  1. Below is a part of an email I received from a opp club recruiter on GWS passing on Toumpas and a couple of comments on the others. I heard separately that GWS tried to draft players that where already friends hoping on the fact that the friends will stick together and stay at GWS together. They drafted a lot of Vic kids. This may be some reason on why they passed on Toumpas and went O'Rourke and Plowman. Also Corr and Jaksch who they took later I know are good mates. "I and many others have no idea why GWS passed on Toumpas and went with O'Rourke. Toumpas is 10 times the footballer. We had Toumpas at 3 and O'Rourke at 8. Toumas is just all class in everything he does. Neat, balanced and composed. And a great kid to boot." Viney was the steal. Just what you needed. Hard as a cats head. I just hope he doesn't get injured to often the way he plays. Kind of a kamikaze Kirren Jack. As for Kent, Jones and Terlich they are much of the same. Hard at it footballers who have a dip. I'm not sure they are world beaters but at leastthey have the right attitude and desire to start with, which is what your Coach wants."
  2. I'll disagree, Geelongs game plan under Bomber was set around run and carry through the middle out of defence with the likes of Wojo, Mackie, Enright etc Backing themselves in and taking the game on, using there foot skills to hit up leading targets like Mooney. This is what Bailey IMO tired to emulate. problems was Melb didnt have the skills to execute it.
  3. Geelong won flags with run and carry. Everyone kicks long to a forward when they are in range.
  4. Swings and roundabouts James Magner - Jack Hannath Training with St Kilda drafted by melb Training with melb drafted by freo
  5. Nothing to do with societies law. Where you ever tested at your place of work?? The players agreed to be tested at work when 90% of the rest of the population dont.
  6. "I've got more information out of reading the back page of The Age than what I have talking to anyone here," he said. "I'm sure that information is spot on, so we'll just wait for the next article. "(Age reporter Caroline Wilson) knows more about it than I do, which is fine, that's her job. She knows more people in there than what I do."
  7. Interesting comments today from Neeld press conference when asked about the tanking investigation. Gave CW a bit of a slap.

  9. It was a section of a report on a future fund night with BP and TH after the 2009 draft. It was posted on the Future fund website which is no more and now part of "Mates of Melbourne " I believe. It was an attendees recollections of discussions from the night.
  10. Mleb knew something was up with Brock from about round 15. He was stalling with contract negotiations and was very stand offish. At the end of the season he was still out of contract and Carlton came knocking, they said they needed a player to protect Judd and that Melbourne had the players they were after. They inquired about Moloney, Jones and McLean, Dees knocked back both Moloney and Jones, but said – confidentially to Blues that only a very good offer would get them McLean as he was very much Melbourne. Stephen Icke said, what about pick 11. Harrington said he’d think about it, but that none of this was to be discussed with McLean. While all this was going on, McLean and his manager eventually met with Melbourne, Dees said thanks for meeting with us etc, Brock’s manager interjected and said Brock wants to say something – ‘I want out, I want to play for Carlton’. Dees said he was a required player and they wanted to keep, and that he should go away and think about it. They hadn’t heard anything for a while, and Swann met TH at Princes Park watching U/18’s game and said have you thought about the deal. TH said Dees were prepared to go through with the deal and shook his hand. Done deal.
  11. Why save a spot for a pre-season pick? Theres no need. If we want an uncontracted players we can just sign them as they become FA once delisted.
  12. In a high pressure, tight contested final who would you prefer, Griffen or Sewell. Wines all day
  13. Not sure on the length but the contract we offered him was less than the previous one which he wasn't happy about. Especially since he was leading B&F until he was moved forward. If the club really wanted to keep him they would of.
  14. Have heard that GWS are happy to wait for an A grade ruckman until they think they are ready to contest the premiership. At this time they will just go and get one form another club.
  15. Just read that there's no compo for mid first round pick, so sub 14 (end first round) for 26ish Its first-round pick; the next level is an end-of-first-round pick; the third category is a second-round choice; the fourth is an end-of-second-round pick, and the last bracket is a third-round pic. Even at worse if Beamer, Riv, (Bate?) where classified in the 5th bracket which is 3rd round picks, the three 3rd round picks would have to add up to a 2nd round pick. Another thing in melb favour is due to our 3rd bottom finish a 2nd round choice is only 3 picks off an end of first round choice
  16. Correct, Who would be disappointed if Beamer, Rivers and maybe even Bate compo adds up to a mid first rounder (pick 13) or even a first round (pick 5)?? Melb picks 3,4,13,14 or 3,4,5,13.
  17. All clubs do it Geelong just big note themselves, and I suppose they have a right to
  18. Its not what Jnr wanted its what was best for the club. Jnr as a great leader I would have hoped new this.
  19. The club didn't owe Jnr anything, they didn't kick him out. They gave him a chance when no one else would and decided to give another young kid a chance instead of Jnr just like when they gave Jnr his chance.
  20. Jnr and the club went into the season thinking that it would be his last, he started the season well and jnr started to have second thoughts then he did his hammy and he took 6 (from memory) weeks to get back. His form then was not as good as it was at the start of the year but he was still was having second thoughts. The club thought otherwise and stuck to the original discussions. Who knows if things would have been different if Bruce had of took the easy option earlier, the club may have kept Jnr. It was the right decision at the time and still is.
