  1. It's interesting...the rumour/inside gos has been it's a groin. ...but if true there would seem little advantage in keeping it secret, it would be doubtful that he would play & no one to target. Although it may keep the dogs guessing & having to plan even though he mightn't play. So may make sense. However if it were a shoulder problem, or maybe a facial injury I could understand not telegraphing that to opponents. Let's just hope he plays...

Collingwood still need to get some currency. I would be working on Maynard...
  3. Yes, I think they're trying this approach in Myanmar and a number of other countries. Russia is a pretty keen advocate. Even in the US, if you're not one of the elite forget a run for Prez...
  4. This is part of the point I was making 'jnr'.... I don't think the solution is as simple as reducing the interchange though. As 'Macca' often says there are often unintended consequences of any rule change.
  5. Rubbish...it is in the rules of the game, dangerous or not they are the rules and they are not being policed. I haven't seen anywhere in the rule book that says you can tackle high so long as it's not dangerous, you can trip so longs as it's not dangerous...you can push an opponent in the back or jump into his back so long as it's not dangerous. If you don't tackle between the knees and the neck it's a free kick. If you jump on top of a player on the ground or push in the back it's a free kick. If you trip a player it's a free kick. It happens in virtually every gang tackle now but is very rarely paid. I'm not talking touchy frees, but how often do you see the player on the ground with one opponent holding him and another holding him in a virtual headlock. That can't keep going on.
  6. I probably played at a similar time 'Macca', the game was different then. There wasn't the congestion around the ball and everyone pretty much played positional football. I think it was more due to the thinking of the time, holding position and the fitness levels of the players. You just didn't have the fitness to run the whole ground plus you had no interchange for rotations, just a 19th and 20th man... Also there wasn't as much emphasis on tackling. I remember introducing proper tackling practice into our club probably late 80's early 90's using some intel from the local NRL people to develop method and drills. Hafey was doing this in Sydney. Rather than taking away the prior I would rather see correct disposal policed better...if you get nabbed and have no prior, if the ball drops out then I would pay the free kick. I would also get rid of that stupid idea of having to make an effort, it looks so stupid watching players punching the ball with no real intention of moving it on. Another thing I would look at is making gang tackling illegal. Only one player can tackle...pretty much every gang tackle has an illegal aspect to it. Someone is high around the neck or head, too low grabbing the legs or jumping in the opponents back. Either get rid of it or start really policing the tackle and instead of rewarding it pay the right decisions.
  7. It's fun to watch other clubs go through this. Hawks next.
  8. Sorry 'Macca'...didn't mean to distort what you were saying but wanted to make the point re the coaches. Interesting that Blight just said similar on SEN, don't listen to what they say. My opinion on the prior opportunity thing was expressed in an earlier post where I thought that it goes hand in hand with a legal tackle. We seem to have moved away from the idea of a legal tackle and now players can tackle high, low and in the back. Particularly with a gang tackle. I don't think so...he certainly didn't agree with Clarkson when he came out with similar to Hardwick last year.
  9. I'm still cynical of Hardwick's motives...be interesting to hear Beveridge's take. I reckon he might differ, it's all about what benefits their team. Never listen to a coach spruiking ideas for the good of the game.
  10. Using U.S banks as a measure of trust and assurance is hardly a source of comfort.
  11. The other part of this is CORRECT/LEGAL tackle. I need to shout this as it's so frustrating. It's ok for Hardwick to talk about back in his day, but back in his day you didn't get away with the high tackles and riding in the back in the gang tackles of today.
  12. A Friday night special...one of the great lyricists joined by one of the great improvisors. A magic mix... @Macca @hardtack @Rob Mac...... @demonstone @bingers @Earl Hood @grazman
  13. What's their equivalent of the snow 'Goffy'? Are they all off to Daylesford for a weekend at the spa? Maybe a nice winery tour? Sounds very Hawthorn to me.
  14. A lot are taking this casually. I'm not, he's a huge out for us. If any of the other 3 went down I wouldn't be concerned, we can cover them. Not Jackson though...
  15. Whenever I see Tom Browne I cringe...might be a nice bloke to his mates but comes across as a total DH... I'm sure there were 100's of other people in the club at the same time...maybe he should just name them all. Or maybe this is even better...Max Gawn wasn't seen at yo yo club on Saturday night, no suggestion he knows anything about the incident or did anything wrong.
  16. No, Storm are staying at AAMI. Their junior development and women's teams are being based at Broadmeadows.
  17. 2 rising star nominations the last couple of weeks and sitting on top of the ladder. That's promising 'dazzle'...
  18. Not me 'Jaded'...I didn't like them or go even back in the ????
  19. Makes a few people who posted to drop him on the changes thread look a bit silly to say the least... Great first game back.
  20. I didn't know Coxy is a Dee... He filled in with LRB for Derek Pellicci (original drummer) when he had an accident. David Briggs, the guitar player is another Demon.
  21. Maybe for the players own good it's time to ban oil on the arms... You can see May's arm slip up on the oil. How often do we see an oiled up Selwood slip a tackle, he puts gallons of that stuff on before and during a game. For someone who doesn't have a rock hard scone like him it's dangerous letting the tackle slip up to the neck or higher. Duty of care may well see oil go, at least on the arms and shoulders.
  22. It was May... I'm surprised he didn't get at least 4 weeks for that. I mean he got a week in preseason for looking at someone the wrong way.
  23. Yes, but if I had the choice of winning the centre clearances or winning on the scoreboard I know which one I would prefer.
  24. Disposal wasn't great but his defensive positioning is excellent... The Swans couldn't move the ball cleanly from defence & Angus plays a big role in that. Compare it to how North moved it in the first half of last week when Gus wasn't there & you might get the answer as to why he stays.
  25. I'm happy we're moving up the ladder and not just for the obvious reason... If you watch the North Collingwood game...is that 17th v 18th? They must get the worst of the umpires. The standard of umpiring is appalling. To think that's what we had to put up with week in, week out. It's still bad, but touch wood, not that bad.
