me to the junction oval to watch a game Melb V Saints and I would become a saint like him. Howling gale Morrow taps to Baldock who pushes it to Stewart who pushes it to Cooper who pushes it through for a point. Tassie Bob drop kick sails over the pack assembled at CHF Dixon ponces and dlivers to Big Bob who slots a goal. Wow say I.Lucky says the old man, have some peanuts ( from the guy who carried the sack of bags around the ground at 3 pence a bag) This went on for about 4 points and goals I became addicted to peanuts in the shell Lucky he visited every game in the league as I grew up (was he the first cloning experiment) and much to dads disgust I became a demon supporter> I dont think he cares that much as neither of us has had great success But it is still the team I love and will be whatever happens. I just hope the players and coaches are readingsome of this site and are hurting as much as we are. Go Dees -
Wow Robbie A clearly and simply expressed description. Thanks. For all the comments on all the threads I think I like this most of all. I am not sure about your reference to admin staff preferring their own company, but agree with all else. This is Neelds list and his style of footy. The CEO and board did appoint him and gave him 3 yrs. The fact that he wasnt expecting what happened and more significantly that he had no alternative action is the most salient point. I will give him a little longer (till the end of his contract) before saying he has failed. But it sure doesnt look good at the moment. The CEO and the board will be judged by their actions over this appointment. I dont know the circumstances or obligations of the CEO contract but am a little surprised he was given 3 yrs given that he does have obvious problems with the media and therefore in representing the club. He does seem to have a track record of ensuring the FD has the resources they need (including the ability to secure the players the coach wanted) so he has had some success. The CEO is not the coach and I hope he doesnt try to be. I would want him to remind the coach of the requirements of his job to get the best out of the players and deliver some on field success. The coach must then remind the players of their skills their priveleged position and the need for them to perform to continue. But yes we need premiership success and unless there is a massive change I fear for the future of the club.

I have struggled to read through all the comments on most threads and am hesitant in commenting Coz didnt see the game and have had very little exposure to any comment other than Dland. I am not a Neeld apologist but have been supportive of his actions as they seemed to have some consistency with his comments. I was always concerned that he seemed to be focused on his plan and was recruiting and dispensing players to that plan. I was concerned that he did not seem to appreciate the differences of players and seemed to want to mould them all into his ideal. I was concerned that he did not acknowledge improving what he had but rather turning over and replacing. ie developing which should be the cornerstone of the coach. I was happy however with the flexibility he showed and the recruiting seemed to have focus. I had always expressed a desire to see plans ABCDetc and was excited by the potential I have supported Melbourne long enough to see various plans and various levels of success although no flags in my adult life I accepted the direction of the club even the bloody blazer debate I have enjoyed dland and the obvious passion of the committed members I am really worried about the sentiments expressed here but understand them as I am a touch despondent myself. However I would not sack the coach anymore than I would sack Sylvia (who represents a lot of the unfulfilled expectation) Using Sylvia as and example he could be anything but if he fails at this club he will likely not attract a huge price at any competitor this applies to Neeld and every other player. I have expressed disatisfaction with the fact it takes players time to get the message as they are profesionals and so is the coach and administrators.. They must get it right to receive the remuneration they are getting. Neeld has a contract based on his presentation which hopefully included some outcome measurements including success if he doesnt achieve he would not be extended and we should try and recruit a coach with a different plan. As has been stated Port seem to have picked up Hinkleys message . However we really wont see for a few matches yet and it may even be beyond round 6 or 7 it may be not eeven known until very late in the season so I would merely remind them as a group and individuals that they are playing for their future, the future of the supporters, and the future of the club. I would like to think we can continue but I have seen mergers and relocations I have seen Fitzroy. It is certainly an exciting time.

Probably not but unlikely to get a gig next season
