Yes, I think application of the current rules would be enough to fix gang tackling. Handball...some of the things that pass for handball these days are a joke. What would Teddy Whitten be thinking, his old flick pass was more legit than some of what we see today.

I don't mind 16 a side, but we're all guessing as to what the outcomes would be. I think zones similar to TAC cup might be a better solution...at least it's been trialed even though only at junior level. ...it brings back some degree of positional football. Who knows we might even see another 'Plugger'.... As to the rules, enforce the ones we have...I've thought about the idea of banning the gang tackling but even this could be enforced better. How many times do we see the 2nd man in go high in the tackle or scrag in other illegal means. It seems if the first tackle is close too legit the 2nd can do whatever he likes. I do like the idea of banning gang tackles though, one ball carrier, one tackler

I really don't understand why they don't just bite the bullet on this one and make significant changes to the interchange cap. I guess they're getting there bit by bit...nearly like drawing teeth.
  4. Interesting... I think outside of football Buckley probably has more empathy. ...but inside the buble of the football club Malthouse has him well covered. He's very highly regarded by his players at WC and C/Wood. Winning premierships doesn't hurt but he was able to get the best out of players Buckley in his wisdom decided to move on. Malthouse comes across as an arrogant a... hole but I think he knows how to work with different player personalities and get the best from them. It appears, and the record seems to show, that Buckley can't.

    Very impressive...
  6. Collingwood, St Kilda and Geelong will struggle...
  7. Yep, some interesting rumours...if true then the Tiges boys should get a refund. ...but they (C/Wood) handled the outcome poorly in how they let him go. Also their coach made a mockery of the hub...not exactly setting a good example. ...but the big one is the contempt they have shown their supporter group. I guess the arrogance must come from the top, I can't quite think who it might be?????

I think the one thing we miss here is that the Tommy Mac contract screwed us. If we had of moved Tommy on I would have given us a higher rating. It may still come back to haunt us with contracts to be signed and inability to bring players into the club. The immediate impact is it most probably kept us out of the Treloar trade. We can't afford to be paying around 700k for depth. So whilst we can sit on the high horse and laugh at C/Wood they have fixed their cap issue, they moved on who they wanted to move on. The way they did it may come back and bite them and it should but in the end we still have a player we needed to move on. Of course you can't create a market if it's not there and no one was interested in Tommy so we did the best with the hand we held...
  9. Watched him being interviewed on Fox...he looked like a dead man walking. Tipping he's next out the door at C/wood. Was hung out to dry. Will be scapegoated to protect the bigger egos.

This is obviously not right 'norm'...North are letting go of a better tall forward in Brown. Why would they then want to bring in an inferior model in Tommy. That's definitely not a win win for them and a pretty dumb move I would think. Just makes no sense at all...

That looks close to about right... Their willingness to part with $100k for next season was always a joke. It's going to cost them big time.

Typical in football circles is to copy what has been done elsewhere. The flavour of the month theory. There is very little innovative thinking in football unfortunately. Coaching appointments mirror this... I don't know anything about Noble but because it worked for Fagan doesn't mean it will for North & Noble. Given I wish every other club in the competition to fall apart...let me say I hope this doesn't work.

How Geelong does it??? Well they haven't since 2011 and don't look like it any time soon.

They've paid overs on this... Anyway, I don't know why they held out when they could have done this day one. Dumb all round.

If North wanted to do that then they would have kept Brown rather than bring in Tommy.

The main reason is that we need a training base that gives us pretty much 12 moths a year access. Given cricket has the ground for between 4 to 6 months then it doesn't add up despite the emotional attachment...

Exactly, if someone wants to take on the other 800k a year they have rocks in their heads...

This happens at every football club from AFL to local footy. It's just human nature. As much as a coach says it doesn't, and he might truly believe it. Malthouse even admitted it a few years back. Basically said one rule didn't fit all...he's right. The other side of this is you will always have disaffected or just plain out of form players at every club and they will always find something, someone to blame. Often not themselves.

Fair call 'Bob'...it is, and definitely not the right thing to say.

They've picked up a very good coach.
  25. rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Actually it's not where I stand 'Bob'...it's where the competition sees him now. Yep, I have been a critic since 2019. I reckon he lost all form (he didn't recover from the 2018 prelim) for whatever reason and we played him when he should have spent time at Casey. They lost the opportunity in 2019 to send a message, see if he could regain form, confidence....rest him if he was injured...whatever. Why I keep going over it now is that some seem to think he has trade value when he has next to none. There isn't a queue of clubs wanting his services. We accuse others of overrating their players but in this case some of the trade scenarios are ridiculous. They (fans on this site) seem to think some magic trade will happen or that a club needs him...we have been crying out for another key forward and we went and got someone else...it shows us and the rest of the completion where we value him. Why would we think another club, say GWS as was suggested would need him to replace Cameron...if he could then we should hold him because we need that player probably more than them. We are probably at the head of the line for a club that needed him. We don't think he's got it to come back into form or we are not willing to risk it. We are in a similar position to Collingwood with Dawes, they knew he was done, they needed a KPF yet moved him on...he was gone. I hope someone does take him on as it will relieve some salary cap stress but I don't know that there is anyone as dumb as we were when we took on Dawes. If we have to hold him then I hope he can really turn it around next season and stick it up me and anyone else that doubted him. It would be great to see.... Tommy has been a great servant and a credit to himself to carve out the career he has but his time may be up.
