  1. I thought Sellar did enough useful things yesterday and has performed a role all year This makes Bate and Moloney noticeable due to the lack of useful things done I dont see many games or patches so may be unaware but I am sure the coaching team are noting contribution carefully. McKenzie tackling creqates pressure which often allows somone else to use it with intent.
  2. I did get some feelings of relief that we werent blown away in the last that there were many instances of good play to match the shockers there were signs of improvement from what was hardly our best side (injuries) that the season is ending and we can look forward to solid training repoorts from a squad that will get older and bigger BUT I also noticed that there is a real difference in our game against watching the other broadcasts games Our players do see lighter and less able to break tackles and make tackles Also our players were more stop start rather than flowing in any phase of the game . even the little hanpss gives were often to a static player rather than somone moving and we never seem to kick the ball in front of a moving player for them to run on to. This may be a matter of confidence and maybe a matter of fitness so I am hoping to see major improvement for next season All good I reckon GO DEES
  3. I find the use of FA a useful intellectual journey would you get a FA for FA or perhaps pay FA for a FA Are all FA's FA are any FA's FA Dont need any assistance with this conundrum can enjoy the self analysis or delusion.
  4. Very interesting thread with the occaisonal outbreak of personal invective due to frustration. Again I have run out of likes Its probably all reflective of following the dees but as an involved observer I dont really see the need to refer to someone with a different perspective or interpretation (even if it is wrong) as a Nuffie, idiot, stupid etc usually it is pretty obvious and the impact of the point is diminished with the outburst. BUT there obviously is some disagreement but I prefer the many more points of agreement within the arguments and there has been some interesting detail revealed. I didnt realise MM let go 13 didnt think you could make that drastic a change to a list so there may be some greater scope for change than I had imagined. While it may be unfortunate to see that many go there is no doubt something has to give . The appointmeny of Neeld was only the begginning. I have said before that I dont see Neeld as the only factor in culture change and we may not even need a total culture change. I have been re-reading some of MArtin Flannigans articles on the club Hes got to be one if the best journo/ authors around and I think he has identified many of the aspects of culture that are good and great about MFC Certainly debate and issue raising will help identify the change and confirm what we need to embrace. I think undoubtably the major factor which Neeld does have direct responsibility for is that we need to win (I am also sure that the culture of the club is not that we lose all the time) we have had our share of defeat it is now time to win The players need to know that and when that part of the culture is restored we can see how we measure against some of the other features of our culture. Sorry to take up so much time and space with my inane ramblings but I have been inspired by the richness of the debate.
  5. Given the eclectic mix of this site thought I,d throw in a snippet Bloke in town who have had many conversations with about many matters but not footy saw me in my car today and noticed my Demons scarf (I know tragic isnt it??) Says "follow the dees do you" yes "I played 7 games with em" says Barry Hodges "Billy Barrott was taken off me in myonly memorable game" Didnt have the physiology capacity to make it at league level but did move to Port lincoln Same colours as DEES and made the team of the century there. Is now in Beechworth and gauranteed some more refined discussions on the higher order intellectual matters such as wether moloney should be traded or spencer perservered with OR maybe Ill just continue the existing friendship and discuss matters usely contained on this thread such as race results olympics etc?
  6. All the best to Brad Ran out of likes as Dlanders remind us of the great things this club can do Hope Brad can retain his strong links with the club It would be interesting to see his opinions expressed on Dland Should we offer him membership for an interesting perspective?
  7. YDE i think you might have too much time on your hands if your listening that closely to Shannon Noll. I would reckon there are many songs that could be applied to MFC particulary Blues related but I have rarely followed the lyrics of one song that closely so I do admire your thoroughness. And I do like your creativeness and enthusiasm (passion) for the DEES That song should also inspire Neeld with the level of support you display BUT I also would worry that you may see Neeld as the sole factor for success. It is the Melbourne club, the team of coaches, the team of players, the team of supporters who will together participate in the success. While its true he may be and must be a major factor it will only happen when we are all able to contribute what we have. If you still have time you could look for some similar inspiration for other players Maybe starting at Morton Spencer sylvia and Moloney etc those who are more under attack on Dland than others. I am sure they and we all could be inspired by songs of support. Keep the passion. GODEES
  8. Perhaps Wallsy will now say that Melb are that hopeless that they cant tank properly OH who cares
  9. Not sure youll get much support from Freak with this analysis but it sure shows some consideration Thanks
  10. BH I did like your post coz there is some truth in it What you are largely refferring to is the playing culture and you are correct with all the examples you give, Was that playing culture an identified part of the club culture? was it desirable that players achieved in spite of the coach? (perhaps if achievement was part of the club culture) I think you might be underestimating the president the tealady and the supporters of Brisbane perhaps they all wanted that success and recognition so badly that it infused the team of players Are the three leaders now going to be overridden by their players leadership group culture? Can they or should they impose their culture over an existing culture? It is what makes it so difficult and Im not even sure there is a logic to it but rather than try and impose my will I will continue to try and monitor the culture of this club and as i Said hope that someone can collate the valid expressionns of Dland perhaps we just might find a Dland culture Perhaps we might find that the dland supporters culture reflects all supporters the members and is embraced by thepresident and the tea lady the coach the leadership groupand the players I just hope that we are all in accord and that there is not conflict between any "cultures".
