  1. Crap. There wasn't a recruiter in the land that would have taken Wines over Toumpas at draft time. FACT
  2. Maybe thats all Gawn wanted to sign for. In 2 years time he would hope he could sign a much improved deal.
  3. The plan was to take the screws out at the end of the season, however they where casing problems so it was decided to take them out early.

  5. those 2 points are exactly my thoughts
  6. WTF are you on about. It is a short opinion from a recruiter from 4 years ago!!!! FMD
  7. and this is from a person email from a recruiter from another club Fitzpatrick???????? Not a fan. He has very good speed and agility for his size but his foot skills are shocking and he is lazy. His marking is hit and miss. He is getting over Chronic Fatigue as a 15yr old but he has been playing on that for the past 3 years. I haven't spoke to him but my bosses went to Sth Africa with him as part of the AIS U18 tour a few years back and they said he was the biggest whinger and complainer they had every heard. They also said he is one of the most arrogant kids they have ever met. They wouldn't have drafted him with 100 picks.
  8. Below is an extract from a rundown from a early future fund post draft night. Interesting reading now. Pick 34 – M.Gawn, very surprised he slipped, but it was no guarantee dees would take him. BP wanted a stay at home Key Forward (Fitzgerald), BP stated he doesn’t like recruiting rucks, and that they are relatively easy to trade for. He wanted Fitzgerald, the others wanted Gawn. So Gawn it was, he has put on 15kgs and 8cms this year. They are not sure if he has finished growing yet and are being very careful with him. He is returning from an ACL, and is part of the reason a player like Gawn slipped. Very agile for a big man and plays a bit like a ridiculously tall midfielder. Not a lot will be seen of him in 2010, but they have really big wraps on him, but will take a very cautious approach with Gawn. They also thought Fitzgerald was more likely to slip to pick 50, but they didn’t expect him to. Pick 50 – J.Fitzgerald, they see him as a stay at home full forward (as Dees believe they have enough lead up forwards), BP asked Alan McConnell which key position players he rated that he had been in charge of at the AIS, three names, Butcher, Griffiths and Fitzgerald were mentioned. He was asked again, who were most likely to succeed at AFL level, he said Butcher and Fitzgerald. The reason he slipped to 50 was due to him contracting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 1997, doctors generally say it takes 10 years to get over it, and Fitzgerald has not showed any signs of it since 2007 – 2 years clean. He has a very awkward kicking technique, in fact BP joked that the kicking coaches will have a heap of work to do with Fitzgerald, and his marking is not yet at AFL level. He has a good attack on the ball, and is very good below his knees and is agile. Aside from his height, he has elite speed, tested very well at the draft camp, in fact he was the quickest in repeat 20m sprints, and his 20m sprint was under 3 secs. Very, very quick, ie. good on a lead.

  10. Frawley hegded his bet with McDonald in front of him he started to move to the goal square for the long bomb to the vacant square, however the kicker went short and Frawley was left out of position.
  11. Correct. There wasn't a recruiter in the land that would have taken Wines over Toumpas. I know of one club that was gobsmaked that GWS didn't take him at 2 or 3. They thought JT was 10 times the player of Jonathan O'Rourke who GWS took at 2. Who knows, GWS passing over JT might just have all been part of the minidraft/Viney deal???
  12. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/dees-cupboard-is-not-completely-bare-20130617-2odk8.html For a more balanced and IMO correct read this form Emma Quale.
  13. I was told a month ago by the mother of an ex syd CAPT that they thought Roos would be coach of Melb next year. This former Syd player would make a great midfield coach under Roos Just sayin
  14. Dont rule out Clarkson as silly as it sounds. If Haw bomb out of the finals, buddy leaves he might think Ive taken this group as far as i can time for somebody else to have a go. I'll take the 5 year offer from melb now instead of coach the last year of my current contract and run the risk of not getting another one. Or he might win the flag with Haw and then think the same thing.
  15. Schwab for me as well. Watched him on Open Mike and thought straight away that if we are going to appoint somebody in a "Neil Balme" type position Schwab would be perfect with his experience as a player, coach and AFL employee.
  16. Jed Lamb - SYD small forward/mid? 3rd year on list and picked for only his 2nd game this weekend. Highly rated at draft time. Although if he was at Melb there would have been calls to delist him after 2 years due to him not getting a game!!!
  17. Should it really matter that we have wasted previous early picks in regard to the AFL giving us a PP at the end of the year. Surely if anyone is at the bottom for a sustained period it means they have wasted a few early picks up. How will anyone get one?
  18. Their wasn't a recruiter in the land that would have taken Wines over Toumpus. We made the correct call then and now.
  19. One person?? That is where you have it totally wrong. Its a team responsibility to pull the team together when things are starting to go awry. Do you think Lenny Hayes stands back and waits for Roo to do something or Mitchell or Hanneberry or pendles or bartel???? You dont need to be captain to show leadership or do things that can pull your team together when things are starting go one way. The only difference between Jones and the the two Jacks should be the jacks do a bit more off field media, promotions, sponsorship commitments etc
  20. Do you think putting a C next to Jones name will make him a better leader than he currently is. Can you not be a leader without having a C next to your name. Will Jones be a better leader being capt? Is Grimes and JT becoming better leader by having the captaincy?
  21. Can only be coming from Dank himself. He's being taken down is and is taking as many with him as he can.
