The ultimate 'white flag', well apart from handing in the keys. It's the job of the CEO, FD boss and coach along with a president who has an absolute passion for the club to drive this thing. Surely there is a Melbourne person out there who has some smarts and a passion to see this club succeed. Paid positions are different...most Geelong people didn't have a problem with Bomber or Scott as coaches, nor a problem with an Hawthorn supporter ex Melbourne player, WC boss as CEO but it was driven by Frank Coster's passion for Geelong and his football club. I know we've copped some big beatings over the last few years but too many of you are punch drunk, you've lost your marbles if you want Jeff as president.

Clarkson gave him a big rap, said he was the best coach not coaching now or words to that effect. Didn't Parkin and Walls have 2 shots at Carlton? I guess stranger things have happened.

I trust that Jackson has things in hand, we need to let things work through at the right pace. Many have had a go at Neeld for coming in all guns blazing without thought, well I'm happy Jackson is not doing this. I think he will make the moves he needs to make when he deems the time is right. Sorry David you will have to wait like the rest of us. It was knee jerk stuff led by mr Garry 'knee jerk' Lyon and his cronies on the board that caused a lot of this trouble in the first place. Let's do it right this time.
-
That is one of the things they must be held accountable for. If any of the current board are to remain then it's these questions that can't be avoided even if they come out and say, 'hey we got it wrong'. Not likely though is it.
-
Don't like the Freys either...the sooner they are out of the picture the better.
-
I the end he is gone and that is a good thing for the club going forward, and 'sat' as for the FD structure you are right Jackson didn't say the words it was stuffed but he did say it was not set up as he would like it, he felt the CEO was effectively head of the FD with 4 people reporting to him and that wasn't the way to do business. Someone put up a transcript of his half time talk and it's there for all to see but really it makes no difference, there will be changes and the first one will be head of the FD.

Nothing to do with anything, I didn't want CS at the club but would love to have Peter. Very different characters and different experiences.
-
This thinking also screwed us before.
-
The big one has already been made when CS got the flick. Let Jackson do his job, he is not jumping to Lyons call which got us in big trouble last time.

Now that's a 'Game of Thrones'. -
When Thompson was struggling one thing they did was put in a good football boss, Balme. It's the first part of our puzzle.
-
Agree totally with this.
-
I'm not pushing for Icke, it would be Peter Schwab for me but I'm pretty sure Jackson will have his own short list. My suggestion of Peter Schwab is more about the type of person we need in this role, someone who understands football, experienced administrator, has good connections at the AFL, experience with the media, from a successful club and highly regarded.
-
Anyone else think that Lyon was talking rubbish last night...he thinks the board is playing a dangerous game, "what happens if the club starts winning games" he says. Well good Gary, that's the whole idea.
-
It was always going to be move one when Jackson came out and said we needed some more experienced heads in the FD and around the club.

bean·pole [been-pohl] Show IPA noun 1. a tall pole for a bean plant to climb on. 2. Informal. a tall, lanky person.
-
Agree 'master', that's what I would be doing too.
-
Pedersen not tall enough, Sellar will take the role...Davis should get an opportunity over the next few weeks, with Frawley out. Even with Frawley in I think Sellar would have been called up for Cloke, this is the type of role he was brought to the club to fill.
-
Peter Schwab would be the one for me if we could get him but Icke would be a good candidate, Donald McDonald might be another one.
-
2+2 doesn't equal 10, because Knights was appointed when Jackson was at Essendon doesn't mean he is in the running at Melbourne.
-
Nothing will happen until the boss of the FD is appointed, that's no1 on Jacksons agenda. No inside info no rumours or anything just looking from the outside in I think this is what is going to happen.

To big an ask 'master', he will give it everything but way too undersized for the mountain. It will have to be Sellar (or contaminated prawns), at least he had a good game for Casey on the weekend. -
Good posts from 'pm' & 'macca'...differing points of view but still well put. I agree with a lot 'macca' has said in the past about the coaching side of things and I think any supporter will wonder why a coach does certain things, it's these arguments that help make the game. I also appreciate that Neeld is playing a long game in a world that demands the short game. I appreciate what he is trying to do and the courage he has to keep at it under enormous pressure. I just feel at times that he is too focussed and inflexible, and that is he is pushing through his program at any cost. Sometimes you need to reflect and understand the whole of the story not just one part. I will pick you up on one thing though 'pm', Dawes coming across can't really be seen as an endorsement of Neeld as a coach. There is a vast difference between being an assistant and being the boss. I've told the story before of the Saints players I met telling me how Alves was a great assistant but had a brain/personality transplant when he got the main job and turned into a real ..... Having said that Dawes has really backed him up during the press conferences and on the ground and that is a positive. I do think Neeld could take a lesson from Dawes in how to front the media but it isn't really his style, in Neeld's words 'that's ok'. He would be better off taking the Jeans approach and say very little, he does bury himself at times.
-
I was not sure if we made the right move with Dawes, I still think we got conned into paying overs but that said the quality of 2 out of his 3 games for us has been good. A Collingwood supporter mate (yes I do have mates who support them) said when we got Dawes that he thought they had made a big mistake, he may well be right. All the hype about Lynch and he is giving them donuts, Dawes is proving a good leader on and off the field.

I think this is true and if the board have ticked off on this strategy then they have to back him or have a very good reason if they don't. I think this is where Jackson comes into the equation, as a fresh set of eyes. Is the strategy sound, can it be sustained or will the business as a whole suffer to much.
