  1. In DDs defence I dont think he bought in the political comment, partisan or not. "Martin Flanagan comes across as a genuine human being, someone who's company one could enjoy in almost any situation. As a writer he is almost as good as his brother Richard ( that's high praise from me) and a squillion times better than Andrew Bolt." His comment was about the writing and while I am uncertain of the quantitative value I tend to agree with him as I do with the comments of others. as this was a thread about an article written by Flanagan I reckon it was the appropriate place for this comment to be made.
  2. both good signs. Pedos training and your restraint. I was told when we recruited him,by a North supporter mate who attends all matches, that we had certainly got the better of the deal and that Pedo had heaps of potential. My mate was very disappointed with both players development but still felt that Pedo was capable of more. He will also be watching for any improvement under Roos as he felt Neeld was limited in his ability.
  3. Thanks for this comprehensive and well supported argument WJIt is great that someone can present some facts that go beyond the editorial offerings of the standard journalist presentations. That is not a criticism of the journalists or the editors they often have the facts but are almost required to present them in a biased or interpreted fashion. They are usually not able to present comprehensive and complex arguments unless it is a feature story that requires huge amounts of time and effort to ensure there is no legal infractions. With the test moving to a close you may have time to disclose more interesting opinion.
  4. Dont mind the disemboweling if it is directed at anyone or any thing outside the club But we are all dee supporters here and should therefore have our abberrent disclosures tempered with the knowledge that we too have endured the extremes that that support has provided. We deserve some consideration for having the courage to put up any opinion given the disdain we have visited upon us by our alignment with the Dees. When we have success we are of course toffy private school 4 wheel drive ski snobs and we probably cheated when we fail it was due to the fact that as above we are also weak spoilt and soft We are a source of enjoyment as we can be mocked under all circumstances We can only draw solace from the fact that we are among others who have the same unfortunate fate Oh [censored] getting a bit morbidly philosophical here begin the disemboweling Happy days
  5. thanks for this thread it does disclose the extremes of issues and did provide some informative discussion. While there is obviously a gulf between peoples perceptions as in all evaluations the solution is usually somewhere in the centre. It was enjoyable to see the comments put with little personal bashing and more argument directed at the detail, but even better was the acknowledgement that opinions while divergent were accepted as just that and goodwill was expressed apparently genuinely Hope this spirit continues on Dland with the added bonus of discussing how we treat success.
  6. I couldnt express it any better Well done and thanks Robbie. May we also have plenty more fantastic discussions next year.
  7. Great work Biff Agree with everything you say here and that doesnt happen a lot
  8. Thanks all for comments I dont mind the ocaissonal slip in reporting through personal opinion of observation usually balanced out by other reporters. It is just great to hear that the intensity seems to be improved that the squad seems pretty well balanced that the coach/es seem focused and there seems to be improvement all round. It is only training and we have had optimistic reports before so a little bit of scepticism and criticism even if personal is fine Keep up the good work How many sessions left before Xmas break and when do they return????
  9. I think your right WJ could have been a burst of testosterone trying to make something happen ....dont know that i would be too harsh on him for that will wait and see how focused he is today.
  10. not so much funny as unfortunate. He hasnt had success but has kept the pressure on with his pace. Still it is a team game and there are many components to team success as we well know. Today is another day and will prove how critical yesterday was.
  11. Not so much funny as unfortunate. He hasnt bowled with success but has still kept the pressure on today is another day. But it is a team game and there are many components to success as we know.
  12. OK Jara just coz you have some very sound points that require a deeper analysis doesnt mean you have to stop. Although maybe youd better for your own sanity. I agree with everything you say and you have already preserved a bit of mine See you at the gates of the funny farm. When do the Dees play the Essendones???? And you didnt even mention any supplements flow on plan through Mr Thomson which could explain the success of the cats, who knows what drugs were available at high altitude ?what exactly is high altitude training?, whats in those lollies the hawks have at half time? oh and any other practices that teams above us have followed while we wallowed in woeful performance management. Ooopps starting to rave now time for my medication
  13. Keep em in the heat and chasing leather and then put them out to face the pace They may wilt under the heat of a sustained mitchattack Today will be the critical day of the series
  14. WOW great pics It may be just me but ,at last some muscle definition right through the squad Even the coaches and some of the young kids seem better defined than previous years maybe the exercise regime of the last two seasons is beginning to bear fruit.
  15. Thanks BB wasnt in my thesauras
  16. Just for reference, whats a snark?
  17. The Honest Politician by local author G J Wallace available on the net. a great read with so many familiar issues despite the contradiction of the title.Obviously fiction>
  18. Thanks Roger for posting and Tasmin for providing this report These last couple of reports have been great Roger so thanks for sourcing them and passing them on It doesnt seem to matter who originates these bigfooty reports they are very thorough and add to the knowledge base of all other posters Congratulations and thanks to all who contribute Cant get enough of them
  19. I would like to see a "new" game plan not a repeat of "boundary hugging" or "corridoor" or "paddock" or "Sydney" or "Cats" or "hawks" But something that works with the components we have against the teams we are facing and their plan So yes an attacking plan and a defensive plan. I think we can base it on an improved midfield an improved attack and a proven defensive line With rotations in the midfield being an accepted strategy we can also rotate our forwards with a mixmaster plan that means our forwards and mids constantly move to space and create space providing options with Clarke Hogan Dawes Howe Fitzpatrick all mobile and dynamic forwards Watts,Toumpas, Tyson all precise deliverers and some grunt Jones Viney Cross getting the ball out to them we can have a revolutionary new plan that will confuse others and provide the dawn of a new generation of ......ooppsss could be getting carried away now Hope Roosy has the answer
  20. Really need that LIKE button here or maybe even better Great post Robbie
  21. I have been asking for this since Neil Balme's time at the club
  22. I cant restrict it to 3 players I reckon 1 improved coaching 2 improved attitude 3 improved strategies will see all players improve their capacity and output this year. We will improve more than all other clubs we will improve enough to challenge all teams
  23. One of the most under rated bands of the time Drury himself with a medical condition cant remember what it was was really extraordinary He took punk rock into rap years before the term had been invented. His many classic songs were littered with complex poetic structures about ordinary topics but with a sharp sociological insight I was equally impressed by and still am a fan of Tom Waites who has similar basics with his eclectic descriptive phrases.I always thought Waites lyrics were to music as Salvatore Dali was to art. Both men Drury and Waites had an ability to attract and inspire excellent musicians to produce outstanding music to accompany their apparently limited vocal range.