  11. I also wonder with disposal and decision making, how much is dependent upon teammates. Watts always seemed to get caught as his first instinctive reaction often wasnt matched by the alertness or expectation of those around him. As they all learnt to work with what they had there was a marked improvement in his disposal. Not surte and havent seen enough of the play but is McDonald disposing poorly because his teammates arnet ready for him to get it and/or dispose of it to them?
  12. Just a thought on Injuries I could just be ducking for cover on the culture research Could it be that injuries are an outcome of how the game is played YES obviously BUT Do teams that receive more protection from the umpires reflected from the awarding of free kicks have a better injury rate than than those receiving less free kicks. If you play tackle or are tackled poorly does this produce injuries or are there more injuries occurring because of overextension etc. Perhaps our high injury count is because our younger smaller less developed body types are being smashed by older larger better developed body types. Can improved umpire protection restrict some injuries? It may require access to obscure statistics (where is stan from stradbroke when you need him)
  13. Thanks OD I guess I am waiting to see if the club can develop him as they have with Watts. As with comments about Howe Id hate to see him line up and star against us if traded. I think those 2 examples do show us that there is an improved FD mentality for development
  14. I should add that the responses add to the "culture topic" I think
  15. There has been comment on this on other threads the gist seems to support you that Morton should not have been cheered as he was injured Some have said didnt know he was injured Others that it was not cheering an injury but that he had been taken off ablett who he was tagging ineffectually Others that it was not cheering but moans of exasperation Given that one poster indicated he had cheered and the response received for that was less than charitable Including being told that they were not a true supporter I doubt wether anyone else will acknowledge hwhat actaully happened Not being there or even knowing about it it will be interesting to see how the couch people report it.
  16. Old D would like you thoughts on MOrton even if you didnt go specifically to watch him Is he worth perservering with? other posters are still divided into the outright no or maybe yes Helooks light and maybe soft but as I have said before we dont want a team of tanks.
  17. Jarka did you follow TimD's advice which I thought was fantastic.
  18. The exchange between Chook and Cowboy is fantastic fodder for the "Culture" debate For what ists worth I agree with both of you BUT and this is a joke Ive never seen Ussain Bolt with a vacuum cleaner and I just got silver for vacuuming the shop! Thought I done ok pb all that but the boss( amd we all know who SHE is) said it was not a Gold medal job. Oh well Ill just keep competing. Still reckon I can beat UBolt
  19. Havent had enough reflection and would not be so presumptous as to say I could present the only and total solution. not being critical but I think I have been told that from a pure maths perspective 110% is impossible as that mark then becomes 100% the full value against which other things are measured but I also do get your drift as well as deeluded with whom I also agree BUt there are aspects of out and out "tenacious attitude" or "hard edged style thatare as equally negative as a "continued politeness" and "understanding" Apathy at success can also creep in to a hard nosed club until you develop an unsociable or undesirable attitude . I think I said it was complicated and I am reassured that we have a richness at Melbourne that is still craving our turn at success and is passionate about our club but is able to recognise the broader elements of competition.
  20. Dont know wether its a bad omen or a bad pun looking forward to some sun setting may be better Good luck GO DEES
  21. They are the two greatest imponderables and have me reaching for my text books Although ultimately the culture needs to come from within and be embraced by all. That does include as I said supporters and maybe we are finding it from the diversity of Dland contributors Im probably hoping someone like old dee will start a spreadsheet or similar to consolidate in a simple fashion I did like " the hardest side to play" as part of the culture but there already exists much within the MFC history, and administration already which can and probably should be applied. I always remember being taught dont throw the baby out with the bathwater and to obtain it we need to have the players who are going to present that option to their opponents on the field that week I have said on other threads we may lose but if like the olympic rowers (who finished nowhere I think) the competitors were totally and utterly spent having given their best they lose no respect from me. This argument is alittle disjointed and I hope you get my drift Will probablyy return to it after a suitable period of reflection.
  22. Loved the burger metaphore and appreciate the wit that is within the Dland fraternity Would love to see this thread expanded at the expense of another draft or culture topic Cant we get all draft comments which I do find interesting from my ignorant position into a single referenced thread BUT I am interested in whats the topping of the above demon slayer I think I may need to avoid it
  23. Dont know if its better???? but yeah thanks I actually enjoyed the 40th and a couple of kids were amazed with my ability to dance frantically I put my uncoordinated joltings down to a combination of I was never in danger of being drafted and didnt play heavy contact footy. Skiing, squash and cycling all contribute to underlying fitness and iM pretty happy with that Dont want to think that said uncoordinated joltings could be the onset of some old person illness not yet diagnosed but will keep on following the dees and dland to maintain the mental stimulation.
