  1. posted this a few weeks ago but GC are a serious threat in 2015.
  2. I think this is a problem that someone else mentioned. A good coach is across the art as well as the science of football, Neeld and Craig seem a bit too enamoured with the science. Surveys and all are great but in the end you take that in have a look at the situation in front of you and make a decision based on what you think works not some number crunching tells you.
  3. Not much so far, struggling to keep up.
  4. Pretty good summation 'master', wouldn't be surprised to see Puopolo pick up Terlich playing his defensive role on just about our only run and carry player out of the back half.
  5. Yeah, it was a strange one. He didn't play at Casey either to force his way back in. Tough game to come back in. Would like to see Kent get full game time and not sub.
  6. OK, good answer but it does point to problems we still seem to be having with our senior players. It made no sense for us to be playing so many behind the ball when we are supposed to be teaching a game structure. It seems that so many still don't know when to stay or go, the game is not natural to them.
  7. I've been like you hot and cold on the stay or go line and don't really see the point of a caretaker coach however I have never been happy with how the club has been run and think Jackson is a real plus for the club. I would still like to see changes at the top. I get the culture thing that 'Sat' was talking about earlier but I think they may have pushed this to far in the short term, players and supporters still need some wins to keep the faith and I find the adherence to a defensive mindset is hurting the team. Let's hope a few wins are just around the corner ...for all the media bleating I can't see Jackson pushing Neeld out until he has the FD the way he wants it and then he will want to see how he performs in that environment, see if he is up to the job. A couple of massive loses will make things hard though.
  8. Thanks for the info 'Sat' it is appreciated but my follow up question on this would be why did he go away from the structures and put so many players behind the ball, the players surely didn't do this themselves. I would think he needs to stick fast with the structures too, this is one of the things that really frustrated me with the game last Sunday.
  9. Looks to be a pre existing deal according to the article. mmmmmm There is likely to be a bit of movement at the club shortly and it looks like CC is trying to shore up his position with a bit of PR work.
  10. I would add Tapscott to the list as pure defence he needs to get ball otherwise he is a waste. Kent unlikely to play which is a pity because he can at least hold a tackle and who knows where Watts or Howe will line up. Watts at half back and Howe loose man in defence again. I can't see Birchall being dragged away from the play by MacDonald, better players have tried and failed. If we put players back in defence again then the Hawks will manufacture whoever they want loose and have a field day off HB. So for me we will have 3 defensive forwards, 2 key forwards (a 5 man forward line) and a loose man in defence. This is not how I would set up but it is what seems likely. It's no wonder we have been getting around 100 less possessions than the opposition. We're so focussed on defensive acts we forget about getting the ball.
  11. I'm not so sure about the acumen, in fact I think Garry is better placed as a light entertainer on the footy show than any serious analysis. He seems to be a very reactive thinker to me and that's why we ended up with Neeld.
  12. I would like to see that, at a minimum Taggert should be in the middle. On another subject it appears that MacDonald is set to be a defensive forward this week. So what are all those other forwards who don't get the ball doing. Here's a novel idea how about we play someone as an attacking forward, if we get the ball it's a bit harder for our opponent to have it. The ultimate defence.
  13. dees189227, on 30 May 2013 - 19:46, said: Yep...Mitchell, Hodge and Sewell are absolute lighting and skinny kids so we don't need any grunt this week we need to combat the pace of one of the AFL's slowest midfields. Great midfield non the less. Unfortunately I think you are right 'Nasher', but he shares this problem with Tappy and a few others who seem to have an aversion to getting the ball. Then again this might be the game plan.
  14. The odds would be well in our favour I would think. Like your thinking 'PaulRB', and that would really set the cat among....
  15. I think that's what is happening 'rpfc', a lot hinges on the role of boss of the FD. I'm not sure if that's something that Craig would want to take on or even if he has the skill set to do it. 2 phys ed guys (Craig & Misson) is one to many so that would leave either senior assistant or senior coach. Also will or would Craig want to stay on with Neeld gone? It's not a position Viney could take with Jack at the club, the conflict of negotiating his contract would not sit well for a start. The key candidates for FD boss aside from Craig would be from outside the club at the moment so it makes it harder to appoint someone now but things can change mid season as we've recently seen with Hawthorn. I've thought Peter Schwab would be an excellent choice maybe even Donald McDonald who is stepping away from North with his son coming to the club. If we were looking to poach someone else that may have to wait until the end of the season. Grant Thomas would be an interesting choice but I don't think AD would tick that one off.
  16. Yep, I think Neeld said the right things and Lyon and Schwab salivated at the prospect. One is not there now and the other has deserted him in the media. A senior coach wouldn't have worn what Neeld has and that's why we didn't get one.
  17. I've thrown his name there as caretaker a few weeks back, at arms length from the current coach may be a breath of fresh air. No time in the system goes against him as full-time in the job.
  18. The stats can be misleading, Geelong's conversion to goal from centre clearances is way above average and this was also the case with WC last season. WC this season with NikNat out suffered in this area. Anyone who thinks Geelong are deliberately losing clearances is well off the mark, it's just when they do they have a plan in place and it's a good well executed plan. Look at the game as a whole and then see where they are scoring from and it will be a mix.
  19. So far so good.
  20. Thanks 'Nasher', am on Telstra as well.
  21. We can't afford not to 'bing'.
  22. I'm just happy he's finally gone, should never have been back in the first place.
  23. Doesn't mean you don't ask the question and doesn't make it a bad idea... How many of us think Lyon should have pursued the other Lyon, and think him derelict in his duty to select a good coach in not following up.
  24. You're probably right about clutching at straws but he hasn't alway been as slow as the last 2 seasons. I don't agree with your assessment of his first few seasons, he was a definite plus for me and played some good footy but has seriously stalled now.
