  1. ...and he can get it, run fast and kick it well 'steve', that's got to be a good thing. We not only get May and Pruess but also Oliver with 2 new shoulders. I thought the odd tackle was slipping toward the end of the season.

I've seen this argument raised and I'm not so sure that it stands up. I just think after what Jessie has been through with the death of his father and his own brush with mortality that his mind will still be a bit scattered. When things like this happen trite statements like "it's only a game", "makes you think what really matters" etc...get trotted out and it's hard to think through clearly. You actually start to believe it. Missing the finals after what he has been through would have been shattering in itself, he's been around long enough to experience some of the hard times. Then he watches his mates out there playing and winning finals and he's not a part of it. Why wouldn't he want that experience? why wouldn't he want to stay? I don't think even he could really tell you that. He might not have a hunger for the game at the moment, he might never get it back. He certainly had that mean competitive streak early in his career. I don't see this move being about not having a voracious hunger for a flag, I don't think it proves anything. Anyway, enough of Jessie. He's not our player anymore and I hope we smash him and every other non MFC player/club....

All sounds good in theory but we would have had something like pick 16 this year and GC were not going to sell May for that. Collingwood would have loved May but they couldn't get into the game with a low first rounder. May would probably be at the Dogs now if we didn't have the Hogan pick to trade.

Not if he wants to be in Perth... All the could of's in the world won't make it different. Nothing to do with Mahoney and the job he's doing, made the most of the situation, stabilised things and set the team up for premiership success.
  5. “There’s only two scenarios: He’s either a very good actor, or he’s going to stay,” Scott told SEN’s Whateley.
  6. Mahoney doesn't seem like the type to waste his time on pointless games. We could have played harder at the trade table & had an unhappy Hogan with us next season. As you say winning a flag is hard, too hard to be carrying a kid who is going through a lot & doesn't want to be there. I'm not sure he is very clear on what he wants but that's for Ross to sort out now. As an aside, it's going to be interesting to see how Geelong go with Tim Kelly. They played it hard & the coach even called him out as being as a Scully. I have a feeling that it might all end in tears.
  7. I don't buy this line of argument...I've seen it posted by a few people on here and it just doesn't hold up. Whether Mahoney spoke the words or not the hand was sitting on the table for all to see. Even "Blind Freddie" could see that the Hogan & May deals were intertwined. You think Freo couldn't see it?
  8. We didn't sell the farm, we just brought our premiership aspirations a year closer...
  9. I don't understand how he wins... Made a big song and dance on Friday about pulling out of the Hogan deal and ended up paying what was offered on the Friday. Not much changed except for Bell doing a 180...
  10. Pretty much as I expected... Stirred things up a bit and now off into the sunset he goes... Bye 'RR', can't say it's been fun but it's been
  11. Please leave 'RR' on until at least the trade period has finished 'Demonland'. It's going to be priceless to see the reaction if he's proven wrong...
  12. I know I might not be living in the real world but I would hope Jesse has a bit more respect for our club than that. I don't know him but I don't think he would play that game and throw s.... in the face of the people who have stuck by him through some tough times. ...but you might know him well and this is the expected outcome.
  13. How did their bargain buy for O'Rourke work out? This is a pure punt...he played like a busted because he just might be one in football terms. The Hawks don't always get it right, add the other Garlett to the mix...they get plenty wrong and now are punting harder to stay in the race as the Cats have done recently.
  14. I totally understand your point 'steve', but..... Those picks can be traded, a single pick 5 for Hogan will be unders. A pick in the 20's got us Hibberd so it is of value. We can't just let Hogan go for pick 5 even if it gets us May. Forget KK, he can be picked up with another deal (late pick or future next year) and only muddies the waters in this discussion making us feel good about trading 5 for May. Hogan has a higher value and we should extract that. The difference could be us as a top 4 finisher never to quite make it or as a premiership team. Pick 5 and Langdon would be a good outcome or pick 5 and another pick we could use for another player.
  15. Sorry @joeboy 'EnterTheDragon' - Prolific but wasteful
  16. I think this has become a "Chinese Whisper'" 'old dee'.... My take was that Watson was trying to figure out why Freo had pulled out of the Jessie deal. He thought that maybe they were running scared after the Bennell trade, they were jumping at shadows. For those taking potshots at Watson (an easy target) I didn't hear him as saying Hogan was like Bennell at all, just that he couldn't understand why they wouldn't want to get Hogan over the line. Like many of us he is a bit perplexed at the way they have handled things.
  17. Just wondering if we've had a conversation with Davis... Seeing as GWS seem to be dumping players due to salary cap I'm sure we've at least had a chat. I rate Davis as the best real key defender in the game, doesn't get the love he deserves.
  18. He's got another 3 gears in him 'bub'... I think a few are underrating how good a 23yo who has missed a couple of years of footy will be. I know you don't like statistical comparisons but maybe an interesting maturity comparison is Jack Reiwoldt who was a petulant, sulking, selfish player at a similar age. We're not losing Jack Watts here, this is a serious talent. We need to be well compensated if he moves on.
  19. I don't understand why we don't just delist him... It's obvious on your reading that the kid can't play.
  20. Nice story 'GNF'. Up there with Little Red Riding Hood & a few other tall tales. Make it plausible by using North, they're throwing cash around like confetti. Problem is their offers are for free agents and out of contract players. Oliver is neither. Olivers vague connection to North is that they are an AFL team & he is an AFL player. It didn't make the media because it didn't happen. I have no doubt when Oliver's next contract is due he will get some very large to massive offers and we will need to take good care of him.
  21. It surprise me we haven't yet heard from even more dumbest, Hardie. This is right up his alley...
  22. I'm leaning towards that as well but if it doesn't happen so be it. I just think the off field stuff muddies the waters and all that talk is related to Freo withdrawing their bid whether you mentioned it or not. It's the only reason it's now being discussed. If I posted pretty reliable information I've had on a few clubs/players along with some high profile people well it's not going to happen. That's why I get annoyed with the innuendo, I mean I just added to it but truthfully what off field issues these days effect a players performance unless they are a total basket case and I don't think Jesse falls into this category. Langdon & Nixon are not worth quoting...
  23. If it's more than smoke and the reason Freo have withdrawn their offer it looks like Jesse stays and we make the most of the situation. No point talking about what's not going to happen now or next year. If it's a problem this year and that's what they're pointing to I can't see Jesse wanting to go there next year or at any time, they've burned him. Looks like we've got him and what ever the issue is we will need to sort out, if there is one.
  24. It does matter.. It particularly matters if you are going to use it to back up your argument. Their history is of getting a lot of things wrong, it goes to the veracity of what they are saying. They may well have been told but who told them? the taxi driver? Peter from Peterborough? I get your argument for moving Jesse on and picking up May. it's pretty solid. This sort of stuff as to why Fremantle baulked at the deal is just guesswork.
  25. Nixon, Langdon or 'Chook from Perth' hardly comprise the AFL community. One an outcast the other a big mouth with little of substance to say, just a peg above Brad Hardy who should just about be on cue to open his mouth again. I wouldn't give you "2 Bob" for the thoughts Nixon or Langdon. 'Chook' is a different story, a good poster with a record to match. ...but I'm not sure he was pointing his remarks at Jesse or certain people/culture within the Freo footy club. He was a bit cryptic as he should have been.
