Interesting thought on the bikes...it's got to be something, maybe it is the bikes.

$5 million black hole for Demons in next 2 years.
rjay replied to 13thFlagIsComing's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would have brought the leadership on field that this club sadly lacks. -
A midfield without a good defence or forward line gives you GWS...we need balance, I know our midfield is a problem but you don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Been like it a couple of days now.

Tell me what Jalland and McLardy know about football, they were on the last sub committee. Let the experts recommend and the board rubber stamp. They will know when they are told.

No board members thanks.

When the board sack Neeld they should hand in their own resignations
rjay replied to Cheap Seats's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm thinking your right 'Go the Biff'. I just wish he had given the coach a dvd, "We're just taking it one week at a time"... words and wisdom from the Allan Jeans press conferences. -

I think he will be making the decisions and the board will be a rubber stamp. I certainly hope they stay as well out of the process as is possible as they have proven themselves incompetent to make any decision that will see the club move forward. -
Clarkson says Dees never approached him about coaching

That's the one, a simple yes or no. -

No he wouldn't, and he also wouldn't answer a straight question on Neeld's tenure. Very strange man for one not interested in politics. -

It's not about imploding, they are now a lame duck board and we also have a lame duck coach. I trust Jackson will make the right moves and in quick sequence. -

Not now, many have preached restraint on this board from the 2011 Geelong debacle on and the club has not gone and made big changes, steady as you go, Bailey in 2011 and Schwab in 2013. Well that hasn't added to any stability so lets move now in steady but quick steps and make the changes over the next month and get on with it. Keeping the status quo is now way to destabilising to continue down that path. Too much fiddling while Rome is burning, get on with it. -

An enormous influence in that he and his board set the direction of the club and chose to hire Neeld, extend Bailey's and Schwab's contracts for a start. If nobody knows how to fix it, well last person out please turn off the lights. I don't believe anyone has all the answers but we need someone with the energy and respect in the football and wider community to start the process. I hope Jackson can start that process but he will need a very experienced FD boss in place and a President with the drive to make things happen. The coach needs clean air to go about his business, unfortunately for Neeld he walked into a basket case and was ill equipped to fix it. I don't think Neeld is the sole problem but his approach to sorting out what was already a problem has effectively made it worse. An experienced coach may have had half a chance but it was always going to be difficult with the board and administration and bad blood in the club. -
He said it would be 1.5 but that's not the point. Hopefully all can now see the folly of Schwab and where the club really is on a financial level, everything is tied to performance and it was only a matter of time before we started heading into the red. The whole Lyon, Schwab thing has been a total failure both on ground and off.

...and there's the problem. If he doesn't know what to do then get someone who does. -
Sign Jesse Hogan up for 5 years (Suns and Jack Martin)
rjay replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is no way I would sign on if I were him in the current situation, it's just not going to happen. If the club can get back on track next year and show some signs for the future then it would be a good option for both to extend his contract. Now, it would be a stupid move for both parties. The current football mob are going to be too busy packing their own desks. -

I would say we are effectively under AFL administration now anyway and it's for the best as it's also for the best that Don says nothing and bow out as soon as is reasonable. -
Winning is a bit underrated 'Bob'.

As 'bomber' Thompson said last week. Change the culture, learn to run both ways, but you have to get some wins on the board along the way.

Yep ...and leave big Fitz out until after the bye or at least until the QB game. He doesn't need to cop Hawthorn and get dropped again. Let him play a good run of games and give him a chance to show what he's got. They also have to make a choice between Gawn and Jamar. Big Max is not a forward he's a ruck man, one or the other boys. Fitz is the forward relief ruck until Clark gets back, Watts is the 2nd tall forward and when Clark gets back he is probably the number one ruck looking to next year with Dawes and Hogan taking key forwards, develop Fitz as the forward ruck.
-
He's playing out of position, for some reason we have small/medium forwards who don't move much past the forward 50 arc. All our small forwards are supposed to be defensive forwards, I remember a time when forwards used to kick goals. Wait a minute, that was Friday night with McGlinn, Tappy needs to do the same, work his a...off. I just don't know what he is being instructed to do but he's not doing a lot of anything at the moment. For Tapscott to develop he needs to run up the ground a bit more, give him a run in the middle. To me he is a real disappointment at the moment and hasn't deserved his position in the senior side.
-
'Doc', i think the problem is not necessarily the effort but how that effort is applied and that is Neeld's fault. There is no logical sense in the way they are playing at the moment where they leave the middle of the ground open for the opposition to do as they please. We seem to have the bulk of our players in either of the 50 mtr arcs with no one pushing up from either side, we can blame a poor midfield but it is team pressure we lack. He can't have it both ways either about being in a rebuild and developing players then throwing all structure out the window and pushing everyone back into defence to save the scoreline. Having Howe sit as a loose man on the FB line when all their attack is coming from HB where we have now given them a loose man also makes no sense. We were lucky today, Freo are not a heavy scoring team. I really fear for next week against the Hawks.

I don't think we should get in a caretaker coach unless we can convince someone like Leigh Mathews to come in and instill some pride, run and stability into the team until the new coach comes in, we can't go any further than the bye with Neeld now. If we could get the right coach to start now then we should make that appointment mid season and get on with it, coaches like Williams and Eade probably have a let out clause to coach in their contracts. If no it needs to be someone with some respect in the football community short term. We can't afford Neeld, nor can we afford to have a caretaker from within the current FD.

Seems to play better from back.

The pressure will be on Buckley this year, particularly if they don't make final 4. The Malthouse decision will not be far from the mind of the supporters and media. Watters is getting some heat as is Voss. Hadwick will cop a lot more this year, I think his match day coaching is poor but he does have good personal relationships with the media so the blow torch is not turned up. Won't be too long though. Neeld, well..no, this chart shows nothing. We were supposed to be a team on the rise and we are going nowhere.
