I will add to my training report and in saying i agree with deeZee thats its in the head. How about we get a training report that says we saw the intensity of a match applied during training. So what if we get more injuries due to hard contact, we seem to be getting them anyway. I recall reading of comments from players trying to break into Hawthorn sides years ago that they were regularly ironed out at training by an incumbent determined to hold their spot in the team against an obvious challenger. Execute skills at training under pressure and you are more likely to execute them under pressure in a match. I hope Roosy is working on that head space.

Sorry Deezee thought the first line would give it away as my mild form of humour. Its not all lies as it does outline some of the things that should be being done but it is unfortunate that it is a lie and we dont read of this happening. It would be nice to know if there is anything like the team building going on as that does seem to be a major problem. Another thread points out that many of the players were chosen for their leadership ability and perhaps that is part of the problem they all think they can lead and we have no real doers.

Opened the thread hoping to see that MFC had an on field training session following an all player and coaching staff meeting where video analysis of other clubs were watched. The analysis showed that players attacking the ball were given the benefit of free kicks and were able to make mistakes because they were supported by their teammaates who provided outlets or shepherding to allow space. Players were alerted to the fact that players ran to space and their teammates kicked to that space where numbers gathered to repeat the above actions. When marks or free kicks were given they were taken quickly and directed at a player in space. Players ran onto balls that were kicked into space and closed down opponents who were running into space. Players were able to witness the team characteristics where players were acknowledged by their teammates not ignored Players were directed to take their first initiative option their teammates were directed to understand what any teammate would do and act on that. I know its difficult but Roos has stated its a confidence thing and I reckon if they watch other teams they might see that they too make mistakes but also have persistence . We have been used to persisting with too few resources . We now have better resources although we have obvious injuries but it is time for those that we have to step up to their potential. The training session was not so much a skill session but a fun session where players tried to match the endeavour of Jones and tried to anticipate what Jack Watts would do when they gave him the ball. There was constant movement the whole session as players created space. There was a renewed intensity that was maintained for the whole session after which the players stayed together and discussed their relationships. Players became teammates and understood Why and How they must work together. External issues were solved through working together so that concentration on the matter of playing elite football was possible No such luck

I have seen some thoughts throughout the thread that I recognise from my own long years of support. comments 208,258 and 271 could have been written by me. I saw so many times players running into space when we won the ball or a rare free kick whilst the player with the ball ignored or did not see the opportunity and was often called to play on and selected the wrong option. I saw that even on kicking out whoever was performing stalled looking for options eventually being called to play on until they took the wrong one in panic. I saw players standing in space uncertain as to which W C player to to tackle or chase and by the time they made a panicked decision it was too late. I reckon Roos needs to watch a few videos with the boys of other teams and then see the difference between some of our play. I think he is right it is a lack of confidence and the uncertainty that is created from that. The players dont seem to trust their teammates or themselves. I think thats why Jones Cross and very few others, look so much better, they do trust themselves and their actions and just keep going. Of course they also make mistakes but 3 mistakes out of 30 looks more impressive than 3 out of 6. Shepherding, making space, running with a player tackling seem foreign skills to our side. When it is done those around the performing player seem to stop and watch rather than get involved. West Coast players had time to do things as our players seemed so uncertain as to what to do and were laying off players rather than attacking the ball. I was willing to give Bailey and Neeld some time, I recognised that we may not have had all the cattle but said the coach had to work with what they had and eventually committed to the sack the coach approach. The task for Roos is still huge and game plans and strategies obviously difficult with injuries but he must still make it work. I saw more intensity and I saw less dropping of shoulders but not for sustained periods or at the right time. Confidence is a strange ability and I hope Roos can lift that factor to allow the many fine players and skills that we have to emerge in a more sustained fashion. Watch how other teams do it they do not have any different things to us some have champions and match winners, some are older or bigger but all have a mix of slow, fast, good, bad players. It is the essence of teamwork that all these components work together and it is the coaches responsibility to get that working. I think Roos can do it because any other thought is impossible to contemplate. Sorry rant over I feel better now

I reckon you have it again The plain MFC looks traditional and professional and I like that the demon logo looks modern and active like that also the red and the blue can be used effectively and is why we should insist on blue (home Dark) and red (light clash) strip to reinforce our brand There can be different logos for different occasions or products but the club should try and ensure there is a quality and consistency with its approach its about branding and again I reckon Russell Howcroft probably knows more about this than most.

