  1. My favourite acronym (referenced an another thread) not listed here is TLA It is of course the perfect tuatology as it is the three letter acronym for Three Letter Acronym. Much favoured in the 80's and 90's business colleges ther TLA was almost made redundant by the FLA (Four Letter Acronym) and for those really modern and important occasions the 5 letter acronym. Of course SLA's (6&7) were given even greater significance if they could be constructed into a legitimate word, with additional credit when the word was either tautologous to the phrase or more significantly totally opposite to the phrase. I cannot recount any but they were much loved in the highest levels of management obscurity. It was perhaps significant that a new generation has adopted the acronym (although most do not know what that word means) as an efficient method of communication. Efiiciency can often be overlooked as laziness. But thats another topic Perhaps this should be included in the NO BS thread NO I think I can JBW (Just Blame Watts)
  2. Brilliant. Confirms my self diagnosis of others far more able than myself. And no one likes a tla or fla more than me .
  3. Almost too cryptic for me Dc/ err on the deliberatly unthinking side. I do have a reputation for BS although I think it is undeserved. Am working on my deliberation being too slow and my thinking too irrational so may have to consider freudian reference to add a degree of pseudo legitimacy
  4. It is. Although it is also the noB$ thread and I would be devasted if that was enforced
  5. I take it you dont listen to him anymore?? forgot the sign for intended humour. Its the best I can do but I do enjoy reading most other contributors
  6. Everything about this post is great. Toumpas has desire (attack) Fitness coaches closely monitoring balancing his desire with conservatism (defense) working within limits for both immediate term and long term outcomes. Its called player management Thankfully its pre season or such player management would be considered tanking Perhaps the example can be used in defense of any AFL charges
  7. Is also an opportunity to improve the perception of the club. If these kids are treated well and can see the professionalism that appears to be more prevalent they will spread the good news about Melbourne. It would be good to be viewed as rivals to other clubs in this off field fashion. Sends all the right messages.
  8. I agree and have always maintained that Cam Bruce and Brad Green were affected the same way with the need to make them more defensive and plug gaps. They were out and out strikers ( to use a soccer term) who created and scored goals but after their defensive times lost that shock value. Davey was always defensive in attack with his speed and ability to read play. He easily adapted to the pure defensive role. I hope he can provide that forward spark that he was always displaying, his beautiful delivery will always be enjoyed.
  9. I would agree BUT I am disturbed that others in the pub or at social occasions never fail to bring up the latest revelation. This is done deliberatley to stir me and usually has the desired effect. Unfortunately no one is ever interested in a comprehensive well structured response and I am not one to provide a F#$@ U response. I try to distil the commentary from Dland but do get the feeling that nonone really cares as long as we are in the firing line. The only thing I see changing this situation will be some on field success, we can then say that the afl equalisation plan has worked and we are as successful at tanking as all other clubs.
  10. Would be interesting to see a consolidation of all selected sides. I think we have only a few single position placements from all . Perhaps it could be a bit early to place Clark.
  11. The diversity of opinions expressed reflects the value of the proposal History is important. You learn from past experience. Dont repeat mistakes and replicate success. Of course you must modify to adjust to changed circumstances. The blazers are just a tool to indicate unity and can appear quite substantive and intimidatory (poerful) in a group presentation the boater and sockds not adopted would diminish both these appearances as linked (historically) to school boy appearance. The trombonist not universally acepted? Correct. The fact that supporters are being engaged to find an alternative is however a reflection of the above and a progressive move. We have learnt from this introduction and now trying to improve. This is an AFL directive??? so better to comply with something that is more universally accepted. I like many do not like the US model and am uncertain of exactly what we should have. I have a very eclectic taste and have been personally inspired by some music I hesitate to impose my views on others though and wonder what the purpose of this is. Personally I would love something like the anthemic "Treaty" (Yothu Yindi) as it has an intensity that is unique and inspirational. Wether this fits with the aim of the idea is unknown. Music expression varies rapidly, Classic, traditional, popular. electronic, god even hip hop can be inspirational and emotive. As the club has some fantastic musicians in its supporter base I would like to hear their opinions and would be likely to support them. David Bridie has excellent credentials. The purpose is important and I would prefer we identify this as entertainment, and allow some flexibility to be applied, perhaps we could even have a selection each week from a supporter and acknowl;edge this on the scoreboard. This provides and recognises our clubs diversity, involvement and transparency, while not weakening our marketing brand. our passion and our history. Thanks Col and others for making me think.
