The problem with Billy is that he's playing these good games for Casey as an inside player... He just doesn't get enough ball when he's outside, maybe he doesn't read it well enough from there.
-
Doesn't look like he's in a rut though...he's ok and doing enough to hold his spot in the side. As I say, just not the superstar everyone expects yet. When did Watts have a better (or pretty good) season as a young player by the way?
-
Petracca is not being gifted games, he's not in a rut...his stats hold up pretty well for someone who mainly plays half forward with the one exception. He could hit the scoreboard a bit more. His biggest problem is expectation... Everyone else's. He's expected to be a superstar and he's not, he may never be but he's still contributing pretty well in my mind and will get a lot better. Nothing is to be gained by playing him at Casey as he's not Sylvia or Watts mark 2. Get over it everyone.

A few things here... For a start the best form of forward pressure is hitting the scoreboard and we didn't convert enough of our inside 50's on Friday. Athletic, agile or whatever you like to call it, I think Weid has more composure at AFL level & better football smarts than Smith and that's really key to having the 3 talls work forward. I know you don't like it but there is no reason it can't work well. You are underselling the efforts of Hogan (5 tackles), Trac (4) & Melk (4) and the FD in addressing the previous lack of tackling pressure. Weid is also not afraid to lay a good tackle. I like how Smith has been able to compete in the ruck, it's a great effort for someone who has never really played the position. I think that Pedders has dropped off in this part of the game this season & it's part the reason he is at Casey. Pedders was a bit stiff coming up against Cox the other week though & I wonder how Smith would have handled him. Weid is the better ruck option to my mind & is smarter around the ball. The sooner we can settle him into the team the better we will be.

Without getting involved in some of the [censored]breast for tat arguments. Because Goodwin indicated he was happy with a lot of the other nights performance doesn't mean no changes this week. We did after all lose the game. A couple of things I noticed from hearing him on SEN the other morning were that we are a work in progress (long season) and that Bernie has had a couple of quiet games. Bernie may get a reprieve but it probably depends on the work in progress part and what they have in mind. For me Weid comes in to take that 2nd ruck/forward role from Smith who whilst working hard sometimes looks a bit lost. Do we roll the dice on Jeffy, we really do need him around goal. The conversion rate is evidence of that. I would like to see Petty get a run, the Lever mix is not settled yet and I think he is a better prospect than going back to Frost although Frosty might get the one more Trengove/Grimes shot at it if his form is good.

It was the rule of the week against the Pies 'S', seems to have calmed down a bit since. ...and why they continue to deny there is such a thing as rule of the week is beyond stupid. The evidence is there for all to see, we might be rusted on supporters but we're not that dumb.
-
...and that's been at Casey.
-
Zac was pretty good one on one, that's why Lyon kept playing him. Frost isn't...he's not good in the air and looses position against good KPP's. Then he doesn't read the play well enough to come off his man and effect the contest when required. If we're looking for someone to replace Lever then Petty needs to be developed. Frost isn't the answer. Maybe Pedders was played down back to see if he can hold the position. Worth a try...

Ok, I'll bite...I'm with' @stevethemanjordan ' on this. He has all the physical attributes but no footy IQ, poor decision making and disposal. That's what's holding him back. I can't see him making it at AFL level.

Viney - Give first option
-
Not just to an outnumber but we also didn't kick to advantage of our outnumbered 'P-man'.
-
The Brayshaw mark was the same as Wingards, should have been paid. Melk's shepherding decision was a disgrace. Yes Nichols is a ..... of an umpire. ...but we cost ourselves the game through poor delivery into the forward line. Umpires or not there was a 30+ point win there for the taking.
-
Hunts out injured and as for Garlett, there's a position there for him if he pulls the finger out at Casey tomorrow. Same for Weideman...
-
If he could just tidy up his kicking 'joeboy'... he lets himself down there.

"There had been suggestions over the weekend from former directors and powerbrokers that Jackson would quit his post immediately, but these were proven to be unfounded at Thursday’s morning tea." I find this a most interesting line from the article... These are the people that put us in our previous poor position and cause nothing but trouble. There they go again and yet again they are wrong...ego might not be a dirty word but for some I wish they would just shut it.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN O'CONNELL

Give him a scooter and a beard then he can do training reports... -
We'll smash em... Not much. ...but we'll still smash em...

The only similarity to Harvey is his size...Harvey was explosive, Spargo isn't. The jury is still out for me with Spargo, he's only a first year player. I get that. ...but does he have enough tricks? At his size, he needs them. My big concern at the moment is he is getting brushed aside way too easily, he really needs to work on his strength. That at least can be worked on. He has the footy IQ, so that's a big plus. Will he go on or will he be another JKH? Time will tell.
-
Makes the midfield battle crucial then 'what'...'Andrew' was easier...
-
Frost is not good one on one...he hasn't got the smarts to use his strength. He gets his positioning all a... up. ...and I think Dixon is a bit of a sheep in wolves clothing.
-
...the bye round, nearly as bad as preseason. It will be good to be back playing footy again on Friday.
-
I wouldn't be targeting Wallis 'Moon'... I think Tyson is a much better player/prospect and he's struggling to get a game. We need a bit of run & carry/class. Looking for someone to emerge like Yeo has at WC...this is the type of player we need. Who has the skillset but hasn't put it all together yet? Someone to really work with Oliver... The dogs have a kid Webb or Williams maybe another, can't remember who but looked to have the raw talent. I'm sure we like all clubs are on the lookout, that's why Langdon's name is popping up.
-
Yep, I get people expressing their opinions but I think they're not looking at the bigger picture. ...you can't judge him by a game like Friday night which was a glorified game of rugby in many respects. Nor can you go on the outside player reputation he's often tagged with as this year he's shown he can get his own ball. With the changes coming into the game next year, and they will come the game will open out a lot more and it will be imperative to have runners like Gaff. It's probably our biggest weakness. An open forward line is going to be great for us with Tommy Mac, Hogan and Weid, Oliver will be unstoppable around the ball but we still need class runners bringing the ball in.
-
No, it's a key factor in growth but there's a lot more to it than that. Get the wins but place yourself to take advantage of them, that's the way we will grow. North are a great example of a team who weren't able to translate on-field success to support and memberships.

During PJ's time the President and board have pretty much remained in the background. This year they have had to tick off on 3 big calls...selling off poker machine money, selecting a new CEO and developing a new home base. I'm sure many share my trepidation as previous boards/presidents don't imbue me with confidence but with these decisions best of 3 won't win. All 3 must be winners.