Dont mind the look of the team Backs settled and established can be more effective when the ball isnt constantly be driven in so Mids getting similar possession to last week is important Pedo just running around like Miller creating space and havoc would be a good start, (doesnt have to win the game off his boot because we have better support)with Fitz and Howe able to take the mark or Toump and Bail etc pickin up the crumbs. Even Watts may be able to play a little higher and impact the score board through that space. Picked em in tipping but really hope we are competitive for the whole game.

lots to agree with on the thread all sides of the story so yeah the survey results may be helpful but also needs the context of the survey. (Never hold an inquiry/run a survey unless you know the result is going to be what you want) Howcroft has some genuine understanding of these things so interested in his perspective. Spurs link was good but does operate in a different volume market which may impact on what is possible. AFL control is to some extent to benefit from volume issues. Orica green edge have link with clothing co (Croft I think ) and so there are obvious synergies with discrete manufacturers who may want to target a specific demographic. These are just some of the product identification required in marketing strategies The graphic design element also needs to consider how it reproduces Ie it may look good on a website in multi colours but the palette may not survive reproduction on a watch face or cup. I have many Demon items acquired over the years and most have been pretty ordinary. I have seen other AFL clubs with the same ordinary products so we are not alone and maybe there is a tiered market that can be reached by the club. Good luck with your communications. I did alert them to the Emu brand as potential sponsors(Ugg Boots and Clothing)who were launching on the international stage and even had a red and blue racing car team but never got a reply. There could have been product specifically supplied and an entree into other clubs as well.Would have been happy with "we approached them and they said that while the colours were sympathetic we did not want to be identified with a single Melbourne AFL club" but no response so would imagine that your ideas would fall into the, "Thanks but we are concentrating on other issues first" basket

Flew with Southern some years ago as the only western passengers on a near empty plane . The staff were same as any air lines and the outcomes the same we took off, got the peanuts and food tray, landed, "thank you for flying" etc I read a business report last week which in commenting on Quantas position stated that most overseas airlines were doing well, making profit, managing cost etc. The Chinese market is growing although in a controlled economy. They may be anticipating a gap in the Aussie market if Quantas continues its current strategies. The sponsorship will provide exposure for them at minimal cost and could develop if the team and their market continues to grow. "Up Up and Away"

I think I said it clearly some months ago and I hope that we have identified the remedy "Its the coach"

I would love to be there but small business demand and distance are too insurmountable enjoyed reading of exploits last year and wish you all a great day Go Dees

i Reckon they all have appeal but for different reasons I hope that Roos recognises that different opponents will have game styles that will require a different ruck approach to suit the style of play needed to beat that opponent. Some teams will need a strength in the contested tap out in a close contested game. Other games will benefit with a short burst running option. Some games will need an addition to the defence who can take a mark against smaller opponents and redirect play with a handball to a moving player. Some games will need a ruck player who can be used to bolster the forward line providing an option for a dominant mid field who can then just bomb it high and forward Its the value of having a good squad, you can vary the parts while keeping them all in good condition.

NAB Challenge 1 - Richmond v Melbourne
dpositive replied to Bedraggled Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Enjoyed the discussion about the sliding and appreciate the difficulty for the umpire in deciding intent and purpose. More disturbed that this incident seems to have started from Cross being pushed in the back and this ignored. I have stated for years that we do not get frees for above the head or in the back very often while giving them away often. I suggested we get umpire advice to ensure it is not a technique issue and have also pondered wether it is related to the colour or style of our jumper. Perhaps we could initiate a jumper made from one of those new age fabrics which show heat spots. Hands in back could then be quite obviously seen and assist umpires in their interpretation. -

How will the gameplan evolve with a forward line?
dpositive replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
"Balme was very stiff". "Clearly, a man ahead of his times." Not so Sure He had some great players and great opportunities may even have had a great game plan but I can recall his reactionary tactics or non tactics so many times when there was no coaching response to an obvious problem. I recall particularly one day at Princes park when Neitz was at FF and the opposition (I recalll West Coast but not sure if that possible ) was just streaming through CHB time after time The total crowd including embarrassed opposition supporters were calling out for Neitz to go to CHB and make a more respectable game while Balmey sat in the coaches box with his head in his hands not even looking. It was a sad and sorry day when some of us knew that his time was limited. -
Yeah good points DC The only response I can give" why should the gov work with indonesia to have special processing centres?" is because what we have done so far doesn't seem to work all that well. There is no incentive for Indonesia to stop the people they dont want either and they know that they can flick them on They are not the destination of preference. I suppose the only solution I have stated previously, to process people on shore, is that we should be able to do it better being a more advanced and concerned nation. We then might be able to figure out a better way to stop the people coming at the source. I saw a program on the migration into Britain who are also an end destination for many migrants through Europe, they all wanted a better life for their kids and better education. Maybe by improving our processing and administration, educating migrants and returning them to their original country we might slow down the whole damn process. And Yes I think that is the premise of the UN processes. I guess the despots and dictators are winning. Unfortunately there are many innocent bystanders caught in the crossfires. This could be a new job for the about to be unemployed workers of our Automotive and manufacturing industries. I suppose we could be developing this new industry and this could be the master stroke of the Abbott government, but they seem unlikely to tell us.