  12. Am really appreciating this travelogue. Hope that your efforts to restore the reputations of all involved in the sordid tale are rewarded. (restoring does not imply only improving) I am confident that we have the most able and determined representatives undertaking this task. Only the obvious talent that is being exposed through Dland reporting will resolve the greatest threat to life as we know it. continued expose will make Dland compulsory reading for any journalist, sportsperson, politician needing to retain a link to reality. What will the Sydney perspective on Melbourne tanking be??? The next gripping episode promises so much! Lets hope that unlike the Wilson inspired fairytale it can deliver.
  13. Sort of rolls out pretty well DM,MN,NC or DMNC phonetic demons
  14. What a delight WJ I trust the cruise continues for some time! Seems to be developing into a case of "Wheres Wally" .
  15. I think I( can recall saying the same thing last year but I do see even more flexibility in the teamwhich can only be a good thing . some game plans and some opponents might need a taller less mobile option while others need tall mobile, others small tough,or smaller gile, and obviously a mix of all. We seem to have a squad that provides that flexibility in all parts of the ground so I am hoping all the above predictions and many not mentioned are all correct and all play a part in the improvement.
  16. The rule changes may even assist the russian as it could mean the centre tap ruck man does that and drifts only to chf and chb playing the extra attack or defend option while one defender and one forward is asigned the ruck duties when quick transition occurs. It may however make us regret the trade of Martin who showed that he wqas able to cover a lot of ground. Whatever it is going to be interesting to watch how the coaches and players handle this I reckon we have afar better complement of both to really benefit this year. I expect some very exciting supporting.
  17. I reckon feeding him from a red and blue bowl would soon convert him
  18. I doubt that Hef could have the stimulating conversation likely in your company (if this thread and site is anything to go by) and while his much publicised life has had its highlights I am sure they are all proportional to those you have had. We can all conentrate on what we have not what we wished we had or what others have and we can progress. I unfortunately do not have the pleasure of your company but then you are not enjoying a swim in my pool. Its a bloody great life and the Dees will have some sort of a year. Dont get me started on "living" on $35 a day either
  19. How will sports journalism handle the blatant actions of the revered Australian cricket Board and its emphasis on "player management" as the side for the forthcoming Ashes series is developed. Will there be cries to crucify the selectors as the Aussies wallow in the rankings preparing for the ultimate challenge. If ever there is a cogent corollary for "Tanking" it has to be "Player Management" What a defence!
  20. I was going to mention Milawa and I believe on another wine tour GreatWestern was bedecked in red And blue playing a grand final It was a few years ago and travelling sporadically around Vic and SA i was amazed at the numkber of clubs that sported the Melbourne colours and were playing grand finals it lifted my spirits not just the alchohol related ones. If I remember quite a few won.
  21. I have to disagree I have never known Dees to be nice Comfortable safe and unthreatening It does fit well with GO Dees which can be yelled in a variety of rythms and is a compacted aggressive sound it also can be expressed easily with a number of mouth positions, clenched teeth, subdued whisper, and emphasis can be placed on the first or second word for emphasis changing the context. While DEmons can be similarly used it is only with the emphasis on the two syllabyls(?? spelling) that can alter the feeling. I would never propose abolition of Demons as it also so evocative and redolent of the history and glory and even the hell of promise and despair that I have experienced. I hope to use both as we storm to success and hope you can compromise and join me as we recognise that we are indeed DEMONS and THE DEMONS as we go Go Dees!!!
  22. I'd like them to earn it now! Really mixed thoughts on this as my likes show. agree with most sentiments dumb, bad decisions, holiday, privacy, profile, rocket scientists, kids, tea cup, minor, poor impression, press beat up, Hope they can move on its all part of growing up. its all part of learning If they are required to meet standards and do or exceed them our attitude may change if they continue unchanged it would be worse. It will be interesting to see how Neeld Craig etc handle or dont handle it. I probably wont be disappointed in either approach if we see some success.
  23. Ahh that explains My finest work lost in the alternative universe to which i was refferring. I could be the idiot and apologise for any depression caused by my return Happy festive season see you in the new year
  24. Thought I responded to this post and all went blanck Eggnog??? Fire????? Normal???? I must be in a parrallel universe its so bloody hot here.
