  1. I think you're on to something here GTB contracts on base level for all including Jones with performance bonus based on this years requirement to get him to resign for 3 yearsand past performance.to balance of salary cap. This allows us to recognise his considerable value to the club but signals other players that they must perform to get a larger salary than base. If they do perform and we make progress next contract with Jones we may agree that we cant afford him or he may agree that he has been well rewarded financially and will be better rewarded with a flag.
  2. Ta da! Is certainly most important. HopeRoos has it from the start of training
  3. I didn't and don't have too much concern with drafting. It's a bit of a lottery obviously and outcomes are dependent upon development and opportunity. I am pleased with whoever puts on a Melbourne jumper as they are ours. But it would be an excellent opportunity to allow our dland selectors nominate and keep this as a historical thread for future reference That is no comment no alternative opinion just everyone who wants to participate to select their choices once this retained and used as reference if necessary in future discussion Can such a closed thread be created by the magicians who provide this site?
  4. Thanks DrG I haven't kept up to date with work cover changes but it certainly was the case in the past and certainly not sure of what comp laws (if any) footy players are bound by. I am happy to accept your points as it helps simplify the difficult issues that need to be considered to get the best outcome for the club and player
  5. I agree with you hard to legislate and go further impossible to legislate The intent is the issue and the remedy is an apology and perhaps some mutual learning I am sorry I offended you, I did not mean to, but as you have explained why you were offended I will try not to repeat my offence
  6. I think they both have upside Dawes was double or tripled teamed so many times and delivery was so poor that any Melbourne forward was always under too much pressure to really gauge their ability I will be watching to see how Roos creates a more established forward structure, perhaps Hogan, Dawes, Howe, Fitzy, Gawn, rotating through key positions with a blend of runners and small sat their feet being fed better delivery from an improved attacking midfield with Watts delivery skills Yes they all need to improve but I think they all can because I don't think they played to their potential last year Get em on the track and get em used to some hard intense competition
  7. I reckon the difficulty is intent and reaction If an innocent throw away line not meant with any serious intent causes offence then recognise that and apologise. Both parties can then learn from each other and the boundaries of relations can be improved.
  8. Another consideration is workers comp based Any reoccurrence of an injury illness even at a new employer reverts to the original claim MFC would need a complete clearance as returning to the afl with another club could bring on recurrence particularly if confronted by many of the opinions likely to come from this forum MFC have handled the situation well so far and I trust that will continue
  9. Will be interesting to hear what Mitch has to say The conjecture from reports and manager action do not seem positive for Mitch or the club It would however seem that if the medical advice is the reason I would be seeking second third and specialist opinion before making any further comments If the club has no control over these events or recourse there are indeed real problems for the club
  10. Gosh you can tell a lot from a look in the eyes Oh wait your talking about the.......
  11. Perhaps this could be a player salary component issue. As we are required to pay our players the same list amount (salary cap) as other clubs when setting the salary we apply a fitness level same as other clubs players on that level . If you cant sprint at the same level you pay for a sprint coach out of your salary Same system for other skills ie same salary level as key forward for Geelong or pay for your own kicking coach. This might provide some incentive to improve and at least reduce the cost to the club and its supporters
  12. What a sorry admission it would be to get rid of him It would be an admission that we dont know how to get the best from the best We have not and are not maximising him Its not all his fault there ere other aspects of our game and our team which need to be adressed I just hope Roos has got the answers.
  13. I'm in Beechworth but ability to attend is limited But good idea and plenty of dees in the area
  14. I recall a comment of Len Thompson then a Collingwood player at the hairdresser in Collingwood who said that if Collingwood were beaten and he hadn't played well he would be spat on by Collingwood supporters who saw him in the street until the next match Made you play pretty well he said
  15. it might sound silly but desperate times call for desperate measures. If I were Roos and not sleeping because of the performance of the players Ib be ringing them up and telling to meet me at the club rooms coz they shouldnt be sleeping either. Id then go on a long slow walk into the cold dark night and tell them few stories about the past and a team that I played for that folded. Id tell them of the many great players of that club who still have difficulty accepting the success of the renewed club located interstate but if they want to participate in that sort of a scenario they can identify it now. Id tell them of a team I went to that was absolute crap but who banded together to create their own place in history Time to put up Id ask them what is wrong? why cant they play the football they train for? what do they need to have confidence in themselves? and then I would start adressing the answers to those questions. I would insist that they play for and with each other to restore their own worth and the worth of the team I would try every bloody technique I know plus ask the missus for a few If I had to hypnotise them I would. This is perhaps the most significant time in the history of this club. Next year will be absolutely critical if we do not perform yes I think it is that important and it is the coach
  16. Well J Mac if it has been done and the players are not delivering the coaches job is to make them pay for their ignoring (wont) or teach them (cant) and perhaps have agame plan and a team plan that takes into account that their team mate is standing still. etc its the coaches job As I said I do have faith in Roos and I still reckon he can get these players to perform. He just hasnt found out how yet but I am sure he is trying everything coz his reputation is also on the line
  17. Dawes always seems to have 3 players on him when he leads. Melbourne player floats the ball somewhere in his direction so it is easily spoiled by defenders loose melbourne players are nowhere near the contest and run alongside their opponents who get the ball that has been knocked down Meanwhile Watts has presented three times to a space and been ignored by teammates who take so much time delivering the ball forward the opposition are able to man up and set up. Dawes needs Howe behind him and jkh in front of him Watts can deliver it to him
  18. I said of Neeld "it's the coach" I still maintain that and will watch now how Roos gets these players to perform I believe he is a more experienced coach than Neeld and has obviously a successful record of having players achieve premierships The magic combinations to do this are unknown to me but he has done it before and I hope he can do it again No coach ever has the luxury of getting a squad of players all better than their peers. It is the coaches job to fashion what he has got or can get and use those resources to get the best result. If today was not the best that the coach requires he can address it how he wants. This season is dusted . The real test is next season and the coach will again carry the can. Until then the faith of supporters is surely tested by the performance of this team. If they do not inspire us supporters to support the coach and the players they may well not have the future they believe is ahead of them. I would reckon the coach might put this to them? While Roos himself has seen the demise of his original club Fitzroy and I think bailed out as it went downtown improve himself and other individual members benefitted much was lost. That loss was insignificant against any potential loss of this club. The players must be made aware of the individual and collective implications of their actions. It is the coaches job to do this and I have hope and faith that Roos can do that
  19. Remember the old information continuum Data is not information. Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom May help your analysis
  20. I always thought the Melbourne Player suspended for an attempted trip when the following week we had a player deliberately tripped not given a free was an indicator We couldn't even trip properly
  21. Thanks KC A depressing job well done again
  22. Would have liked chip on roughie Let him know that everyone will see this as salary level test A good performance as a defender will add to his worth which we might want to match A poor performance against the benchmark forward would diminish his salary Too late Too little value on the forward line Howe to forward line as the swap Did I just hear we have out scored hawks so far this final quarter
  23. Save that till it really matters
  24. Oh and I don't think I mentioned the intellect of roos denying that our defeats were anything other than a confusing aberration beyond comprehension From the man who instructed a Sydney player to miss one for the greater good Expect an improved display next week and do we really need a win or a loss.??? It's a brave new world with your delightful activities to distract us THANKS