"Yet the ABC seems obsessed with - and hostile to - the Coalition’s successful policies, which have stopped the boats and the drownings. It seems to take offence on Indonesia’s behalf and gives massive coverage to any grievance or claim of cruelty." Not sure they are any more than I am If the boats have stopped Why are we spending money on drones or lifeboats or naval personnel crossing into Indonesian territory? If there are no drownings thank goodness but do we really know when the Minister and his operatives are not telling us. If any injury occurred as the naval boat and the migrant vessel collided and a migrant grabbed the exhaust pipe to get balance they might well blame the navy for their injury, its all hypothesis but we dont know. I know. I will stop thinking because the minister in a minority party has a mandate to do what ever he likes. Thank goodness the ABC tries to find things out and reports them, its a little difficult when the Minister wont supply facts to support his obligatory trust in his staff, perhaps he needs to re visit the Children overboard or Godwin Grech episodes of the Howard govt in order to see that not all department advice is correct. Perhaps if he released the information as Cassidy gave him an opportunity to do we would be more overjoyed with the action.

I'm old enough to remember when Melbourne invented the decoy full forward role. And I'm not calling Big Bob fat but I reckon he kicked a heap of goals at all levels But with Pedersen when the opposition stop being "decoyed" it is time for the coach and team to use him Is he good enough? I don't know he may be against some opponents, but I reckon the coach will find out and use him Didnt Roos and Lynch alternate decoy position with Whelan?
-
hope we keep playing him in the forward line in the NAB rounds to see if he can consistently make a presence. Creating space is important, but a different strategy is needed against other teams. He must still be able to provide good one on one contests and win his own ball. Who was he matched on against Richmond? . IE was it their number 1,2,3,or 4 defender? Who was it he was taking off the play?

Haven't heard of the Chaos Theory obviously.

It is getting difficult to contain this thread but I am beginning to disagree with the title. Abbott is not an embarrassment more an irrelevancy. If his genuine call on closing the gap is as as quoted as serious as stopping the boats, does this mean it will now be subject to operational secrecy and we will no longer hear of what happens on any matters involving indigenous affairs? His comments on economics are being disregarded as investors line up to take over the reported $130 billion assets that the government will give away so we can build some roads. While the government finances another royal commission into union activities, financial advisers are given free rein to exploit their influence. The government will cut red tape, green tape and ABC recording tape to ensure there is no impediment to the pursuit of their policies. Fortunately the previous government passed so much legislation that can now be concentrated on to be removed they do not have to have any positive polices to pursue. Any announcements made verbally can be ignored as Abbott has said himself until they are seen in writing and then they can be interpreted only as he understands them. I am waiting Joe's budget in the hope that somewhere along the line the economic resurgence that they indicated will begin . I know that the previous government left us in such a poor position that our economy was the envy of the rest of the world who saw that our assets and economic strategies were sufficient to pay a public debt which was minor figure compared to themselves and private investors were eager to continue to invest in a country where they could exploit our structures to their own advantage if only they could get the government to cease intervening and making them responsible for their actions Every thing is now coming together nicely, we just need to ensure that our labour market is populated with people grateful to work with conditions that match the labourers of Asia while our defence forces are built up to secure us from external and internal threats that we will manufacture to justify that build up. Meanwhile our miners will continue to export our natural resources ensuring they make enough profit to satisfy their investors who will now be eagerley awaiting the sale of more assets which will be given away. How long can we withstand this farce? The above is not considered rational or correct but neither are the actions of my government could just be irrelevant.

Being neither a Green nor Labour member and in fact supporter of neither of their total policies.I am not asking for the government to reveal its secrets. And certainly don't want the safety of Australian officials jeopardised. I understand that some information might be necessary to be witheld to undertake secure operations. However the acknowledgement that Australian officials are processing at sea ( a quicker and more effective process) and that this has resulted in X number of boats turned back would probably do more to disuade further migrants. I dont see this as being affected by the media cycle or How Q&A would impact. If the policy / practice taken by my government is working then I would like to know that. If it is breaching any laws or accepted conditions I would also like to know that. I do give a damn about all the rest of it and especially worry when public servants believe that they can do whatever they like without reference to or scrutiny from the public.
